Chris Draft???

Chris Draft, Linebacker, Atlanta Falcons was released today and I think he would be a great pickup for us. They are saying good things about him on the Falcons board, and we could really use another starting linebacker instead of having to rely on a rookie. Also, if we get Draft we could fill other needs in the draft with a first round pick, OL, 2nd WR.

I am just saying if we arent going to get anyone in the draft than we might as well get Draft. Like instead of using our first round pick on a linebacker or trading up to get one (Derrick Johnson, Odell Thurman, ...) we could just get Draft for less of a price.

Draft would be a nice pickup if he'd come at a reasonable price. There was talk that Lewis and the Bengals were looking at both Draft and Sharper, and were waiting for them to be released before pursuing either one. Looks like we might have some competition for him if we are interested in him.

Unless of course Lewis intends to go after Sharper.

We will probably inquire and go from there no harm in looking at a product and inquiring about the price.

He is one notch better Moreno, Polk and chamberlin. Will not embarass, but not a real long-term answer either.

as if now, what would the Texans depth chart look like at the linebacker position, because i heard Kailee Wong is moving to the inside. would it look like this:

LOLB: Jason Babin Charlie Anderson
LILB: Morlon Greenwood DaShon Polk
RILB: Kailee Wong Zeke Moreno
ROLB: Antwan Peek

If so, I think that wouldn't be that bad of a linebacker set, but could definately use improvement with getting new linebackers- Chris Draft, draft one, or other free agents

As of now, on a depth chart, with Sharper missing, Wong moving in with greenweed, that leaves Antwan Peek as a starter? or is that DJ's spot?

i SERIOUSLY doubt DJ will still be there when we pick at #13, plus i think the Frony office has our LB crew where they want them, i feel this move was also to allow peek a starting role in our defense.

personally i think we'll draft an inside linebacker...either we'll trade up and pick up DJ or we'll trade down and grabe ruud, thurman, or crowder...pollack is another option...i believe casserly when he says we won't be picking at the 13th pick on draft day

I was roommates with Chris' big brother, Tony. They are a great guys and would be excellent in our system. I agree he would have to come in at reasonable price. He used to play with Kailee at Stanford and they are very good friends so I wouldn't be surprised if KW is pushing for him. Even if he didn't come in to start he would be an excellent pick up but I think he could possibly crack the starting lineup at some point. Our depth right now doesn't look too good at one of our most prized positions as far as our scheme goes. I vote yes for bringing him in for a few years and drafting one to groom now.

I think they will trade up for DJ.

Babin / Anderson
GreenWood / ???
Johnson / ???
Wong / Peek

I don't think DJ will immediately start as an insidebacker.

I think He would start at ROLB. then the next offseason start the mind melting process of learning the ILB position as it may entail him calling the alignment.

ILB is also more of a leadership role so not many Rookie LB start on the inside. I think the last Rookie to start at ILB/MLB was E.J Henderson if not him then Ted Lehman of Detroit

DJ would not hold up taking on 330 pound tackles at the Right Outside Linebacker in a 3-4 I don't think. I can't see that as a viable scenario. NFL LT's will destroy him in the running game and he would be run right at. If we are lucky enough to select him I believe he would be a day 1 starter inside beside Greenwood.

Well Considering Peek is about the same size wise, its a wash at that position unless Wong starts ROLB. If he does start inside it will atleast be 2006 season before he will be playing at full potential. Either way they go with it itll atleast take a year. If they are even going to draft DJ at all.

You might check out the Defensive Rookie of the year last year--Jon Vilma.

Size issues aside, the difference between asking Peek to take on LT's etc. and DJ to do it is Peek was a DE in college and built a repretoire of pass rush moves. DJ on the other hand doesn't have those moves or experience. As Casserly would make the distinction, he may be a blitzer but he isn't a pass rusher.
