Charles Rogers vs Andre Johnson

DetroitLions

Practice Squad
Not coming here to troll, but just a friendly debate, and get some insight form Andres fans.. Who do you think is better and why...? :)

Welcome to the board...short answer from me on this is that Rogers got hurt and hasn't had a chance to truly shine yet. AJ already has proven his ability over the course of a full season. We'll get a good chance to see more in week 2, eh?

Rogers has made some nice highlight-reel grabs in preseason.

It is hard to tell because Rogers was hurt most of last year, but I always thought that AJ would have been a better pick by the Lions then Rogers. I still feel that the Lions drafted Rogers because of the Michigan ties and I also feel that Roy Williams will be better then Rogers...

But AJ is tough. A heck of a run blocker, very aggressive, always wanting to get better, never quits on a play, and has the best combination of size and speed out of him a Rogers...

JMHO....

As a Lions fan that is new to Houston, I will answer you. Rogers injury last year prohibits a comparison at this time. But, IMO, it is difficult to compare them anyway. AJ is a bigger, more physical WR, while CR is a faster, downfield kind of WR. R Williams is a closer comparison to the AJ type of WR.

Too early to tell. Neither has moved ahead in the pack yet. Andre' is the man for sure and will get more touches I think.

Yeah, but AJ and Rogers will always be compared because Rogers was #2 and AJ #3 in their draft...

And I really dont think that there is that big of a difference in their speed. Both of them ran track and I believe both won a bunch of races. And the 40 times werent that far off.

-----------------------
They both ran 4.43 40s

I'll look for the 40 times.....
the only thing that makes me think Rogers is better then Andre is because Rogers had 1 less TD in about 1/3 of the games.. Andre seem to be promising though...

coming out of college rogers was more polished. he had supurb hands, quickness, speed and could catch in a crowd and was very much compaired to moss. but as far as all around intangibles i think thats got to be andre, i think he can do more things for the total offense, like everyone said up there^ we will see this season, i cant wait to see myself because over here in the camp' we get dallas and texans games on our both football channels on sundays at one time and not often did they even play a lions game. i wanna see if my pot'na dave out performs joey. cant wait till week 2.......
:D it is going to be good... There is going to be 2 sub-matchups in this game. Carr the #1 vs Harrington the #3, and Rogers the #2 vs Johnson the #3... i cant wait... I dont know if you all heard Mort, from ESPN, but he said he would take Carr over Joey, and he thinks Carr is the real deal... just something i thought u would like to know...

I wouldnt put too much weight on TDs...

I believe it is alright to compare the first 5 games:
AJ averaged 5.6 catches for 79 yards a game with a 14.1 yards per catch average and had 2 TDs

CR averaged 4.4 catches for 48.6 yards per game with a 11 yard per catch average and had 3 TDs

Whats going on with Roy up there? I watched about 1/3 of your game against the Browns...and I saw Roy drop at least three dead-on passes.

Well, he droped 1 very good ball, gator-armed, a highthrown ball but catchable ball, and the other one was a bad pass, and IMO wasnt very catchable... He did much better VS the Ravens though... 3 catches for 40 yards, and a bunch of YAC, and shook off Ray Lewis for his first reception...

Rookie Nerves?

I saw 2 dropped, and one at his knees. 1 he was double covered and almost made a spectacular 1 handed grab (but he could have got both hands on it), the other was thrown slightly behind him. Regardless, he should have had both. Last week he had 3 grabs for 40 yds against a stingy Bal D. 1 catch I saw him put his head down, plow into a safety and carry 3 defenders for an extra 5 yds. He'll have his ups and downs, but towards the end of the season he start lighting it up.

Andre cause hes had more games to develope so far. I havn't had the chance to watch Charles to much cause I dont get the game or hes been hurt. I just think Andre has developed more and is becoming a very noticible reciever in the league.

Dont forget D-Rob (#10) against Roy Williams (#7)

It is going to be a great game....

You Houston fans are classy... easy to talk to.. unlike the garbage packer and bears fans... you might as well be talking to a cage full fo monkeys... thanks for the insight, GL to the Texans, and may the best team win on week 2...

P.S. I really think the Texans have the top 3 best looking jerseys in the league.. :thumbup

Speaking of D-rob, is he the #2, nickel back, or the dime back? Roy is the #2 WR, so i hope Dunta is the #2... alot of good matchups in this game..

I'd have to say that Rogers will probably get more TD's this year if he stays healthy. The Lions seem to air it out more West Coast style than our ball controlling offense. Harrington threw almost double the amount of TD's (in addition to more INT's) so it's natural that the recievers are going to have better stats. But can you guage a WR on yards and TD's alone? No, but that is what he is payed to do, produce. Rogers in my opinion will have the better year stat wise because he is in an offense that can make him look good. (see T. Owens, J. Rice)

AJ I think right now AJ is the best based on yards after the reception. This link gives you a nice insight into AJ and what he is like along with stats on yards after the reception. AJ is becoming a feared receiver by the defense and I think Carr and AJ will contect a lot more this year, particularly with the changes in what the CB's can do while defending the receiver.

well both have their positives and negetives, charles has the speed, runs good routes, and can make the great catch (see notre dame game), but he has trouble getting off the bump. andre is fast, physical, and is a great run blocker, but he has trouble running routes and can drop some catchable passes. i won't judge till after next year but i still think cj is moss and andre is a quiet owens.

good to see roy is back to his old self.

So far Andre w/o a doubt. Of Course Rodgers was hurt, but that's all we have to go by. In the long run I think both will have very good careers because they have a alot of young very talented players on offense to help them along. I would take Andre though, becuase he is stronger and could probably handle the punishment better.

I know they list what university players come from forever, but their characteristics coming out of college compaired to present day do change. Scouts did question his routes coming out of college, but after last year the consensus was he was a strong route runner. He has worked on that and on his hands again this off-season as part of his work ethic to improve. On routes I wouldn't give either an edge right now--hands, let's see how the work paid off.
By the way, Rogers dropped a slightly higher % (9.6%) of passes thrown his way last season prior to going down than Andre did (8.4%).

It IS hard to compare these two kids together. If you base it off of this year, then you will think that CR is injury prone. And AJ almost hit the 1,000 mark. But I say we wait until their sophmore campaign's. I just hope both stay healthy. They are both playmakers. But I have to go with my boy AJ on this one. Sorry Detroit.

how did you find out how many passes each dropped? i could never find anywhere, where it showed dropped passes... do you have a link? because it would be mighty useful to me..

I'd take AJ, just as I would have if I had the choice in the draft. We got the receiver that I wanted. Charles Rogers may turn out even better than AJ, but AJ has the size and speed to create some great mismatches. Also, Andre's attitude and demeanor add a couple marks in his favor as well. I hope they both have long and healthy careers.

Look here. They also have interesting stats on QB's for how many missed receptions are due to defensive plays, dropped passes and bad throws as well as stats on how many sacks and penalties each offensive lineman gives up.

i'm just talking about the ball that you need to catch and a few come to mind when he should have caught it and didn't, those are the balls that he has to catch. he is still sloppy in his routes but you're right he is getting better but he can still improve. if he could fix that it would make him that much better.
