Bush deal updates

as per a part of an ESPN Insider article by Todd Mcshay of Scouts Inc. titled "McShay's 'True' Buzz: Texans not so torn"

Bush remains Texans' preferred choice

Just so everyone is clear; the investigation of alleged illegal benefits provided to former USC running back Reggie Bush and his family is a prevalent college football story, but it will have no bearing on Bush's draft stock.

If Bush is not the first overall player selected in Saturday's draft, it will have everything to do with a failed negotiation between his agent, Joel Segal, and the Texans' front office. After all, what does Texans general manager Charley Casserly care if Bush and his family were living rent-free for the past 12 months?

The Texans continue to play leverage games by keeping contract talks open with NC State defensive end Mario Williams, but Bush is the player the Texans have targeted and continue to target with the top choice. According to what we're hearing, Bush could have a deal done with the Texans by Friday afternoon.

Dan Pompeo of Sporting News was just on Cold Pizza and said that the Texans and Bush started serious negotiations yesterday and look to get a deal done by fri. he also said that mario williams was considered but Bush was pretty much their man all along. he said looks like the Texans are gonna get their man.

So much for Bush holding out of camp. What ever $$ he misses out on because of his parents he should deduct that from the value of the house he intended on getting the in the first place. My guess though is that it'll still be a very nice house.

This is good news. I would like to be able to buy my Reggie Bush Jersey ahead of time and focus on what we get with our 2nd rounder and the chance of getting Dave Thomas.

Well, let's hope this is true. Either way, even if they don't have a deal in place, I say take him. We have 3-4 months before we have to sign him. :yahoo:

I have to discount the article because McShay insists that Mario Williams is a "leverage game." Defensive staff is going to war for drafting Williams and obviously the offensive staff wants Bush, and Kubiak and Casserly are caught in between and will probably end up making the ultimate call. If Williams can significantly underbid Bush or if other unexpected problems arise with either player, that is going to make a difference at this point.

Not saying that we won't draft Bush -- because at the end of the day I still think we will -- but it's hardly a done deal, even aside from the negotiations aspect.

I never thought i'd see the day but I agree with you. I don't think Bush will be that easy to sign but I do see the Texans drafting him.

Where do you project Dave at? I saw 2nd pick in the 3rd

I agree. Rich on Sports Radio 610 makes seems like the end of the world if they don't have a deal done before the draft when only 3 number ones have been signed before the draft. He really needs to take break.

He has an agenda and interest in Reggie Bush isn't part of it.

As far as player evaluations go, I read they were supposed to be settling the top of the draftboard yesterday... don't remember where I read it.

Yeah, I was shocked to see a few position rankers not having Thomas even in the top 3 or 4 TEs.

He was a force in the title game. Practically kept the chains moving all night in very critical situations. I think he'll be available, but I bet we pas him up...........as usual. :brickwall

he's got good hands, but...that's about it. most people have him ranked out of the top 5 for TE's. i think he'll be decent. definitely a later round steal.

I hope you are joking, if he holds onto his original contract demands it would be insane to sign him.:brickwall

You mean the "original" contract demands that were verified to be false by both Bush and his agent? Yes, I agree they would be insane to sign him to contract demands that he never asked for.

i got word Reggie's agents have asked him to come to Houston because it appears the deal is close to done...............5 yrs at 24.6 in guarranteed cash............they still have to get incentive money and the voidable yrs done.............and they are going to add option clauses to extend the deal when they CBA allows it.................looks like you guys truly now own the best RB in the AFC South.....................Mario and Bricks agents have leaked this because now Loomis is on the clock.............many are looking to see what happpens now with slot two.............................congrats.

I wonder if Matress Mac is still going to go through with his little ad?

I'm sure he will. Dude is border line nuts and I'm willing to bet that he even thinks his ad may sway the FO even.

He's a great player and potential steal, but be honest here. He's not undersized but he's also not phyically so gifted as to be a top 3 specimen. On most board's I've seen, he's not as fast as No. 1, smaller than No. 2, and has blocked less than No. 3. Klopfenstein was a very consistent performer (with a woeful offense to work in and a horrible QB) and I think many have dropped him below Thomas. I think ultimately David may prove better in value than all 3 due to intangibles. But I have to admit my bias here and also admit he's kind of come out of nowhere as a result of his work with Vince. This guy was a nobody a year ago (from a draftability perspective). Did Vince make him a hero or is he really that great? Time will tell.

He really does. He thinks he has McNair shaking in his boots.

