Broncos guard walks away from the NFL

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — John Moffitt wasn't unhappy with a lack of playing time in Denver. He quit the NFL because he'd lost his love for the game and was tired of risking his health.

The third-year guard from Wisconsin called the Broncos from his home in Seattle this week to notify them he wouldn't be returning to the team following its bye.

Now, I've never been on a football team, but my understanding is that it tends to be a very close-knit group. Issues of health and career satisfaction aside (I won't knock him for those), he could have at least told them in person or finished out the season.

Meh - maybe he didn't want to give them a chance to talk him out of it. It's a huge life changing decision. Good for him.

I'm sure a lot of people here will consider him "weak" for walking away and wanting to be happy, but, I respect this guy. I like his comments. His heart wasn't it in. He wanted to do something else.

A little over 500 snaps in 2011 and a little under 500 snaps in 2012 with Seattle with 56 playoffs snaps. Just 9 snaps in 2013.

To each his own, but you have to think he's walking away from a most excellent chance at for a ring.

Well, if he's lost his love for football, having a ring for a season in which he's averaged one snap per game may not mean very much to him anyway.
