Casserly comments....

DRAMA

Rookie
Couple of things I thought was interesting was when Casserly said that Carr gets his bonus before the last game per his contract. Then, he says, our owner has already said that we're going to bonus him, and since we're all the same team, that's what will happen. When asked if Carr would be a Free Agent if the team did NOT renew, he said yes. The interesting thing is that most teams would've responded "Hey, David Carr is our guy! We believe in him and he will be our QB next season." He just sounded real reserved about that topic.

Another thing that was odd was when they asked about Reggie Bush and he went into a diatribe on how coaches can't draft players and expect them to do something in the NFL that they really didn't do in college. Coaches can't expect a cover 2 corner to come in......etc.....and be something different. It seemed like he was kind of hanging his coaches out a little?

Maybe it was me. Thoughts?

Shoot, you think it's bad now? Wait until I start interpreting the 'thought processes' of Bob McNair and Charlie C from sentences like:

"He runs hard"

(But not hard enough? Who DD? Was his contract a mistake? Can he hold up? Are we drafting BUSH?)

"I love horseracing"
(But not the NFL? Are you selling the team? Are we relocating? David Carr is NOT a horse?)

"Houston is a great town"
(But we're not great fans? Your raising prices? Moving the team? David Carr is not a horse?)

"We want to get a Superbowl"
(David Carr is not a horse?)

That's how bad it gets around the end of the season and draft time so bear with me...

I think he was a better fit in DC. caught the tail end of the conversation but the main thing that bothered me was his thoughts on projecting players coming into the NFL, specificly turning DE's into OLB's since as he stated "there are only two programs that run the 34 Virginia & Maryland" that bascily its a crap shoot trying to get the right guy who actually pans out. thought this was a shot at Babin and if there is any doubt what so ever- why trade all those picks? that did not work for me, heck he could have just saved those picks and drafted players he was more sure about if thats the case :brickwall

someone explain to the Steelers that drafting OLB for the 3-4 is a crap-shoot. Maybe Colajero is rolling the dice for Pittsburgh & we've got Frankie Coffecake staring @ Charlie Casserly during draft day.

That is alarming to me that he would say something like that. We need a GM that spends less time playing poker and one that knows how to evaluate talent. Freakin take a job on all the "Celebrity" poker tv shows if you want to gamble all time there Casserly. Maybe since Casserly's never experience in a team that runs the 3-4, Capers has to do all the evaluting for him because obviously he can't do it.

And the Chargers, and the Pats, and the Cowboys who have made a successful conversion from the 4-3 to the 3-4 in just one season and staffed 3 starting spots with rookies, including a 4-3 college DE at OLB. I dunno why Capers has so much trouble accomplishing what several others seem to be able to do without many complications, he's suppose to be the 3-4 D guru ?

:texflag: The Cowboys of the 90's were one of the most physically imposing teams I've seen . They hit the jackpot with these picks ...they were Leon Lett , Larry Allen , Erik Williams and Chad Hennings . They took some risk by drafting guys from small schools or that have been in the Air Force who I believe dropped in their lap .

If this team did not have such bad habits off the field they might have won more SBs . Bottom line is they took chances and hit ...but it was on linemen not undersized DEs to change into a SS or whatever .

But they drafted these guys after they drafted Aikman, Emmitt and Irvin.

The Cowboys drafted like this

88 Irvin
89 Aikman , Johnston , Stepnoski
90 Emmitt
91 Erik Williams 3rd , Leon Lett 7th
94 L:arry Allen

They drafted Russell Maryland 1st overall one of those years and kept Nate Newton and Mark Tuinea . They brought in at least 5 really good linemen in a 5 year span . Add Moose Johnston the best blocking FB I have seen . All this coming from a guy who hates the Cowboys .

Its Charlie's turn

2002 Pitts a 2nd , Weary and Charles Hill were 3rds

2003 Wand a 3rd , Keith Wright who cares

2005 Travis Johnson 1st rd . Drew Hodgon a 5th

They look the same to me I don't know whats wrong . :crying:

I am so ready to scrap the 3/4 I want to spit. Heck, they don't even draft guys who fit it sometimes. I still contend Travis Johnson is better served as a 4/3 tackle. I say we transition to the 4/3 next year. Rotate Walker, Johnson, and Payne at the two tackle spots, and for now, we will probably have to go with Babin, Peek, and a cast of thousands at DE. The LB core will need to be totally remade over time. For now, we can have Greenwood or Wong fight it out for MLB, and God only knows at OLB. This team is such a mess, where do you even start? As to Casserly, he didn't sound all that enthused about Carr. Maybe he finally sat down and watched some game tape.

If you look at the Steelers draft and most (not all) years they draft the combination of a DE/OLB convert, a DL, and at least one OLman. They make a commitment to keeping the pipeline of these positions full.

They are always prepared for free agency losses as well. They make very good use of their drafts and have really only had a couple of misses at selecting LB's but were prepared if that happend.

:texflag: I bet since the 98 draft the Steelers are at 60% hits in the 1st 3 rds . Compare that to us . By hits I mean starters who could start for other teams .

Casserly's comments, if I could be so bold, fit what I have been saying for sometime. This coaching staff is so bad that they tear down the players we get and destroy any assemblance of ability they had. Not only has Carr gone down hill, but so has AJ. The only player who seems to have performed well despite the coaching has been DROB and I'm not certain he has shown that much improvement this year. Vinny gets pxxxd off because some of his favorite players have been taken to task and I keep saying despite what he thinks of Carr that it is all in the coaching. For anyone to try to evaluate a player on this ball club makes no sense at all, because they are being so badly miscoached. They are made to play schemes and techniques which are just outlandish and taught how to play to not loose. The spirit of this team has been broken by this coaching staff. The only coach that might be worth keeping is Marciano. I would like to dump everyone right now and let Marciano take over and bring some people in and see what happens. Most everyone should be gone by the end of the year anyway. Let him begin to try to put some spirit back into this ball club. I think he still garners some respect of his players. Pendry is the one of the biggest problems. It appears Capers follows Pendry's lead rather than the other way around.

You don't even know who my "favorite players" are since I generally don't talk about guys in that manner. I just talk about the better players and the players I don't consider good....I don't really have many favorites because I don't worship them. I love the Texans but honestly...I really don't care who the players are outside if they are doing a good job or bad job. I'll defend any of the guys who get a bad rap before they have had time to prove their worth on the field or because someone is bashing them due to injury though. You can count on that.

There is a lot of evidence to support your position. That said, CC is the GM so he should be one of the guys jumping on (or being thrown on) the grenade in our foxhole.

:texflag: If you read about Lombardi ... he walked into a team which had been bad for awhile . That being said they had alot of players who were talented but had no direction . Vince took this accumalation of talent and made one heck of a team .

yeah, but "leadership" and ability to "inspire" players is sooooo over-rated.

...at least, that's what I've been told! :ok:

ps. I agree with you.
