LEFTWICH DONE FOR THE YEAR?



A league source says Jacksonville quarterback Byron Leftwich could be done for the year after suffering an injury in Sunday's loss to the Texans.



The source didn't specify the injury, but another league insider tells us that Leftwich was limping on Monday.



The Tuesday edition of the Florida Times-Union reports that Leftwich suffered a left leg injury on Sunday shortly before halftime, and that he went back into the game on his own after missing only a couple of plays.



"I was scared in the beginning, but it was something I got over quickly,'' Leftwich said. "I'll be healthy by the next game."



The Jaguars are off this weekend. They next play the Lions, on November 14.



If the 5-3 Jags lose Leftwich, the starter will be David Garrard, a player whom some in the organization think has greater potential than Leftwich, since the second-year pro from Marshall has limited mobility. Garrard is scheduled to become a restricted free agent after the season.



In a prior edition of this here story, we said that Garrard will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. As Bart Hubbuch of the Florida Times-Union told us in a Tuesday morning e-mail, however, Garrard has one more year before he can walk. With that said, Hubbuch anticipates that the Jags will trade Garrard after the 2004 season.



But we don't see eye-to-eye on everything with Bart. He tells us that the story that Leftwich is hurt is "WAY off the mark." We'll stand by our report for now, but we'll keep digging for more info.

I hate to see a team lose a starter, even a div foe but this might help us out come dec 26th in Jacksonville.
 
Isn't that website a bunch of Jacksonville homers? Maybe the teal coloring makes me suspicious, but anyway rumors can go either way.
 
Everyone at the Jags MB thinks that article is a bunch of BS. They think if Byron was really done for the season, Del Rio and the public would have known by now.

They are holding their breath now. There are reports that Byron is visiting some sort of ACL expert today. They are crossing their fingers and holding their breaths right now at the Jags MB. Some are thinking the news might be REALLY bad. Just found this.

Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich might miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee in last Sunday's 20-6 loss to the Houston Texans.

Leftwich is in Birmingham, Ala., today to have his injured leg examined by sports orthopedist James Andrews, and the Jaguars said they expect to update Leftwich's condition today or Wednesday.

If Leftwich is unable to finish the season, backup David Garrard would take over. The Jaguars (5-3) have a bye this week before returning to play host to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Nov. 14.

Leftwich was dispatched to see Andrews by his agent, Tom Condon, after developing pain late Monday afternoon.

Leftwich was hurt just before halftime on a high-low tackle by Texans linebacker Kailee Wong and defensive lineman Gary Walker, a former Jaguar. Leftwich missed two plays before putting himself back in the game -- without input from the coaching staff, according to coach Jack Del Rio -- and finished the contest.

Leftwich said immediately after the game that he would be fine, but experienced problems the next day.

Leftwich has a history of leg injuries dating to his college career at Marshall

Its not that. We have a lot of fans in Jacksonville who dont like Leftwich. They come up with this stuff all the time to make it seem like Garrard is going to play. Wishful thinking on their part and a direct result of their ignorance of football. Why they would not want Leftwich starting is beyond me.

If this is not what it is about, then I guess it is true. However I agree someone would have broken that story by now.
 
Where are some of the Jags fans getting that on the play that Byron got injured G Funk took a cheap shot at Byron?
 
Well, looks like the Leftwich thing may be true. I think we did lose him for the year. We will still play as hard as we can, but this may mean you guys gotta go out there and keep this division outta the hands of the Colts or Titans. We Jag's fans will still pull for our team, but we would rather see you ugys get it than the Dolts or Tacks. Good luck on Sunday!
 
Wow!...if true.

I find it interesting to note that we really do not wish any ill will towards opposing players...but during the game, we compare football to war and we make thunder when our defender gets a good blindside smack on the enemy QB, even taking him out of the game. Then we run home to watch ESPN, and they have the "Jacked Up!" segment showing extremely violent hits from the weekend's games.

It reminds me of the George Carlin bit (about Football vs. Baseball):

"In football, during the game in the stands, you can be sure that at least twenty-seven times you're capable of taking the life of a fellow human being."

We put the fan in fanatic! ;)
 
We know the feeling, and it isn't a good one. Too bad he'll out for the Dec 26th game, I like the Carr-Leftwich rivalry thats developing.

Good luck the rest of the season, hopefully Garrard can keep things together (but still finish behind the Texans)

He didn't get hit that hard actually. Walker hit him low and Babin (I think) hit him high and made him fall on his leg funny.
 
Thats truely bad news for the Jag's . I remember the hit that sent him to the sidelined , he got hit high from the left side and low from the front . Nothing "Dirty" just the pocket collapsed on both sides at once . Didnt look like he twisted anything on the way down but he was in obvious pain after the play .
On the up-side the Jag's Offense didnt look any different with Garrard in than Leftwich . He was 2/2 in completions i believe . The announcers didnt even notice when Leftwich came back in (neither did I) . Looks like the Jag's offense will be in capable hands .
 
All the Jag fans out there shouldn't be too depressed. David Garrard looked like a stud out there for 2 snaps.

Of course we were probably calling defensive sets for running plays since you usually get a backup QB time to get used to playing before making him throw, but he looks like a damn fine backup to me.
 
Garrard is a good QB...I saw him play @ ECU (u get alot of those games with UH being in the CUSA). I remember the Houston Bowl game he had vs. Texas Tech...he was amazing in that game...he's like a inexperienced version of Steve McNair.
 
