Bush is doing what he can to create the havoc-wreaking defense the Texans have failed to produce in recent seasons.
Thats the plan, Bush said. We hope our guys can get off the mark and get going with Amobi (Okoye) and those guys inside.
And, of course, with Mario (Williams) leading the charge. We want our guys to all just play faster, play with more passion and be more aggressive get after the quarterback.
Thats the name of the game, and we have some guys right now with Antonio (Smith), Mario and Amobi and even some of our other kids like DeMeco (Ryans) who can get after the passer. Were going to get after the quarterback even more than we did before.
And Okoye, a third-year tackle, will try to rebound from a sophomore season in which he struggled with an ankle injury and finished with just one sack.
(The offseason) is huge for the kid, Bush said of Okoye. First of all, we still believe in the kid. We still think he is tremendously talented. And we are just waiting for him to kind of flourish.
Its huge for him. Its an offseason where he gets a fresh start, of course. Were going into a brand-new season. He gets a chance to get over his sophomore slump and kind of get going again.
Hes excited about it. I know hes already been in working and whatnot. Its huge for him and critical for us because we depend on him to do some things for us.
Okoye is slated to start in the middle alongside Travis Johnson.
And Bush, who helped former defensive line coach Jethro Franklin, is aware that the play of Okoye, Johnson, Williams and Smith could set the tone for the defense.
