Brohm/ Brennan

Newbsies

Practice Squad
Are these two coming out or what? From what I've heard they are both returning to school, yet I see them mentioned in many mock drafts and draft scenarios.

When do they Have To declare or not declare by?

I think Brohm will affect the top 10 picks but not Brennan. And Brennan would be dumb to declare this year imo.Wait till next year and actually be one of the top rated QBs'.

They have to declare by this coming Monday (January 15th). I don't think Brennan is coming out because I don't see him going in the 1st round this year, especially with Russell, Quinn, maybe Brohm, etc. all in front of him, but I think Brohm will end up coming out, I think Petrino's departure will help seal that deal.

Regarding Brennan, he was quoted after the Hawaii Bowl as saying it would take an offer he couldn't refuse type of evaluation to come out, that he was planning to stay at Hawaii. Now reports are that he's told people it's 50/50. My bet is he comes out. He has nothing more to prove. He IS one of the top rated QBs, and may get drafted above some of the "favorites". If he returns to Hawaii and passes for 7000 yards and 70 touchdowns with a QB rating over 200, he will still be considered by "experts" as being overrated because he plays in the run and shoot in the WAC. He will be no closer to the Heisman Trophy than he was this year. The NFL scouts know about Colt now, and another year won't help. If he really is marginal this year, he will still be considered marginal next year. Might as well go now. Mahalo.

The main difference is that he has JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Brian Brohm (assuming he comes out), and maybe others like Stanton, or even Kolb ahead of him, whereas next year there won't be that kind of QB class around him. I seriously doubt he makes it into the 1st round this year, largely because of that group in front of him, but next year he could end up being the top QB in the draft, although 5400 yards and 58 TDs is a hard act to follow.

I hear you about the class of QBs available, and it's a good point. However, the problem is that everyone who hasn't seen Colt Brennan play (and I've seen most of the games) places him below the names of the well-known and seen. How does one really know where he will go? The scouts know about him, and I believe that in their eyes he compares favorably to many of the QBs listed. He IS the best passer amongst the group, maybe the most uncannily accurate passer in years. He is NOT Timmy Chang, who threw for gazillion yards but couldn't get the crucial first downs and was horrible in the red zone. The big stats mean something real about Brennan's capabilities, not the offense nor the conference Hawaii plays in. So, if he declares, I hope he has information (through the NFL underclass advisory service, among others) that he will be competitive versus the other QBs mentioned in the draft. Mahalo.

I haven't seen alot of Brennan's games, but I have seen a couple. I would rank him right next to Brohm, above Quinn, but below Russell.

I live in Hawaii and this guy is for REAL!! Houston would be lucky to get Brennan. I have been to several UH games this year and he is the real deal.
He is very accurate AND can read the defense. I just hope Houston will get him.

You're probably right. Brennan can gain 20 pounds but not three inches. The latest scuttlebutt back here in paradise is that Brennan is leaning towards returning for his senior year. Probably reading the boards here too much, his hopes were dashed. Jus' kidding. Mahalo.
