Carr with bonus is $13.25 M this year?

Nighthawk

Rookie
Is this right or is somebody spooking me? Is it like $5.25 M for the year and 1/3 of the 8 M bonus, ie $7.85 M this year? One of you capologists re-explain this, please.

Carr's cap number for '06 is about $7.25 million. $5.25 mil in salary + $2 mil in bonus allocation. The Texans were able to push $2 million of the option bonus onto the '05 cap.

Wow is that tom brady tupe of money:stirpot: hey david is worth every penny.

BTW Tom Brady got a $60+ million deal, so Carr is no where near his kind of money (or Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb, Daunte Culpepper, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Alex Smith, Michael Vick, and probably a couple others).

Nor should he be.

With this extension, Carr is now on his way to fulfilling his original base deal of 7 years - 46 million, not including those mysterious not-often-publicized and difficult to identify incentives which could bring the total value closer to $60 million.

Carr's contract is not that much different from Eli's and Alex Smith's. Their contracts are slightly higher because of higher bonuses and salary creep over the two or three years that passed between when Carr was drafted in '02 and when they signed their deals. So if you're playing the "which two don't belong" game in the list above it would be Eli and Alex, mainly because they are still early in their rookie deals.

Guys like Peyton, Culpepper, Palmer, McNabb and Vick signed mega extensions that put them on an entirely different level, although Carr actually made more money than Vick in their respective first three years of their contracts.

Car gets his $5.5 mil salary, + his $8 million bonus this year. the Texans will pay him $13.5 million to play this year. That is Brady/McNabb/Manning kinda money, but he'll only get that this year. Next year, he will play for $6 million, or something like that. Cap wise, they spread the bonus out over 4 years, including 2005, since they reserved $2million of cap space precisely for this reason.

But yes, this year, Carr will get a $13.5 million Dollar check to play Quarterback.

No, he'll actually get half the bonus now, the rest in the '07 offseason.

Not true. He will get $5.5 + 4 = 9.5 this year and the other 4 next year (07).

I THINK the team for cap purposes, is able to expense 2 mill on the 05 cap and spread the rest out over the next 3 years, so basicaly a 2 mill cap hit each year for the extension. Good money, but nowhere near Payton Manning and Tom Brady type of dollars. In fact it's a bit less than Alex Smith and Eli Manning are getting under their contracts.

Aren't at leat a couple of those QB's on their 2nd contract, which was based upon some sort of merit they actually earned?

You beat me to it, Mike Vick really didn't deserve to go to the Probowl and if he played in the AFC he certainly wouldn't be going. As we speak he just threw a INT.

What is Mike vick doing in the pro bowl... I think he's just widely popular. His stats are unimpressive if you look at the passing stats, but he is exciting to watch. I am totally shocked that Carr's bonus is that big... he hasnt proven anything yet, if he really is taht bad then this could kill our team down the road

How exactly does someone get into the ProBowl??

Does it have anything to do with votes from Fans, Coaches, and Players?? Or is it strictly stat driven??

Look, you may not like what Michael Vick does, but if you don't think he helps his team win, play's solid football, and is entertaining to boot, then you should understand you are in the minority. Your opinion is totally against the Majority of coaches, players, and fans.....

Not exactly the same as having an opinion different from Dan Reeves... Charlie Casserly.... Bob McNair... & Gary Kubiak.... but just as wrong, in the same manor.

When he's allowed to run around he helps his team win, but his legs can only carry him so far and as each year passes he is going to be asked to become more of a QUARTERBACK and pass the ball. He has to start winning games with his arm.

Actually i think they give you the W whether you win it with your arm or your legs....that playoff run to the nfc championship game? yep...did that with his legs. Would you take it?

And one side point? Why try to force vick into a traditional mold? Why not play to his strengths....he wins that way.

Yeah and what happened when he got to the NFC championship......huh, the eagles forced him to pass and he couldn't.

I'm not trying to force him into a traditional mold, injuries (you know like the ones he's suffered over the past few years) and father time will do that, ala Steve Mcnair. As time goes on he is going to have to become a passer. Teams have learned how to game plan against Vick, you put a spy on him and force him to stay in the pocket and dare him to beat you with his arm, until he does he isn't going to have much success, especially in the division he plays in, Tampa Bay supplied the NFL the Blue Print on how to beat him and it looks like they have come back and Carolina is a smart and gritty football team with a great head coach

I'm pretty sure teams have figured out how to play against Peyton Manning... Kurt Warner, Jake Plummer..... I may be wrong, but they may finally get David Carr's number next year......... tattoed on their arm.

Did Randall Cunningham ever slow down??

I agree with you 100%. trust me...... I am not a Michael Vick Fan. But Vince.. Vince is different from Vick, in that right now, he is a better passer than Vick. 10 years from now, he'll be a better passer than Vick.

seeing how the Colts had the best record in the AFC......uh no, Manning just hasn't done very good in the playoffs, but then again you could argue he plays in the AFC and has lost to the eventual superbowl champs the past 3 years.

Kurt Warner is washed up and is a bad example.

Jake Plummer....are you kidding me, ha ha ha he is called Jake the Mistake for a reason, but then again he too lost to the superbowl champs.

