CJ Stroud year 2

Lance Z had something to say interesting this morning.

Remember when there were reports that a draftee got into it with a coach with the Texans.

Lance said it was Stroud and Slowik. Lance said that Stroud is so X’s and O’s and ingrained into knowing football that he won’t give people the time of day if they don’t know their stuff. Stroud didn’t work as much with his OC at OSU because and really only worked with Day because of this or so that was said.

There is a press conference this week where Stroud goes on to praise Slowik about how he is smart guy and how it’s good working with him.

So that blow up is water under the bridge and it seems Slowik passes the football IQ test. And of course your hearing it from a guy hearing it from a guy who wasn’t there. Good news all the way around.

The real story here is if Stroud has his own S2 test that he gives out to people? How do you pass or fail? Do you use a number 2 pencil or an Xbox controller? Can you take the test multiple times to improve your score?

I think we'll see some regression with Stroud as teams get more film on him and pick up on his tendencies. It'll be up to Slo to make different play calls when that starts to happen.
The thing with Stroud is that you can't find any real tendency.

For the first three games, the Next Gen Stats Charts showed that he went to the right more often (but that's the same tendency of right-handed passer.

But then in game 4, that number is split right down the middle.
That's rare for such QB.

And he's not a one-read QB.

He's been able to find the receiver downfield such that he doesn't have to resort to the dump off.

He's not throwing the ball short of the stick often on third down either.

He's handling the blitz better.

I mean; there's nothing a DC can game plan against him as a QB.

You know this happens in all workplaces when the less skilled or dummer is trying to teach the more skilled or smarter, it can be frustrating for sure. If Stroud really does know more or his tough questions or not being answered, well color me impressed. This kid may really love studying the game and has been doing it for years probably. Very interesting for sure.

"draftee got into it with a coach" ?
Who knows what that might mean ? Could be practically anything ?
Word is CJ is taking a liking to the Houston cuisine so maybe he and the OC had a spirited discussion about which is the top TexMex restaurant in town, or maybe it was disagreement about whether to have Sushi or Chinese for lunch one day ?

Slowik said the Lakers’ championship didn’t count during covid and Stroud got upset.

We now know where you are in this discussion! :kitten: :chef:

I think this draft cycle proved Lance isn't as plugged in to the Texans as we thought; he kept talking about Demeco taking Tyree at 2 and taking whatever QB at 12(at least I think that was what he was saying)

Panthers owe their 1st rd pick to Chicago so no shot at either of those guys
It was so funny hearing all these experts say that Stroud walked into the worst situation out of the 3 teams and that we would be giving ARZ the opportunity for MHjr and Caleb to join forces and now (I know it's been 4 games) but the Panthers shouldn't have gone all in on Young and now they will be giving a top 5 pick to Chicago which would allow Chicago to select a better QB in a better deeper draft class of QBs

Context clues are your friend.

Purdy also has an all-star cast of talented players around him and a solid OL in front of him.

I dont necessarily think the 49ers OL is better than the Texans OL when healthy.

I'm hoping the weapons can be upgraded this offseason. Something like

WR's Nabers/Collins/Tank/Metchie/Woods

TE's Sanders/Schultz/Quittoriano

RB's Pierce/McClellan/Shipley/ cheap vet FA RB.

All of this can feasibly be done.

Another guy I like in the Deebo role is Mitchell from UT. Give Stroud these type guys and you will really see Stroud shine. You cant cover them all and these type weapons really open up the run game.

I didn't get this at all.

He mentioned Wilson (man he's been bad) but WA was always Ryans #1 guy. In fact WA said the Texans were the only org to bring him in for a pre draft visit.

I’m not making a point, just an observation. These are the same qualifiers used to discount Stroud’s performance at Ohio State.
Not at all,

I expect Ryans, Caserio to put weapons around Stroud next off-season that will be comparable to the 49ers and what they have around Purdy. They're already off to a good start with Collins and Dell. Add Nabers and Sanders who are comparable to Aiyuk and Kittle and you're off and running. Of course there's not another McCaffrey out there, but guys like Shipley and McClellan can run good pass routes and are good in pass pro as well as catching the ball. Plus you won't have to use a high draft pick to get them.