I think Garrard will do fine in Leftwich's absence. The Jaguars will most likely trade him in the offseason, so he could up his value while he is in. Unfortunately, if he does succeed, it will only give more ammo to the anti-Leftwich "fans" down here.

By the way, the Texans played a great game this past weekend. Good luck the rest of the way. Until we meet again!
 
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich will miss four to six weeks with a torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee, ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting.

Leftwich, who was injured in Sunday's 20-6 loss to Houston, went to Birmingham, Ala., on Tuesday to seek the opinion of sports orthopedist James Andrews after preliminary examinations on Monday showed possible ligament damage.

The Jaguars said they expected to make an official announcement on Leftwich's condition Tuesday or Wednesday.

Big development in the AFC South. Garrad had a great camp last year but had that stomach virus this year. It will be intresting what happens. The Colts game in two weeks just got magnified in importance...
 
Heard something saying its been re-evaluated as a sprain and he'll only miss a week? Not really a credible source, but that's what I read by a Jags poster on the kffl board.
 
Garrard is much more mobile than Leftwich. He brings another element into the Jag offense. Jacksonville wins/loses on defense usually. Had Stroud or Henderson gone down, it would have had more of an impact. With 5 home games left, the Jags are still in the playoff hunt (along with 9 other AFC teams).
 
All I want is W's on the scoreboard. I could care less if our opponent puts a girl scout troop on the field. Winning is all that matters at the end of the day. ;)

Funny thing is everyone is tip-toeing around the subject, but the sports update on 610 AM broke the story in with "Good news for the Texans!!..."

Not that I'm at all happy that one of our division opponents is quite a bit weaker for the next 4-6 weeks.... :whistle:
 
Brett Farve had the same injury and only sat out a bye week and the next week after that.. just depends... I wouldn't count him out for our Dec. meeting just yet..

Much worse than a stomach virus. Was Chrones Disease. He seems to be doing well now tho.
 
As fired up as I get about whippin' up on the Jags, I really do hate to see this happen to Leftwich. :goodbad: He's a gutty guy, looked like he was really hurting after he came back in on Sunday. I remember the highlights of him playing at Marshall on his gimpy ankle(?) when his linemen were actually carrying him downfield after every play. Quite an image.

If he was on a few other teams he would be starting... Cards, Bears, Raiders come to mind :twocents: The titans were quite impressed when he played against them a couple years ago, when he went in for Mark...

It was a leg fracture... he left the game went to have x-rays and then came back on the field after he got back to the stadium..

Jay Glazer, of Fox Sports, reports on Foxsports.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich (knee) met with Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., early Tuesday, Nov. 2, to get a better look at the injured knee. Initial thoughts were that Leftwich will not need surgery and the team remains hopeful that this diagnosis will hold up. Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said that he will list Leftwich as either questionable or doubtful for now, but does not have to make a decision on his official status for more than a week, due to the Bye week. Del Rio added that Leftwich played with the injury during Week 8 and said to the coach that he will be able to start in Week 10. "It's something you want to be careful with, but I don't think it will be that long," Del Rio said of the four-to-six week prognosis. "In fact Byron said he feels he can be ready after the bye. However, we won't rush him if he's not ready."

ESPN news reports he could be out 4-6 weeks so IDK believe what you want and we'll see... Thought you guys would wanna know.

This is no treat for the Jaguars -- only a trick. Quarterback Byron Leftwich is out indefinitely after spraining his lateral collateral ligament in his left knee in Jacksonville's 20-6 loss against the Texans in Houston. Leftwich finished the game but was examined by an orthopedist this week. Jacksonville's backup, David Garrard, who has thrown just 60 passes in his three-year NFL career, will take over as the starter. Leftwich will not undergo surgery at this time, but the timetable for his return is not set yet either.


I GUESS THAT IS GONNA HURT THE JAGS A LIL BIT FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON "i never wish anyone to be hurt but this is really good for us in trying to take the top of the division" HOPEFULLY WE CAN JUST KEEP WINNING ON A CONSISTENT ENOUGH BASIS TO KEEP THE RACE CLOSE TO WHERE IT GOES DOWN TO DECEMBER THE EASIEST LOOKING PART OF OUR SCHEDULE !!!!
 
Thats really tough for them,I also never want to see someones starting QB go down....well except for Joe Montana way back in the Luv Ya Blue days when he played aganist the Oilers in a playoff game at the astrodome....I would have given anything for someone to take him out that day....I knew he would come back and get a win....and he did.
 
Put it this way, even with one week off, if he continues to play with an unhealed fracture, he WILL irritate it again....You need more then a week to heal something like that....So by the time he plays us in december, he won't be in very good shape, and i don't expect him to even be playing at all by then if he continues this....Oh yes he may be tough and be able to play a few games with his leg now, but its a matter of time before he gets hit again....
 
I'm sorry he is hurt. I would think they'd do the smart thing and make sure he's well before he plays again.
 
Historically the Jags haven't shown they understand medical things very well. Probably be dumb enough to have Lefty go out and play and wind up shortning his carreer.

The fracture was in college not in the game from Sunday... what happen Sunday was a knee strain... not a tear or anything that will require surgery...
 
I'm sure they'll take extra care to make sure he's fine when he returns. The doctor that looked at him is one of the top doctors in the whole country.
