Casserly's Inteview process:

gtexan02

Working?
Just thought everyone should hear this, since it sounded pretty interesting to me:

that was part of the interview process, certainly asking people, ‘How would you use Reggie Bush?’ Because at the time we interviewed everybody, we thought Reggie Bush was going to declare. I think he gives you a lot of options, plus he gives you a touchdown maker and another playmaker on offense.

In his press briefing

For a riverboat gambler, he sure tips his cards a little too often, 'eh?

Good, bad, or indifferent, I think it's becoming pretty obvious which way this franchise is headed in the draft.

Which is ridiculous if this pattern persists. I totally understood the announcing and signing of Carr when we selected him with the #1, but why in the world would you just flat out ruin all of your chances at wheeling and dealing??

We really should have gotten rid of casserly even before we fired capers, this guy has to be the worst thing this organization has EVER hired.

it doesn't necesarily take us out, just weeds out all the bad offers, someone who wants him now knows that we would be happy to take him so the offer better be good.

I feel like we have to babysit this guy. How is he with the team still?I'm just floored that someone can't just be a little more subtle.

Exactly now everybody knows how bad we want bush and that we wont accept any average trade offer.

He has not ruled out drafting VY and here is a quote from that link "(on Vince Young) “Vince Young is certainly a very talented quarterback. He can run and he can throw. If he ends up here, then he’s certainly an outstanding pro prospect.”

No where did I read that they are drafting Bush.

people need to wake up and realize we are taking bush, that is why Charlie is tipping his hand. Look I was also caught up in the Vince craze after he put up a top 5 all-time sports performance, but I can see why the organization and Kubiak still believe in Carr. Despite being the most sacked QB in the game for the second year in a row he was able to throw for more TDs than ints and pass for over 60% and he did it in a year where his inept O cordinator was fired and both his offensive weapons where injured and had a down year. I can see the organizations point of view, where they believe if we just surround him with more weapons he can succeed. Before the Rose bowl the city was going crazy and overly excited about the prospect of drafting Bush. Carr fits more of the mold of QB that Kubiak has done wonders with. If the texans choose to take Bush, I'll understand

I wouldn't be surprised if in the next few months News 2 Houston will report Charlie missing and then he will show back up the day after the draft, safe and sound. It is like working with Lenny from "Of Mice and Men" and Bush is the rabbit he wants to pet and love. :tv:

What that tells me is the only way Young ends up here is if he totally blows our scouts away and can show without a doubt that he is clearly the top choice of this draft. Even if that happens though, if we sign Carr to the extension, I just cannot see us take Young. I think things will become clearer around the deadline of signing Carr.

People have already forgotten how Casserly tipped his hand the last time we had a #1 pick.

He told the world he was drafting Carr long before the draft. I remember we had a ton of people in here speculating that he was bluffing. He obviously wasn't bluffing.

Good point. Casserly and McNair locked on and never let go. I see the same pattern repeating itself here. Well, at least Reggie is exciting.

And what a great pick it was, too.

Bush would be my last choice of the three, so it figures that Casserly would lock onto him. Oh well, at least he has a tremendous upside.

With Casserly track record he would probably fumble the darft pick like he did the last 4 years. Are there any free agent GM's out there?

Admit it. Aren't you guys really mad because Casserly didn't say "We've been asking coaches we interview to break down Vince Young film".

I happen to like the Bush selection, but no decision will be made without Kubiak's blessing (presuming he is the head coach).

Nope, didn't go there and have been a Bush supporter. I just think Charlie is a moron, plain and simple, for throwing his cards on the table. The draft is about rumors, trade offers, speculation, etc and we hold the cards. He doesn't seem to get this concept. What should we expect though, the guys has been a bad GM for two teams now.

Not really. I expect the Texans to take Bush, and I definitely don't expect them to start playing their cards close to the vest now.

Maybe were trying to tempt the saints to swap spots. With Duece and the injury maybe they are willing to keep Brooks and want Bush instead since Duece will not be the same for at least a season.
How old is Duece?

There is no way that they take Brooks back. And they definitely aren't going to take a RB because Deuce just got a really big contract extension.

Could it be that the Texans have spoken with the Saints and the Titans, and it's just a done deal that the Saints want Leinart...and the Titans want Young...and that leaves us with getting Bush regardless of a trade with one of those two teams?

I mean, we could be overlooking the obvious.

Past the No. 3 spot (Titans) do you really think we can afford to slide down and still get an impact player? It would be disastrous to trade with a team farther back than the No. 2 or No. 3 spot and then get royally hosed and end up with a significantly less talented or needed player. And you think the heckling is bad now, think if that scenario played itself out. Yikes.

You guys bang on Uncle Charles all you want. He's not mouthing anything his boss (Bob) wouldn't also think and/or feel. Obviously if he's still here and has a job...then he isn't saying anything that his boss wouldn't approve of.