Also yes Randall did slow down and never really won anything, come to think of it I don't remember the last time a running Quarterback won anything, although McNair came close, but didn't reach the height of his game until he became a pocket passer, the same could be said about Mcnabb

I'm not comparing Vince to Mike, I don't like to do that, I give all players the benifit of the doubt and let them make their own mark, I hope Vince goes on to do great things and will root for him no matter what team he goes to

There are a lot more pocket passers that didn't win the SuperBowl, than mobile Quarterbacks that have. Bret Favre, Joe Montana, and Steve Young are QBs that aren't really pocket passers, they aren't running QBs either, but I think they are in the same evolutionary chain as McNabb, Culpepper, Cunningham, and Vick.

What agenda are you trying to push with that stretch?

Great decision by Vick to chuck the ball up while getting sacked...he's lucky Fitz went up and got it.

might not always be pretty...but his team won, and at the end of the day, that still matters right?

Carr deserves every bit of that bonus. Name a another player on the Texan's roster that took the beating he did and it was all without a single winning season. He paid a heavy price when becoming the first Texan's QB, and I admire him for that.

I am sure that he would have been more successful in Detroit than Harrington. The Texan's would have started rebuilding the team two years ago if we had Harrington. So I say Carr may not be worth the money now, but we did not pay him enough to endure the early years; therfore this bonus is really just catching up money in my eyes.

BTW My opinion about Vick never leading a team to the SB is still on the table.
opinion #1: Qb's who can't throw don't win SB's.
opinion #2: By removing a viable threat of a passing game Vick has reduced the offense by 25%. The defense can focus on the running game, with an occasional pass to Crumpler.

Did anyone hear Theisman's comment when Vick threw up that pass to Chamber's? Theisman sounded so $tup1d when he said those are the kind of throws Vick wants to make more often. That pass was almost intercepted.

Anyway, I say good for Carr.

Well, looks like Harrington is getting another shot in Detroit. I actually watched Joey @ Oregon State, & I thought he would be successful in the NFL. I think he is more of a playmaker than Carr, and throws better on the run. He would have probably done better here. But we'll never know the answers to those questions. But $13 million dollars sounds like a lot of money to a small town boy like me. Especially for a guy who pats the ball, leaves the pocket early, run out of bouds with the ball, stares down one reciever, and hasn't shown much initiative....

But the question is, can you find a better QB for $13 million to start in 2006?? I personally don't think you can. And I'd rather go in to next season spending $13 million to keep Carr on the roster, than $1 million to start Banks.

So vick took the falcons the nfc championship and that is not good enough:lol: but you have some Teams with poor poor QB that have never even sniffed the playoff.

SOME OF YOU HOMERS ARE JUST TO FUNNY.

Just to clarify any confusion, Joey Harrington went to Oregon.

Until proven otherwise, I think Peyton is the best in the league right now. My post was in response to another post stating that teams will eventually figure out Vince Young.

The Saints figured him out in his prime. When he still dominated the game.

I'm not the one comparing Carr to Jake. But if the NFL defenses can figure out Jake, they'll figure out Carr.... that is if the comparison is like the Carr fans say it is.

Drew Bledsoe never won anything..... Warren Moon ain't never won anything... Dan Marino never won anything either. So according to this logic, we shouldn't draft anyone who fit those molds......

My point here, is that NFL defenses will figure out the best of the best.. that's not a good argument against Vince.

Hello everyone, as a Falcon fan, I want to respond to the ones who are talking about Vick. I'm not here to say Vick is the best QB. He is far from it. He has a lot of work to do in the passing game and I do see him becoming a better passer. I think the one thing people tend to forget about Vick is that he has been through two head coaches, two offense of systems and missed a year b/c of a broken fibula. Not making excuses for him but in a sinse, he did have to start over with Greg Knapp being the O.C. As far as David Carr is a concerned. I really like him alot. I watched him play last year (for the first time) and I must say I saw a lot of good things from him despite the Texans record. But I just don't see how you can clown Vick. Vick has been to the playoffs and that is more than what this organization as a whole can say. Now you can sit here and say Vick isn't a QB all you want but put Vick and Carr's record together and tell me who you still want as your QB.

ps And for those that are going to say the Carr has nothing to work with, well neither does Vick.

pl32 if you think the Falcons as a whole is just as bad as the Texans as a whole it is true you have not seen many of our games. Either way most people do not compare Carr and Vick they are comparing Vick and Vince Young. If you want to put your input on that as far as what ya think be my guess, it should be interesting coming from another team's fan.

If I recall, a lot of your games were only lost by like a touchdown or so. As for the Falcons, I think we were worse than what our record said. Even though we finished 8-8, we played like a 2-14 team during the second half of the season. I was very upset with the Falcons this past year but I I know it will get better.

As for comparing Vince Young and Vick, I think you can only do that after Young has been in the leaguea a couple of years. There is know doubt in my mind he will be a great QB wherever he ends up. In fact he was much better in college than Vick was. I look foward to watching him play. I look foward to watching Reggie Bush in a Texans uniform (that is who I think y'all will pick) and wathing the explosion your offence is capable of.

for the rest of us, can you highlight some of those things you saw in Carr??

1: he's got a strong arm
2: he's tough as nails

those are the obvious ones. What does a fan like yourself see??

If we could trade straight up......... even stevens......... Carr for Vick, would you do it??

Those where the two obvious ones. I didn't realize how fast he was when he had to scramble. He can really move (not like he had much of a choice). I'm sorry, but anybody that can hang and take the beating Carr did and get back up and proceed to the next book has my respect. Over all, I think you guys have a good QB in Carr, you just have to fix the pass protection for him just like the Falcons need to. I'm sorry, but we (Falcons) had no pass protection at all. That along with Reggie Bush should help take some preasure off Carr so you he can get it to Andre Johnson.