The future is bright. Ryans and Slowik know what they're doing and Caserio is on the same page with them. This is what I've been hoping for since the teams inception. Everybody on the same page.

Look at you, coming around on the rookie QB! Welcome to the future.

The thing with Stroud is that you can't find any real tendency.

My favorite quote from overdosing on folks breaking down his film is "Stroud's no. 1 receiver is the open man".

I thought that really said a lot, especially when it is backed up by numbers.

I'm so stoked as a Texans fan to have a HC and QB that we can believe in.

Buzz about the Houston Texans potentially throwing a curveball at the top of the draft won't quiet down after NFL.com's Lance Zierlein had them taking Texas Tech edge Tyree Wilson with the No. 2 pick in his latest mock draft.

Zierlein noted the Texans "might not be a lock" to take C.J. Stroud if Bryce Young goes No. 1, and having two first-round picks gives them some flexibility to potentially add help along the defensive line early before taking a quarterback.

To get the quarterback, Zierlein has the Texans trading with the Las Vegas Raiders to get the No. 7 overall pick and selecting Kentucky's Will Levis.

No surprise there.

I've made a remark that jaxon smith njigba, the first receiver taken in the draft, was supposed to be his No. 1 receiver.

He got injured early in the first game against Notre Dame after catching 2 passes for 3 yards.
He tried to come back, catching just another 3 passes the following two games before shutting it down.

Stroud didn't miss a beat.

I'm rooting for him to become the best QB in the league. (I LOL at those wh thought I didn't want him to succeed.) He's already far surpassed my expectations. I'm still thinking the Texans are going to be screwed after yr 3.

If he turns out to be what we hope he's going to be, then yeah, he's gonna be very expensive to keep. Just like any QB is these days that is a true franchise QB. I'll worry about that then. And no I'm not forgetting about his ******* agent.

I haven't been this stoked for the Texans since 2002.
Me too.

Like I said, this is what I wanted from the Texans org since their inception. Everybody being on the same page, with a great system and teachers (Asst Coaches) that are eilte at what they do.

Ryans on defense, Stausser has been unbelievable. Who thought Slowik as a rookie would be as good at his job as he is? Johnson works directly with Stroud and I know for a fact how smart and talented that guy is. The future cant help but be right.

I really like what Ryans did in the draft/FA for the defense.

Bringing in Rankins/Ridgeway, Perryman, Griffin/Ward with drafting To'otoo SP? Anderson/Horton. He's molding a fairly young defense in his image.

On Offense I love the fact that they went out and spent late rd picks for quality depth instead of sitting on their hand and complain about injuries while also complaining about guys like McCray/Q/McCann sucking.

It is a new era and if they hit on 4-5 guys like they did last yr in the draft then this team can be true contenders as soon as next yr. (I'm shocked) What would you want in the draft if you could add 3-4 difference makers in FA/Draft?

For me, this is the yr I add 3 playmakers in the draft. TE/WR/RB, (draft is deep at these positions especially WR this yr) then add a quality LB/ Reader/Lawrence type DT and this team will be loaded for bear. They can go as Stroud can take them and he will have experience by next yr.

BTW, this is a good LB draft class.

Yeah I laughed a lot at some of the responses including yours. I always felt that I understood where you were coming from. It’s not easy being a Texans fan but I’m glad you’re one. I’m glad I’m one too. All of us really.

:)

I said it before...Lance isnt the greatest source nor is he liked or respected by many media outlets that cover the Texans...there are several that have came flat out and have had a laugh at his expense of being "a reporter and Texans insider".
Idk him as a person and obviously not a colleague of his....so I dont know if he comes off as arrogant, argumentative, abrasive, rash, or what the deal is...but people dont like him and he's been WAY OFF on some of his "insider stories".

They've had a middle of the pack QB and talent like Ryans/Watt etc... on the team. A middle of the pack QB will get you to the playoffs, but you wont win anything. Anyways it is what it is (Butts in seats is what's most important to the McNair's. Mission accomplished.... They had Kubes and the vaunted (Around these parts by some) RS.
