The Texans finished 16th in the league in scoring defense last year at 21.2 per game. They finished 21st in scoring offense at 19.3 So why is it they have done little on offense in the offseason while adding linebacker Morlon Greenwood in free agency and trading for corner Philip Buchanan and using a first-round pick on defensive tackle Travis Johnson? One word: Progression. The team is expecting big leaps forward for left tackle Seth Wand and receivers Andre Johnson and Jabbar Gaffney. Johnson went to the Pro Bowl last year, but the staff thinks he can be an even better player. That's saying something.

Wand struggled a bunch in his first season as a starter, often requiring double-team help. The Texans hope he has progressed enough to allow him more one-on-one blocking matchups. Gaffney played well at times, but he has to play better to help keep the double off Johnson.

One wild card for the Texans is tight end Bennie Joppru. After missing his first two years with injuries, Joppru is back running again and appears ready to become a factor in the offense. He is a pass-catching threat in the middle of the field, which starter Mark Bruener isn't. The next month, when the Texans have their 14 on-field days, will go a long way in deciding how much of an impact Joppru can have this year.

To me BJ is a little like another first day pick from last months draft, even though its his third year with the Texans. He's probably the single most important guy we need to realize his college potential for the offense to
really take off and suceed in a big way.
 
I agree with Sportsline. Having a tight end that can block AND Catch this season is really going to make this season my "judgement day".

The option to dump off to DD is a lot more effective in the flat, when you have a tight end that can drag the middle and tie up or make linebacker shesitate. Think about it, streak Johnson deep and Carr could have some fun on his first and second reads.
