Charlie Weis is gone

He will be in the NFL next year and maybe as early as right after the season ends. Not as a Head Coach (though I guess it could be possible) but as an OC somewhere.

Who comes in ?

A lot of people are looking at Kelly out of Cincinnatti.

I think if Urban Meyer wins the NC for Florida again, he could be swayed to go to ND as a challenge. What else is there for him to accomplish in Florida if they win another this year? Notre Dame can pay him the money he wants and give him a chance to turn things around college-football style not Patriots-style.

That style doesn't work in college. My way or the highway and being short with the media and with criticism. That doesn't fly in college football especially with a fanbase like ND. You gotta be nice to people and you gotta have a personality and show some freaking charisma. You gotta be able to recruit and go out there and sell your program to the players and their families and coaches. Belicheat and Weis don't have to do that in the NFL so much. They don't have to relate to high school coaches and parents, they just have to relate to the players and their representation in order to retain and entice people towards your organization.

Different equation, Weis was probably a bad fit from get go. Some coaches are wired for college, some for pro.

Jim Harbaugh would be a good fit because he has some academic limitations on him at Stanford, but I think he is going to be an NFL coach perhaps as early as next year. Who knows, maybe even at Houston. Probably a long shot but stranger things have happened.

Bob Stoops is a pipedream. Lou/Skip Holtz would be an interesting dynamic but then we wouldn't get his campy bits on ESPN CollegeGameDay anymore. Will Muschamp ain't giving up the chance to be the head coach at Texas with Mack Brown as his AD, to be the Notre Dame head coach. I think it might behoove them to look at a minority candidate as well. They kinda ran Willingham out of town and it has been a little bit of a black eye. They just need someone who can recruit and recruit on a national scale focusing on FL, TX, CA, PA, LA, and OH. If you can pluck one or two 4 or 5 star recruits out of those states, you'll put yourself together a helluva football team.

ESPN says there's an 18 million dollar buyout as a going away Christmas
present to Weis. That's almost shameful in these economic times given what it costs to attend college & universoties. How many kids educations could that have covered ?

Im sure most of that money comes from the boosters who happen to give money to the school for sports only

Didn't take long and its obvious they voted 'No Bowl Game' as a team if they are canning him this early.

I wonder if the players heard that he was going to be fired even if they took the bowl and and said no. I would be very proud of those guys if that is what happened and that is what they did. Im sorry, but Im pretty big on loyalty and I would rather not give the AD and anyone else any enjoyment of a bowl game.
