The Texans also signed three free agents who had been brought in for tryouts: tight end Derek Fine, fullback Justin Griffith and receiver Bobby Williams.

The Texans waived veteran tight end Michael Gaines and six undrafted free agents — offensive tackle Adam Ulatoski, receiver London Crawford, quarterback Tyler Sheehan, guard Kristian Matte, linebacker Will Patterson and fullback Jack Corcoran.

Fine (6-3, 247) enters his third professional season after playing the last two years with the Buffalo Bills. Since being selected by the Bills in the fourth round (132nd overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft, Fine has played in 18 games with 11 starts and has caught 19 passes for 158 yards and one touchdown. He was claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Rams in February, but was waived again less than four weeks later.

Griffith (6-0, 230) has played for three teams in eight seasons, most recently with Seattle last season. In 13 games for the Seahawks in 2009, he rushed four times for six yards and caught 19 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. In his career, he has gained 413 yards on 94 carries with one touchdown and has caught 141 passes for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Williams (6-2, 194) signed with Minnesota last season as an undrafted free agent out of the University of North Alabama and went through the preseason with the Vikings. He saw action in all four preseason games a year ago and caught four passes for 61 yards in preseason play.
