Coach/Carr/Draft/Season Timing

It seems to me that we may have some issues of timing to factor in to the decisions that need to be made on this team. Specifically, when Kubiak would be able to be hired (and start evaluating our situation) and when Carr's option has to be excercised.

If the Broncos win next week, Kubiak wouldn't be able to devote a lot of time to the Texans until after the Superbowl. Carr's option has to be done before the end of the Superbowl, so it is likely that Kubiak will not have a lot of input as to what to do with Carr.

So what if, like Casserly & McNair say, the decision on who to draft rests solely on the new HC? Basically, if that decision were to be to draft Vince, Kubiak may not be able to get what he wants if Carr is signed to the 3 year extension, because of the 3 year option cap hit.

I find it odd that they keep saying the next head coach will be deciding who we draft with these timelines.

Pure Speculation.

If the Broncos go to the Superbowl, Kubiak will break down film during the by-week. There is a two week lead-in to the Superbowl. Will this put us a little behind? Sure, but it is nothing drastic.

Additionally, Kubiak is already informally going about assembling a coaching staff.

Isn't the Super Bowl the first week of February and contracts can't be touched until March 3rd?

I doubt Kubiak spends time evaluating our players when he's still under contract with the Broncos and going into the biggest game of the year. Kubiak has already said he thinks Carr can be a good NFL QB and McNair and Casserly have already said either way that they are going to resign Carr, so if Denver makes the Super Bowl and Kubiak can't come over here until after then I guess the decision to keep Carr becomes a little easier.

Teams have until March 1st to resign the players on their team before they become unrestricted free agents (at least the players whose contracts are expiring, after that any team can make them an offer. I don't know exactly when the deadline on Carr's extension is, but I believe it is before the March 1st deadline because it was written into his contract that way.

Normally I try to inject as much verifiable fact into my posts as possible.

This time, I am going to speculate. Why would Kubiak want Vince Young, is the question? Think about the QB's he has been successful with: Elway, Plummer, and ... who else? Griese?

Kubiak has had great success this year with Plummer, and Carr is of a very similar build, arm, footspeed, intangibles, etc. I would be remiss if I compared Carr to the likes of Elway, but Carr is also comparable to John in the type of gameplan he fits in.

Kubiak has never coached the "running" QB (I know, I know, Vince Young is a "pass-first" shotgun spread QB, get off it), and you have to see the similarites between Carr and his past successful QB's.

The real question is, why would he want Vince?

I'm a Bush fan Jerek but you can honestly make the same case the other way. Why would he want Reggie Bush when all he's had (and been succesful with) are no name running backs taken in the later rounds.

This really sucks but the only thing that makes sense (based on assumptions about Kubiak) would be a "keep Carr, improve his game and trade down scenario" with our picks.

Who was the last amazing star the Bronco's got with top picks? For that matter when was the last time the Bronco's drafted in the top 15??

We have NO idea what Kubiak wants in the draft, and I can tell you right now no one on this board is really going to know.

Anyways... back to the original post. I think this is a very important subject and I would hope most Houston fans will cheer for the Steelers next weekend.

Houston needs to have some idea about what they are doing this year and the longer we have to wait on the key ingredient (Coach Kube) the more unprepared we are gonna be. I'm sure most of you can share in frustration, I can't stand listening to Casserly buy time anymore! :)

To Upgrade the most important position on the team some players have had four years to prove they are not a product Weak Conference play and have not done that.:stirpot:

More like to bring in a player that will be a 2-3 year project before you can even decide if he is an upgrade over our current QB or not, doesn't sound like that is the best option for the team.
