Wow, that would be incredible! Too bad for the Browns, they got a mediocre DC to be their head coach instead. Harbaugh with the #4 pick to get a QB to develop would be ideal.

In response to @ProFootballTalk report on #Browns nearly trading for Jim Harbaugh, #Niners source calls it “completely false. Ridiculous.”
... that some discussion could've happened through back channels.
I asked 3 weeks ago when I heard the Browns/Harbaugh rumor, high-ranking 49ers source said "not that I'm aware of" but left open ...
Mort confirms substance of our Harbaugh report

Its been an interesting day in Indianapolis.
Not long after finishing the last of 19 coach/G.M. interviews for Pro Football Talk on NBCSN, we nailed down the news that the Browns and 49ers had a trade in place to send Jim Harbaugh to Cleveland, and that Harbaugh ultimately opted not to consummate the deal.
The Browns did not deny the news, telling PFT that there would be no comment on the specific report, but explaining that many options were considered during the search for a new coach. The 49ers didnt immediately respond to a request for comment.
The 49ers apparently opted to try a different approach to denying the report with a press release, leaking to NFL Media via an unnamed source that the notion that the report is both completely false and ridiculous. It seemed odd that the 49ers wouldnt use those terms on the record if the report were indeed completely false and ridiculous, so we pointed that out.
So then 49ers CEO Jed York decided to address the situation on Twitter. Report isnt true, York said.
Its unclear whether York takes issue with all or just part of the report. He has declined a request to elaborate, explaining to PFT that he has nothing more to add.
Enter Chris Mortensen of ESPN.
Browns did indeed make a run at Jim Harbaugh that reached a serious stage, sources confirm substance of @ProFootballTalk report, Mortensen said via Twitter.
Given the sensitive nature of the relationship between the 49ers and Harbaugh a relationship sufficiently volatile to apparently prompt the 49ers to consider ending it its easy to understand why the 49ers would take the position that the report isnt true. Since the trade didnt happen, the 49ers need to work with Harbaugh.
They also may need to sign Harbaugh to a long-term contract, breaking the impasse that currently exists, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.
In the end, the biggest winner could be Harbaugh. For the 49ers to persuade the average fan that they really didnt think about divorcing Harbaugh, the 49ers may need to renew the vows.
Vows written by Harbaugh.

If you just dont want to believe any part of PFTs blockbuster report yesterday that the Cleveland Browns recently had a deal in place to acquire Jim Harbaugh from the 49ers before it collapsed that there is nothing here to examine at all
Thats your call and its an understandable call...
"There was an opportunity there and it didn't materialize," Haslam told USA Today. That's all Haslam had to say on the subject, but that's all he needed to say. He confirmed there were at least talks on Cleveland's part to obtain Harbaugh.
The situation gets even more interesting when you look back on a press conference Harbaugh held on Jan. 21 when he was actually asked about Cleveland.
Reporter: Can you say if the Browns have contacted you about anyone on your staff?
Harbaugh: I've had conversations with the Browns.
Reporter: You have?
Harbaugh: Yeah.
Reporter: Regarding?
Harbaugh: Regarding our coaches, yes.
Reporter: So that's a possibility as far as that opening?
Harbaugh: Yeah, there are possibilities.
Reporter: Is it just one? There was a report about defensive line coach Jim Tomsula. Is he the one or are there others that the Browns have asked about?
Harbaugh: Again, you start talking about other people's jobs -- that's their situation. You asked me if I've talked to anybody about our coaches, yes. Going into any further detail -- I don't think it helps our situation, their situation. Their search is their search.
"As much as York and his top executives value Harbaugh and appreciate the swift and sublime success he has enjoyed since arriving in 2011, a stretch that has included three consecutive NFC Championship Game appearances and a near-miss Super Bowl defeat, they are not inclined to beg him to stick around, either through words or emphatic financial gestures of support," Silver writes.
...
"We didn't do that when we hired him in the first place, either. Why would we run scared?" one top 49ers official told Silver. (That's in reference to San Francisco's refusal to raise Harbaugh's offer after the Miami Dolphins made a run to hire him.)
...
"Simply put, the Niners' brass believes that general manager Trent Baalke has assembled a talented team and is likely to continue making smart roster decisions -- and that Harbaugh is hardly the only person who could coach this team to a championship," Silver writes.
News from @BullandFox that Joe Banner has left the Browns is interesting. Plan was for him to stay on until spring. Farmer in charge now.
