Now the Cowboys are REALLY going to suck! He is going to sit with 'boys and talk about a job as OC. I heard this on FSN yesterday...

I guess you mean, Chris Palmer, not Chris Brown.
 
Hey Texans fans.

I just wanted to com over here and get your views on Chris Palmer, your ex-Offensive Coordinator.

Looks like the guy is going to be the new Offensive Coordinator for the Cowboys.

What are some of the guys positives (if any) and negatives.

Hi Mike. I know he's had success at some places and he's an old Parcells guy which is a big plus for Bill. He's loyal to people he's been with. To a fault.

He wouldn't be my choice. I thought his offense was kind of dull. But you know the Texans didn't do any better under Pendry so some people think it was all Coach Capers fault anyway and Palmer was a scapegoat. I don't know if that's true or not. I guess this is Bill's hire then.
 
Palmer was a scapegoat here. I think you'll do fine with him. IMO, his style involved more passing, and Capers was a run-oriented coach. when the offense was run the way palmer wanted, they performed better. Don't look to the way we've played this year as Palmer's style. That was Pendry, and we got 2-14 out of it.

He ran Capers offense here. Don't look here for what he did. Look at Jacksonville during Mark Brunell's younger days.
 
Well see this guys know more about Palmer than I do. I always thought Coach ran the offense and Coach Capers ran the defense and stayed out of the offensive game planning. So he really was a scapegoat then. That I've heard over and over.
 
he didn't do so hot developing young QBs (David Carr/Tim Couch) thats for damn sure. good thing he has a vet that is uncoachable so he cant ruin him in dallas.

He is a good developer of QBs. In fact, he is the one who helped Bledsoe get his career off the ground.

I'm not sold on Bledsoe. Everyone knows he has a huge arm. Everyone knows he is fairly accurate. A few have called him uncoachable. A few have felt that he wasn't good enough to keep as a franchise QB now. He less than mobile and makes some pretty dumb throws at times. More than a few say he is slow on reads and pats the ball too much. *shrug*

he was doing fine until the dallas oline went south.

seriously, I want to see him under Parcells and if calls better plays. This must mean that Parcells is hanging around next season.

he should fit right in with Parcells then.....

On one hand, I love that Parcells has made the Cowboys legit again on talent evaluation, fundamentals coaching and accountability. On the other hand, i hate how conservative his offenses TEND to be. Sure there was maybe a year or two when he threw a lot more than normal.
 
Unfortunately, we don't know what kind of coach he was because of the nature of our staff. It was obvious by the middle of the third year that we had problems on our coaching staff. The personalities were just not meshing well. The more problems we ran into, the more conservative our offense got until we choked on a 2-14 record. I agree with an earlier post in that you really have to go back to Jax to get a good feal for Palmer. Cleveland didn't have the horses to make a good offense (ref. Tim Couch) and neither did we. Palmer may be better for y'all because of Bledsoe's previous relationship and yall have some decent players at WR and O-line.

grass is always green on the other side, I suppose. Other than the running back position, I've felt that Houston has better players at QB and WR. That might be a really misguided feeling given that Carr hasn't done so well but.....

the dallas OL needs some help at center and tackle. It wouldn't hurt to be grooming some guards as well since Dallas is starting senior citizens at guard now a days. Larry Allen is still my fave though....

Parcells made the decision to return a few weeks ago and signed an extension. With a raise I believe.

Wrong. Those are Dom Capers game plans. Before his Texans' gig, no Palmer offense resembled ANYTHING close to what the offense looked like here. This was Capers' offense through and through.

With Palmer, Bledsoe improved greatly during his "formative" years in the NFL. He will do well again with Palmer. Mark Brunell did great under Palmer.

You would not happen to live in Albany, NY would you?
 
As an OC, Palmer has done fine when he's had talent to work with. So far Houston has been his only stop where he didn't succeed.

Now is that indicative of Palmer's coaching abilities or the lack of talent in Houston? Did the offense improve after Palmer was released? If not, why not?

I think he'll be "okay" in Dallas. I don't expect much improvement from this past season. Talent seems to make a coach look pretty good. If we don't upgrade our talent on offense, it'll be more of the same.
 
dallas needs offensive linemen, specifically a right tackle and a center that doesn't get blown up (johnson) or is too dumb to remember the snap count (gurode).

I found it funny that Parcells said Gurode was better at center because he didn't have to think as much. *boggle*:confused: Doesn't matter who is OC in Dallas. If they don't get better on the OL, Bledsoe will suck.
 
Bledsoe had a typical Bledsoe year this past season.

To believe he'd play better if he had a better OL would mean you could point back to some point in his career as evidence (unless his OL has sucked every year he's been in the league...which I doubt) that he could.

What you saw from him is about as good as it's going to get. He has a habit of making an OL look much worse than what they are.

What we need to do is work on the running game. It's been way too inconsistent for too many years.
 
I heard on the radio that Palmer is expected to take the OC job with the Saints and not Cowboys.

Mac Engel, of the Star-Telegram, reports the Dallas Cowboys are close to hiring Chris Palmer for a position on their offensive coaching staff. Palmer is not a lock to be the team's next offensive coordinator and replace Sean Payton as the team's passing game coordinator and primary play-caller.
 
Kippy Brown just got hired to be the Lions WRs coach too, so we'll see what they can produce on offense. If Martz ends up going there as the O-Coordinator, they could become the next St. Louis Rams with their talented WR trio, they will just have to decide whether they want Harrington or a new QB and then fix up their OLine a little.

Bledsoe was having a good season until Flozell went down. His replacement couldn't hack it. Bledsoe is like Mark Rypien, you give him time and he can pick you apart. You don't and he is on his tail 24-7.

That said, if they have a losing record at any point past the 6th game of the season, I think it is time to try out the other Drew. What can it hurt?
 
Yeah but the problem with Bledsoe is that he needs a lot more time than an average QB in order to pick you apart. He's way too slow through his progressions and takes too long to get rid of the ball. Many of his sacks you can attribute to the OL but a ton more can be placed on Bledsoe.

We'll see how the other Drew does in NFLE. Hopefully he can be the next Brad Johnson.

Good news on the Palmer hire. From successful OC to QB coach? I'll take it.

I agree.

He got sacked 49 times. 25 the last 5 games without Flo. The last 5 games which 4 of them were when they decided not max protect and llet Tucker on his own.

It had a lot to do with Flo being out.


You can go back to when Flo was in the games and compare the sacks and Bledsoes #'s and you can see a significant change.

I dont put to much money on that. He cant beat out Romo for the back up job.

I still think Romo will be given the chance to start after this year. Unless we draft one or sign a free agent.

There's a difference between "can't" and "hasn't".

Doesn't Bledsoe have 2 years left on his contract? I'm sure Parcells can dig up another former QB when it's time to replace the current edition. Phil Simms can't be all that happy in the booth, can he?

True. I believe he hasnt because he cant. I wasnt on board for the Henson trade when it happen and I'm still not . It was a wasted 3rd round pick as far as I'm concern.

I still dont see why people are still on the Henson wagon. He hasnt even proved he could be the back up.
 
I just wonder how Palmer is going to work with Bledsoe. I thought Palmer was big on the whole, PA rollout. Bledsoe is a lead-foot, what's gonna happen when Palmer calls that.

He was hired as the QB coach. Him and Bledsoe worked together in 96 when the Patriots went to the SB.
