The Falcons had almost the same number of sacks as the Texans in 2004. Vick (Mexico) moves around and often into as much trouble has runs out of with a "great" play. The best QB in the pocket are guys like Brady and Manning who step one way or the other and focus on releasing the ball quickly.
While stuck here in Cowboy country I get to see Bledsoe. Bledsoe looks really good in the games where he has near perfect protection and he gets the ball out quickly. If things breakdown even a little bit he is not the same Qb. IMO, Carr shows a lot of the same characteristics as Bledsoe. Carr better runner, but pressure seems to have the same effect on his game.

I absolutely agree that as rare as pockets are, Carr does not take full advantage of them and more often, doesn't take advantage of room on the field to maneuver as some other QB's. Either way, it is a question of feeling the pressure. Carr tends to go from stopped to full flight for the sidelines. I would like to see him step up, then bail, then stop, then cut back, then head for the sideline. Not literally on every play, but you get the point.

I just think it's odd that the team didn't have this high of a meltdown until about two quarters into the Cleveland game last season.
Since then, NOTHING has been what it was. We were holding teams to ZERO TDs, bashing Tennessee twice, crushing Jacksonville twice, etc.
The team last season looked cohesive and unified even though it took the last part of the season to really come alive.
And now? It just goes up in smoke? Will the real David Carr step up? Will the real offensive line step up? Will the real playcalling step up?
Which is the real Texans team? The one that seemingly came on so strong last season that a playoff run was predicted by most NFL analysts, or the one that is making last year's team llok like a fake and a fraud?
I'll say it again: Even though the line is and has always been known to be shaky compared to other playoff-caliber teams, and we all agree to it, you have to admit that Carr was getting the job done. DD was getting the job done. Dunta was getting the job done. Fast forward and look at it now: DD is getting the job done. Dunta is getting the job done. But Carr AND the o line are NOT getting the job done. Hmmmmmmmmmm.....
It's just 50-50: 50% Carr because he won't admit to his own poor play, as well as the fact that he's used the media to slap the other WRs in the face, and 50% o line because they have obviously lost any ability to care about leaving the guy standing up at the end of a play.
There's bad blood in H-Town, and there just needs to be a good old fashioned Come to Jesus Meeting where the whole team eats each other out and gets it out of their system.

Actually this team has been struggling to pass the ball for about the last 12 -13 weeks and this stretch is long and ugly. The last 12 games the passing totals were 215, 164, 201, 157, 167, 220, 131, 114, 70, 167, 174, and 131 yards with a collective average of 159 yards per game. My opinion: THAT'S the whole reason you're not able to place a ball neatly in any other receiver's hands, David (example: Mathis was wide open and you overthrew him by about 10 yards. Bradford was wide open and you overthrew him by 5-10 yards...he leapt for it, but he had his man beat easily. You've gotten used to AJ bailing the team out and making your life easier. Period. Here's a concept: When you DO have time, stop hopping up and down 20 times in the pocket, go through your progressions and throw the ball to SOMEBODY. Anybody. Seriously, just fire it into somebody's general direction. You can't have the elastic boy wonder stretch high in the air for your miracle lobs every game and expect to win consistently. I hated to see AJ pull those miracle lobs down in those few games last year because I KNEW it was getting you all hyped up about the possibilities of just repeating that every game. AJ is NOT the answer. And you saying this sort of thing just makes you and our team appear to be one dimentional. You have had more success tossing it to DD than you have AJ. And that's because he's five yards away from you, and doesn't require you to focus on NFL QB attributes, such as "timing," and "accuracy."

My opinion: THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS OUT THERE, DAVID!!!! It's not hard to throw the ball down the field, David. You're showing you can do that. But it is hard, for you David, to place the ball in a spot where the WR can make a play on the ball. The two speediest guys you have out there are being overthrown on almost all deep passes. I suggest you work on YOUR timing a little bit. You missed Bradford for an easy TD, and you missed Mathis for an easy TD down the sideline. Oh, but I forgot: Without our lord and savior St. Andre Johnson, the patron saint of miracle catches, we just don't have much of a chance out there.

I can't get to my thread from the TB preseason game, but his postgame quote after that game was more or less this: "I'm just excited to play the Bills next week when these games count for real..."
This guy might look good in a photo shoot, and he might look like an NFL QB in the pads and jersey, but he is not sounding like a smart guy right now.

He is bailing out and copping out, and crying because he's got a tough road...and it's just as if he thinks he's the only one who's 0-4 right now and everyone owes it to him to catch balls that are overthrown, batted in the air, or thrown at their feet.
Go ahead, Carr backers: Help me to see where his PRINTED comments show that he's being unjustly roasted. Help me to see how he has been a "real" leader on the field when he can't confront his blockers or can't confront a WR when they drop a good pass. All you can do is cry about the o line, which he doesn't have the guts to confront on the field in front of the 20,000 fans that are now watching this mess of a team. Maybe he isn;t confronting them on the field because deep down he knows that he's making equally bad plays as they are. He's got time on roughly 50% of the pass plays and he's only at about 57% completion %.
Oh, please, oh please AJ! Get healed and get back out there. We've missed your spectacular plays and miracle catches! You and Carr are the only hope we have! Even if you can limp out there, that's enough. Until you come back, we just don't have ANY way to throw (oops, I mean: LOB) the ball out there.
What a raw deal Carr is giving his other WRs and his RBs. As if he and AJ are the team and it begins and ends with those two guys. Get Ragone out there, I bet he'll throw bullets to Gaffney and other WRs. I bet he won;t give a rip if AJ is out there or not.

I just want to concur with this message in its every aspect. We have rolled over for David Carr for too long, making excuses for his poor play, lack of accuracy (esp in the first two years when Dirt was his favorite target), lack of "pocket presence," inability to avoid the rush at least some of the time, etc. etc. He is NOT the QB of anybody's future.

This sounds fimiliar. I think I remember posting almost the EXACT same thing on one of my Carr-Bashing rants a few weeks ago. Someone check that out for me. Anyway, gpshafer, I hear exactly what your saying. I'm very excited to watch ESPN all day and see how much Carr gets ripped for being a sub-standard QB. Stay strong in the struggle for changing this QB lineup!
