I just dont understand why Hollings stays on the roster when we could have cut him had 3 RBs and 6 WRs with Sloan Thomas one of them , somone explain this to me please

I think Grid explained it quite well in another thread .....

Well lets see.

Davis has gone down for at least one game every year. SO if Davis was to go down.. Lets say Morency goes in. Ok so Morency is in.. and lets say something happens to Norris and Wells has to start at FB.

We now have NO DEPTH at FB or RB. If either of these guys go down we have NO ONE to replace them. With just TWO injuries you are out of depth.

Thats why Hollings needed to stay. Well..thats not why Hollings needed to stay..but thats why we needed a 4th RB on the roster. Personally I would have preffered we let him go and got someone else off the waiver wire.

My guess is maybe they really are talking with someone about trading him. I don't see how the team could keep this guy with some of the other players available right now, unless they're planning on moving him.

i cant figure it out either...i mean, who is better....hollings or swinton?? last time i checked, swinton did some good things for us like catch a TD pass from carr and return one on special teams. if that isnt good enough to get u a spot over hollings, then what is??!! i mean, cmon! we dont need hollings. we already have a stacked backfield with DD, j. wells, and v. morency.

Maybe they see something in Hollings we all don't, hmm, makes you wonder though. Personally I'd rather have Sloan on the roster than Hollings. Just wish we could see Hollings play with the 1st team offense, might give us a better picture of how good or bad he is. He obviously sucks playing with the 2nd and 3rd teamers.

That still doesnt make sense , the chances of Davis , Morency and Norris going down is astronomical , whats the difference then in saying ok we just lost Bradford and Gaffney and Armstrong too in juries whos gonna be our 3rd ?

and yes left Johnson out on porpose dont want to jinx us lol

I know I missed the last game, but I keep trying to figure out what Sloan Thomas has done(beside being a longhorn) to warrant 36 hours or so of love. Unless i am mistaken, all of his yards have come against spares many of whom are looking for jobs in the real world.

As for the people not understanding about the possibilities of injury. Lets see DomDavis was out because of an ankle injury, Wells missed the entire pre-season, and Morency rushed 16 carries and 38 yards or so when he played in the first half of a game instead against the waiver wire defenders.

Yeah, it is way farfetched that the Texans might need a fourth Rb.

Consider.. for a moment.. that we are talking about RBs. RBs get injured..often. Davis has missed at least one game every season.

Morency.. we really dont know much about him yet.. but he is a Rookie so you cannot put complete faith in him.

Wells has already had surgery on his hand this preseason.

It is not off the wall to assume that you may need a solid amount of depth at the RB/FB position.

And btw.. roster cuts arent like draft day. You arent looking for BPA.. you are trying to build a solid team with sufficient depth. Sometimes you have to release a more talented player at one position, so that you can take a NECESSARY player at another.

We should be happy that we had so many good players at WR that we could afford to drop Swinton and Mathis. Personally, i dont understand the need for Bradford either.. but I trust the coaches on that.

We MIGHT need 4 RBs, but the odds seem a bit long. Might be over compensating at RB to the detriment of the WR corp and talent pool development.

5 WRs is a pretty normal amount to carry. The Texans have carried 5 Wrs often over the last three years many times including JJ Moses.

I can understand what yo are saying about Hollings, but we need productivity and was getting it from Swinton.

IF we ever really need a 4th RB, I think Swinton and Thomas would have been better at it than Hollings anyway, lol. :)

Sad thing is you are probably right .... lol

Keep in mind when you say "4 RBs" you are really talking about 3 RBs and an RB/FB hybrid.

If Norris goes down we are at the "normal" 3 RB depth. If we didnt have Hollings we would be at 2 RBs if Norris went down.. and if Davis goes down (which he has a tendency to do up to this point) we are down to 1 RB and 1 FB.

the need for a 4th RB isnt "being safe".. its necessity. If we didnt have Hollings we would have to sign someone else.. or keep Jason Anderson on the active roster.

I would have preffered we got someone else.. but oh well. We will have to live with Hollings and hope that he sees NO playing time.

I think we are going to see either Wells, Hollings or Morency about 25% of the time. DD is a great back, but is injury prone. Davis can't carry the ball 30 times a game. He won't make the season if he tries.

I understand why they kept Hollings, even if he is a medicore RB.

Also, what are the chances that Sloan Thomas makes any kind of impact this season? How many times have we gone with 5 WR sets, let alone 6?
Hollings at least has played special teams and such. Not defending the decison, personnally I would have prefered Swinton to be kept, after all Mathis is unproven and a rookie (might be nerous= fumbles) and I don't really want to see our starting corner get hit by too many 250 lb. linbackers....

I think Hollings has naked pictures of someone in the front office personally. That's the only answer I can come up with to explain his apparently sacred roster spot. Sloan Thomas should own that spot and Tony Hollings should be looking for a job today.

i was very irritated when i read that they cut both thomas and swinton. If we did get those 3 injures. Theres always Walker thats working at FB and with our running scheme, we dont need a FB most of the time, mainly at the goal line. If worse comes to worse, there are plently of free agents that will perform better than hollings. And im sure they wouldnt mind cutting someone mid-season if they aren't producing or doing their job.

Yes it is very fustrating as a fan to look and wonder, who goes or stays, Sloan has made great improvement, and worked very hard this past training camp and preseason, as for Tony he has been injury prone, I do hope he can stay healthy, this year and prove us all wrong at the end of the season why we kept him. But being a true Texan fan I will support Tony and cheer for him, hopefully he will have a great season.

did casserly burn a high second-rond draft pick on either swinton or thomas?

of course not.

you're being "bush"-ed- the emperor casserly is defining reality for you. hollings couldn't make a single roster in the NFL- there is no "trade" looming in my opinion.

I think it has to do with how we acquired him. They are going to give him every opportunity to prove himself since they wasted a 2nd rounder on him.

He has shown some explosiveness on screen passes, but I have yet to see him with a decent run in his two seasons. Perhaps he is one of those players that looks great in practice and it hasn't translated onto the field. I would imagine this year is his last chance though.

I am tripping on this whole situation but I am starting to see it both ways. I mean would could make the same argument about some of the DBs we kept like Lewis.
