why would we want to get a TE we dont effectively use the ones we have, ok we have established they can block somewhat at least better than o line and bruener was brought in because he can block and catch so the logical thing is use him in both ways block and catch i understand that is a new concept for this 0-coordinator but come on the titans eat us up with a TE and seems like other teams do the same,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The Texans are augering. Something has to be done en toto. This isn't any single position like TE. We need a complete overhaul of the team.

We need to draft a big TE who can catch, someone in the mold of Erron Kinney (6'5'' 275). If not, we should use a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick on Tim Day (Oregon, 6'4'', 265) or Leonard Pope (Georgia, 6'7'' 255). I've played TE all my life and is my positition of specialty if you will so I think these 2 guys will be good in the NFL. As much as Capers doesn't want to admit it, WE NEED A PASS CATCHING TE!!! Who did Steve McNair go to in the red zone and on 3rd down? Troupe and Kinney. We need some blocking help, so Bruener helps out now, but adding another threat on offense needs to happen.

All we have to do is look at our first season to see we need a pass catching TE. We waived the second leading receiver, I believe, in team career receptions. If you want a guy to slow blitzes, a big guy with good hands that takes up a safety does a good job. When Brees came to life last year, who was his target of choice? Does anyone remember Gates eating our lunch in the season opener last year? Who was the guy Carr looked to first all the time in his rookie year while he was being pummelled? Anyone saying that Miller isn't lighting it up in Cleveland looked at that team? Miller was a team leader and would be a huge help to us now if he were here.
Of course we also waived 3 other starters on defense. We also let Jeff Posey, the only player in team history to get 8 sacks in a season, go to Buffalo for nothing. We also cut Steve Foley, an all-pro now for the Chargers. Our coaches are fools as well as our GM.

How is he able to walk with all the injuries he's had? It sucks, because he had abunch of potential but injuries have lead to his demise. I did alittle research on TEs in the draft who should be taken after round 1 and this is what I came up with:
TIM DAY, TE, Oregon: About 6'5'' 270 pounds with a 4.7 40 time. He is athletic enough to stretch the field and challenge most safties and strong enough to run over people and be a solid blocker. His biggest concern and his downfall has been injuries. He played through most of 2004 injured. He's a great talent who can do it all, just has problems staying healthy. Project at 3rd - 4th round.
LEONARD POPE, TE, Georgia: Around 6'7'' 255 pounds and runs about a 4.7 40. Very productive, in 9 games, allready has 482 yards with 6 TDs. Tall player, great red zone threat and very good hands for someone his size. Not an amazing blocker, but not a liability in the run game. Would give us more help in the red zone and could be a good safety valve for Carr. Projected at 2nd round.
JOE KLOPFENSTEIN, TE, Colorado: Good size at 6'6'' 245 and quick at 4.6. Not a good blocker but his value is in his receiving skills. A great safety valve and a dangerous threat in the passing game. Would strecth the field better than Billy Miller did, but wouldn't be a much better blocker. Projected at 4th round.
ANTHONY FASANO, TE, Notre Dame: Decent size at 6'5'' 257 pounds and abotu a 4.7 - 4.8 40 Time. Very soft hands and a good solid target. Not fast enough to challenge safties all the time, but a smart receiver who can find the soft spots. Decent blocking skills. Could be a player that could do both blocking and receiving for us. Projected at 4th round.
Overall, I think Tim Day would be a gamble, but would be an amazing player who could block and stretch the field. Leonard Pope would be a great player too, but might go too high for us. Fasano seems like an underdog like Chris Cooley was 2 years ago. Klop is probably too much of a receiver for us, but is also a possibility. Like I said, any questions about TEs, let me know.
