College uniforms (getting annoying)

Yes, I am a traditionalist and prefer traditional uniforms, however what's making this trend even more annoying is never knowing whom you are watching (until you look at the scoreboard).

I couldn't even tell that was Ole Miss and Texas Tech .. until I saw the score, then I get confused who is who because these teams change uniforms almost every week. Please make it stop!

Yeah, remember when it was just Oregon. Totally hate it too. I completely hate the NFL color rush crap as well.

Certain schools should never go that road. UT being one of them. Penn st, bama etc

One of the things I unequivocally hate about Kingsbury's tenure at Texas Tech is that the uniforms are different literally every week. And that's the dictionary definition of literally: twelve games, twelve different uniforms.

Imagine if they were doing this in the NFL, where the Texans looked totally different every week. There something to be said about the identity of a team. Not sure about you, however when I was a kid I became a fan of teams just because I dug their look/uniforms. For example when I was a kid, I totally loved the Bucs orange and the Bucco Bruce logo. The Bucs became my other favorite team (besides the Oilers), even though I lived in Houston and had never been to Florida and had no idea where Tampa Bay was.

As for the Oilers, growing up with the home team powder blue, oil derrick, Earl Campbell, etc was special. I do root for the Texans now, but it's not the same as what I felt for the Oilers ... and it's all because of the look. If the Texans would have assumed the name and same uniform it would be the same.

I hate it too. I do admit that I like Oregon's uniforms and how they change them. I can always tell who Oregon is so it isn't bothersome, but they could cut theirs down to like 6. Any way, teams should keep their uniforms for a long time and establish tradition.

Funny, the established programs that win consistently have maintained their look for eons. Maybe there is something to the traditional look and the tradition of winning.

Hate to say this......the Horns are about the only team that should've changed their look and uniforms at some point. Their look is drab and their play is even worse. Time for a big overhaul in look and play if they want to compete.

Play would be enough. No need to change the look if their style of play gets updated. I hate to see the college football powers join the ranks of the other schools that need to pitch gimmicks to drum up interest because long-term success is just not on the table. Chrome helmets and everybody wearing black is no substitute for bowl game victories and being in the running for the title every year. UT needs to get back to that and not dilute their brand by throwing on a bunch of junk that has nothing to do with who they are.

The uniform stupidity at the college level should stop but it won't because people today seem to need that kind of constant change to hold their attention It gives them a (false) sense that a particular uniform or color combination is in some way special. It isn't. It's just another reason to try and sell somebody a jersey, cap, or t-shirt. Just another way to somehow brand each individual game as an event. The NFL has already started screwing up their product with it and I don't expect it to stop in my lifetime. What the hell is a "Liberty White Out Game" or a "Color Rush Uniform" anyway? Hell even the original "alternate" is now just one of many and it is made less by that. I like the Battle Red uniforms. Always have and since we don't have a throwback to go back to they give us something that's "ours".

The problem isn't having one it's having too many. When every game on your schedule has some kind of theme or branding tacked onto it trying to make it special then that just means none of them are. Every single Texans home game has a theme with its own corporate sponsor (and presumably so do all the road games). Four of them have their own special uniform variations. It's retarded.

Let me chime in. In Saturday's game against Rice, the Coogs wore white helmets with the silver Cougar logo. It was impossible to even see the logo. They looked like Penn State helmets.

Yep. Coming soon: Halftime Branding Uniform Changes! Season opener first half brought to you by Planet Ford and features the new Texans Purple-Fusion tie-dye uniforms! As a Horns fan I totally agree. I've thought this for years. They don't need drastic changes, but just a few subtle ones.

The Horns basic white on white with the orange TEXAS and the orange horn on the helmet is one of the best looks in all of college football.

I like Penn State's look too and they've been the same forever.

Any team that has boring jerseys to the point where I can't even read the names on the back of the jersey automatically becomes a team I won't root for. Drives me nuts

I love it...except for Maryland....that black & yellow checkerboard crap they have ruins pretty much all their uni combos.

All that money being made, I don't understand why the University of Houston can't receive an invite into the Big 12 Conference.

I’ve been wanting this forever. I would love to see U of H be a legit powerhouse again. Unfortunately they don’t have a chance until they get into a major conference. They would have been the best replacement for A&M.

There are too many schools that do not want UH in the Big12 because it will hurt their recruiting footprint in Houston.

I don't believe UH will ever be in the Big 12. I do believe though that the Big 12 will eventually implode.

I would initiate the revival of the Southwest Super 16 Conference and pull every school from the BIG 12 except UT. UT's TV deal makes them a perfect candidate to go "Independent".

The new conference would have to go big and target schools that have scattered to the winds. TV deal has to be in place before this happens.

Now, I don't dis-include UT in the process b/c I'm not a Longhorn fan but more along the lines that they've done their best to block UH from joining the BIG12. They have no real desire to share the TV contract or potential recruits in the City of Houston.

I'm thinking A&M might go conference shopping if they can't establish any inroads of success within the SEC hierarchy. They, like every major university have to win and win big to keep the Alumni / Supports happy. Even with Jimbo, the Aggies may not crack the upper echelon.

I'd look at these schools:

Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St
Tulsa
Baylor
Texas Tech
Houston
SMU
TCU
Kansas
Kansas St
Colorado
Colorado St
West Virginia
BYU
Notre Dame
South Florida

I will look at additional schools but this would be nice group to start chatting with.

UT was actually the only Big XII school to publicly show support for UH getting into the conference. The President at UT made multiple statements that he would like to see UH get into the Big XII.

The loudest opposition to UH has been from the schools outside of the state. They feel like the state of Texas has too much representation (40%) in the conference and will not vote for another Texas school. It takes eight votes to add a school to the conference and six of the ten schools are outside of Texas.

I get that UT is arrogant and it rubs people the wrong way and makes them an easy target, but it's amazing how many people just say things without doing any research whatsoever.

I could've sworn I had heard differently but I'm happy with the correction. Put UT back on the list. That could knock Iowa State out in my book.

16 teams....4-4 Team Divisions or 2-8 Team Divisions?

You're an A&M guy right? I'm sure you heard differently. But just because you heard something doesn't mean it's true.

Just read that article that bah007 posted. I would prefer to see Houston in the Big XII, however wouldn't be opposed to seeing USF and UCF added, just because they are in my backyard and it would open up Florida for recruiting.

I do not trust the leadership of UT.

Their "support" for UH being added to the Big 12, I think, was part of their attempt to quiet the opposition UH had with UT's attempt to create a campus in Houston.

Honestly, this is a subject that really chaps my hide b/c there's never been any real good reason come out about why UH shouldn't be in the conference. The few things we've heard over and over about adding UH in is "there would be too many Texas schools" and "what does UH bring to the conference?" & those just don't sound like excuses that would come from UT. I hear those kinds of things & I think "well what the hell does Iowa State or KSU bring?" Neither damn sure ain't winning **** & as far as i know academically they're not known for anything special. Furthermore it hadn't just been Texas schools controlling the uneven revenue split in the conference that was/has been going on for years. OU & Nebraska were both in lock step with UT and TAMU in that regard.

So in my mind It's really never been UT...Its been the other schools. UT is just the focal point b/c they're the big fish in the pond.
