Clowney - DE or OLB?

Power against resistance will likely no longer be kind to Watts core.

So realistically Doc, if JJ goes "balls out," like he used to play, how long do you think he has to play before he has another break? Also, if he did play with his "foot off the gas," so to speak, is it likely he would be able to avoid injury to his back and extent his career any longer, or is it all just a matter of he could injure it at anytime regardless of how hard he plays?

Again, I can't and won't even attempt to predict what all the different scenarios exist for the extent of his career path...........or those things he can do to try to preserve his health............or those things he can do to try to avoid injury. Those of you who have ever had a significant structural low back problem (which Watt certainly qualifies for after 2 microdiscectomies, not to even mention his other core problems) know that it doesn't take brutal football contact or contortionist moves to touch off a major debilitating event..................a simple gentle bend, a simple exit from a bed, a simple jar going down stairs, a sneeze...........and sometimes, a WTF happened, I don't even know what I did to end up crippled again. All I can tell you is that especially in a tall massive player like Watt, whether he plays DE or OLB, each down he plays will be its own little crap shoot.

Damn! I had a feeling you'd say something like that. So I guess he'll be very lucky if he plays 1 more year without injuring his back let alone 2 or 3 years. Bummer!

Pride and pain tolerance (aided by modern medicine?) cometh before the fall?

Pete Carroll cites Jadeveon Clowney as the reason the Seahawks couldn’t run the ball
Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is known primarily as a pass rusher, but the Seahawks found out the hard way on Sunday that Clowney can be a handful in the run game as well.

Although quarterback Russell Wilson ran the ball effectively, when Wilson handed off the Seahawks couldn’t get anything going at all: Seattle finished with 17 carries for just three yards on Wilson’s handoffs. Asked on 710 ESPN what the problem was, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks struggled to block Clowney.

“We whiffed on 90. We really didn’t handle him like we thought we would. He was on fire,” Carroll said.

Carroll said the Seahawks hoped they could catch Clowney off balance because sometimes great pass rushers over-pursue and get beaten in the run game, but it didn’t work out that way.

“We thought we would catch him and we didn’t. So it was a really hard day,” Carroll said.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...the-reason-the-seahawks-couldnt-run-the-ball/

Although Clowney did not make the immediate impact some expected as the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, he has developed into one of the most impressive defensive players in the NFL. He turned out to be even better than the Seahawks were expecting

Wilson early on saw that he did not need a run game to allow his play action to repeatedly be effective.
So you are saying that Clowney was practically neutralized by the Seahawks because they just chose other offensive strategies which didn't require much emphasis on their rushing game ?
I dunno I was out of state Sunday visiting family and they had no TV reception for the Texans game so I'm looking forward to seeing my recording this week.

Maybe im the one who's F'ed up but it seems everyone pegged Clowney as a pass rusher primarily and that's odd. From SCar to now he has been a fuckin problem to offenses in the run game and has only flashed as an above average pass rusher.

In fact, I remember people were saying that he could develop into a consistent pass rusher given enough time.

JDC came into the league one of the better run stoppers. He's always been stout at the point of attack. To me it's always been his pass rush moves that needed work. He always got by on sheer talent in that department.

This is exactly it. It's also why the Myles Garrett - JDC comparisons never made sense to me this last draft. Garrett is a pure pass-rusher who needs to work on playing against the run. JDC was a great run defender but his pass rushing got hype because of his uber-athleticism.
