Chargers cut a cheap starting FS

A 32 year old Jerry Wilson who was pretty much a career backup to come in and start for us at FS?

He was entering the final season of his contract and was scheduled to have a base salary of $670,000. He could get some interest in free agency as a nickel defender and special teams player.

Highly doubt he would come to the Texans and start ..... Career back-up

Although I do think the Texans need to find another player at FS .... Both CC Brown and Glen Earl are better suited to SS ..... After Colemans pathetic season ....a DUI , missed meetings .... showed me he has more on his mind than superbowls ... a change needs to be made at FS

I believe Chris Hope is scheduled to be a UFA, but I imagine the Steelers will make a pretty serious attempt to re-sign him. If we could get him, though, he is one of the best cover safeties in the league, and might very well be worth the considerable cap hit involved.

Of course, persuading him to move from the Superbowl Champions to a 2-14 team might not be the easiest job in the world.

I can't imagine them letting him get away, but then again it is the Rooney family that have to pony up those hard earned dollars.

No, I agree. If it was another team it wouldn't even be a question, but the Steelers don't often give big contracts to their own veterans. That said, I don't think they can either do without Hope or replace him, and they probably know that.

I read on profootballtalk that Hope's agent has been rubbing the Rooney's the wrong way and could hurt Hope's chances of coming back to the Steelers. Of course it came from PFT so take it for what its worth.

Because Jerry Wilson is 34 years old and in 9 games last season had a whooping 17 tackles and no INT's compared to McCree, who is 29 years old and in 16 games last season with the Panthers had 88 tackles and 3 INT's, which is more than what he did combined as a Texan in 2 full seasons, he is yet another example of a guy who leaves Houston and shines on another team.

please don't mistake my post as pro-Wilson ..... and IMO McCree isn't the long term answer either ..... cut from Jacksonville, cut from Houston, tenure at Carolina (TBD) ...

His last season with the Jags he had 71 tackles and 6 INT's. The guy has had success everywhere except here. And look at what some of the other guys we have cut have gone on to do...

I could be wrong but I don't think our bad cuts to good cuts ratio is that much higher than anyone else's ... sure there's Steve Foley, .... but there's also Billy Miller, ...
