Brown Bits

A couple things from the Cleveland Plain Dealer today ..

Dom Capers had to "dumb down" the defense early because he had three rookie starters.

Ex-Steelers kicker Kris Brown has been inconsistent.
First game ..
Last meeting: Browns won, 34-17, Oct. 20, 2002, in Cleveland. Andre Davis' 95-yard kickoff return in the third period spurred the Browns to a much-needed win after three losses in a row.
The Cleveland connection ..
SMALL WORLD Coach Dom Capers is a native of Cambridge and played at Mount Union... . Offensive coordinator Chris Palmer was 5-27 as Browns coach in 1999 and 2000... . Offensive line coach Joe Pendry was a Browns assistant coach from 1985 to 1988... . Linebackers coach Tom Olivadotti was a Browns assistant coach in 1985 and 1986... . Defensive assistant Tony Oden is a native of Cleveland Heights, played at Baldwin-Wallace and was a coaching intern with the Browns in 2001... . QB Dave Ragone is a Cleveland native and played at St. Ignatius High School.

" dumb down" ? I can't wait until boys read that. Walker, Payne, Smith, and Sharper might be a little offended. Too bad Peek ain't playing. He'd read that then rip some heads off.

All it means is they had to simplify it because there were rookies and new players in multiple positions. Yea 'dumb down" is maybe a little insulting if you read into it, but who cares? The Browns haven't won a single road game and are 3-12 right now. That's about as dumbed down as it gets unless you're in San Francisco.

hey the red sox were called IDI_OTS :bguitar: and they won the ws so if were dumb maybe we will when the super bowl ...GO TEXANS EAT'EM UP CARR8

The defense should do fine. I've watched the browns recently and they can tun the ball pretty well. Thats about it. So lets dumb it down... stop the run

If Josh McCowen plays we should do well, but if Kelly Holcomb plays we may be in for much more of a tussel than we all may be expecting. I sure hope this isn't a replay of the Cincinaty(sp) game of 2002. If we come to play we can certanly win this one, but if we expect them to just roll over we will get it jammed up our backsides.

The last time Holcombe started, he was 30 for 39, 413 yds and 5 TDs against the (now) 7-8 Bengals. The Browns put up 48 points that day. Too bad their defense didn't show up. Since Luke McCown has been starting, their offense has gone nowhere - especially the last three weeks. The key to this game will be to get up on them early and continue to play pressure defense so they get frustrated and quit. Don't let them hang around going into the 4th quarter. Plus, the crowd needs to be as hostile as if we were playing the titans. Browns QBs have been sacked a lot this year. Almost as much as ours.

There was alot of talk on the Browns msg board that the fans are hoping for a Brown loss so they can be in the #2 draft picks instead of #4...Do you think guys its possible the Browns may decide to lose this game on purpose????

Doubtful. They'll probably try hard and keep trying as long as they either have a lead or are within 10 points or so. The Texans need to hammer these guys into the mud early so they quit. There are players over there trying for roster spots too so they haven't all given up. We (players, coaches, fans) need to approach this like it was a division game. This is a Browns team that lost by only 3 points to the Eagles (with TO) and the Jets so they aren't totally hapless.

I see alot of people already chalking up our season as 8-8, and right now we are 7-8 with a chance at 8-8. I like our chances VERY much, but that's why we play the games. I saw G-Funk on the news last night and he was talking about 8-8. Everyone please remember we are not there yet. If we were, we wouldn't even play Sunday. With all that being said, I think we will end up at 8-8!!

When you are on a bad team you know there will be a lot of people losing their jobs. The last thing you want to do is look bad on tape. Guys understand that their resume is on game film. That said, you can play a strong game but when the collective team mood and atmosphere is miserable it's tough to get too high and play emotionally by yourself.

G-Funk has already played several games as though the season was over

I don't agree with that, and I'm not bashing Gary. I think he was talking in a scenario sense, but he never came out and said it. I just hope that the team is ready to play on Sunday, and definately expect them to. I think they want to go out with a bang.

In the past we have played ugly to win ugly and played bad against badteams, with a few exceptions. The best thing we can do is not overlook them and play like we have the last three games. I dont like us being big point spread favs we never cover and a lot of times lose because of not being the underdog.

they way our D has played latley we will win the game, if we can hold manning and lefwich we can hold holcomb easily !

Famous last words.

I have a bad feeling about this game for some reason. I hope I'm wrong.

Some of you think a lot more of Leftwich than I do.

Holcomb had over 400 yards and 5 TDs in his last start.

You never know, the Cavs did it so they could get Lebron. But there is no "can't miss" guy out there, so I think they will, as Herman Edwards said it, Play To Win The Game