I was just tying a question also, but since you asked already i'll wait and see if he answers you first.

No ask also, I'm beging to think the best method on these ESPN chats is to carpet bomb your question.

So please go ahead and ask, we'll have a better chance of getting answer that way.

Ok done, hopefully he'll answer one of us.

CC has told the national media it is Bush vs MWilliams.............both are in Houston by tonight.................he has them rated exactly the same.............he said it..................not me...............he said the deal is all about signability...............Mario is going to be easier to sign............but RBush wants to go at one and his side has caved a bit to get the deal structured under the new CBA...........................i am told RBush will not take a chance on falling...............that is why he is personally coming to houston today..............and the deal will get done................Mario's people know it as well.................................you can hold me to that info.

Indeed. Mac is a generous man and he's done a lot of good things with his money and quasi-fame but nobody should forget how many absolutely stupid things he's done along the way.

I always have a hard time with Mattress Mac because on the one hand he donates to charities and he seems to mean well in most everything he does. On the other hand at times he demonstrates an inflated ego and I personally blame him for decades of terrible TV and radio commercials that have hammered "I-45 NORTH BETWEEN TIDWELL AND PARKER" and "654-5570" into my brain causing who knows how much damage.

And you know Mac led to this new goon with his "THAT'S A FACT JACK!!" commercials.

I need a "delete" button to my brain.

Thomas is a very tallented TE in a loaded feild this year. Every one has their favorites. I like Klopenstien and Fansio they have the chanxce to be better blockers. One of the frustrating things about CC is he won't target a postion. You have a draft deep in TE's, DB's and OL you make sure you come away with two of the three in the first day. Fill in the rest on day two. Since it looks like we'll be taking prince Reggie, shortens the odds a bit. Most have the run on TE's DB's begining round two. We're going to need DE's also. Shortens the odds even more. Thomas may slide into the fourth, but with Reggie on the team, when you gonna get the H-back TE on the feild ? He has great hands, but you're drafting an H-back. Probably get to see him twice a year with Tennesse. At least it won't be with a pick from the Babin deal.

Im willing to lean to this is false.

Here is why. Its 4 days before the draft. Everything you hear about contracts and signings is not gonna be true until the texans announce officially they have signed someone. Right now every team in the league is playing this game. This is all cloak and dagger from here on out.

Nice post.

Good Lord, let us sign RB! I want VY over Bush, but Mario is sooooo much of a reach. Casserly is on Rome right now and he says Mario or Bush are the only options we are considering. Mario is very over rated IMO.

Yeah Mac & Hilton are definately pretty looney, but I recall them both receiving national attention, of sorts, for their ads. That's if you consider the Conan O'Brien show national attention.

He had been doing a bit on how Houston was the only market where his show wasn't shown right after Leno. He somehow got ahold of some ads from Hilton and Mac. The Mac commercial was the standard "We'll save you money!!!!!" and the Hilton commercial was all about cutting prices and featured Hilton using a chainsaw on a bed post. He then put it to a vote to see which personality he would invite on his show, and of course the audience chose the guy with the chainsaw. Afterall, nothing says nuts like a guy wielding a chainsaw & attacking helpless furniture. I'm pretty sure he followed threw and invited Hilton on the show, but I don't recall if he accepted the invite or not. Either way they're both first class head cases.

No reply and it's over till next Wed. and we will all know by then.

Kiper isn't exactly a scoopster. He's a draft expert who evaluates the players and team needs.

Wow. Really? How is Mario over-rated? One scout asked by Espn has Bush rated one point below perfect, and Mario is rated one point below that. I will find the quote.

Edit: here is the quote from ESPN

"a college scouting director whom I swear by told me that Bush is the best player he's ever evaluated, that Bush received a rating one point below perfect on his scale, while Williams graded out one point behind Bush".

Casserly is on the Dan Patrick show and says Williams and Bush still in play. Both are unique players, rare talents. He's certainly making noise like there's no deal.

As far as the Bush deal being nearly done, I consider the source. I don't think I will go around to my work mates telling everyone Bush is a done deal because Bongo said so. I will probably be fired if I did that. :ok:

How? Some people have a three point scale:

3 - Hall of Famer
2 - Mediocre
1 - Bust

Just IMO. Of course there are many who love what he could be capable of, but I just don't think he should be the first pick overall with such a great class. He's still in the top 10.

Good point, lol. If you go by PFW's draft guide, Vince Young and Mario Williams are tied (#2 and #3 respectively) at 1/2 point behind Reggie Bush. The overall scale is somewhat important.