Bush better suits us and what we need than Young. You can see the Young crowd starting to fade a little. The excitement of Pasadena is wearing off....the highlights on ESPN Sportscenter are dwindling each day...and the Texans are going to hire a coach that likes to have lots of extra RBs for his style of offense. Can you imagine DD and Bush in the backfield...and the defense crowds the box with extra defenders...and then Bush motions out to join Andre Johnson and Jerome Mathis as a wide out? Crap-ola.

You all are very naive if you think Casserly has laid all his cards out on the table.

And he isn't doing anything that doesn't meet with McNair's approval, under the advisement of Dan Reeves.

Morons? Yeah, there are a whole lot of morons around here.

Smoke and mirrors, folks. Smoke and mirrors. :)

Hope everyone can hang on until late April.

Yeah, it's almost comical that Casserly is getting paid to be a puppet GM.

I mean, IMO, Casserly is merely the front man of the team's personnel moves with Reeves and McNair actually being the real decision-makers.

What a job...to get paid all that dough to parrot what someone else is saying.

There is a killer ventriloquist joke here, but I am taking the high road....for now. :bomb:

Did you notice how indepth Charley went into about how they will use Reggie? Seems like they are already writing the playbook.

The Vince support is slowly going towards Reggie. Remember that poll on 610's website of Bush v. Young and how it was 66-30 in favor of Young? Well now it is 51-46 in favor of Young.

And you're right, Charley isn't going to say anything that hasn't been approved by Bob.

Casserly sitting beside Bob on Sunday night football (remember the scene?):

Bob has his arms crossed and is sitting straight up in the chair with a disgusted look on his face.

And Casserly is beside Bob but Casserly is hunched over and shelling peanuts and popping them in his mouth. And then Casserly has this look on his face that reminds me of a schoolboy who just got spanked and now has to sit in time out in front of everybody. Casserly wasn't even watching the game, too, which made it funnier.

Priceless.

You know, say what you want about Casserly...he's taking his beating like a man and he knows who signs the paychecks. Well, uh, I guess technically maybe it's Casserly who signs the paychecks....you get the point though...

I'm going to be amazed when Casserly somehow get another teams entire draft, like something like this years 1st, 2nd and 3rd and next years 1st and 2nd. Then, he actually uses the picks right. I wonder what people would talk about on this board. Let's see, Kubiak takes Carr and molds him into a great QB. DD shares time with Morency and Wells and stays healthy with Seth Wand at LT and Hodgen at starting center. Wade pulls out an amazing year and Buchanan becomes the next Dieon, minus the attitude. We switch to a 4-3 where Babin is perfectly utilized, and Greenwood becomes the fierce supporting character he was in Miami. Somehow Earl and CC Brown turn into one of the best young safety tandems in the coutry. Obviously, not all of these will happen, (especially the trading down part) but its not too far fetched to think some of the others might. Casserly might actually look like a genius after this season, though no one would give him credit for it and blame it all on the coaches.

Almost forgot, this is all while our team is on its way to the Super Bowl.

Not a chance. Mr. McNair is a very good business man and everything is for sale at the right price. EVERYTHING!

Well, it might be a clear indicator that he's not interested in "wheeling and dealing" this year. Our only other "#1 overall" pick was like this. Everyone knew months in advance that we were taking Carr. Now it appears that everyone will know months in advance that we're taking Reggie Bush.

Or do they? Don't spend too much time trying to figure out what the Texans are doing with the pick right now. We're like 3+ months away from the draft, we have no Pro Days or Combine to consider. A lot can happen in the next three months. Right now the Texans are talking Reggie Bush. Right now that's the most obvious choice with the first overall pick. Next to that is trading the pick and if/when that happens you won't be seeing all kinds of talk in the press about that.

It's just too soon.

Also I don't share your loathing of Casserly. He's abrasive, no doubt about that, but I don't think he's the worst thing about our organization. I want to see what another staff does with these players, then I'll decide one way or the other about Casserly. Again I think you're "too soon".

Why would it be any different than the Carr draft when he did the same thing?I think the people being naive are the ones thinking Charlie is actually smart enough as a GM to pull smoke and mirrors off. His tricks are Chuck E. Cheese compares to some GMs Houdinis.

As for what Herv said above, I am hoping that in the next 2 months or so, someone can rein him in. The least you can do is listen to offers, especially since you have two or three smoking hot prosepcts at the top

You dislike him personally to the point where you can no longer be objective.

If you think, for one minute, that Charley can do anything now, make any decision, say anything, or do anything, without McNair signing off on it, then you either never listened to what McNair said at Capers' firing, or you just didn't want to listen.

He is McNair's voice. McNair is calling the shots. Especially with the 1st pick.

Not really. I disliked him to start because I didn't like what he did at Washington. What is wrong with taking a persons record to task? His drafting hasn't been stellar. I'd love the surly guy if he got us the players we needed. I just don't kiss up. He has caused many of our problems. Going 2-14 and the other years is due to a lack of talent. Talent he was allegedly infusing. That is great if McNair is pulling the strings but what does that have to do with the last 4 years and what does that have to do with him opening his mouth when he should be holding his cards?
