HOU-TEX
Ah, Football!
I don't really get it. OTOH, Mallett hasn't shown that much, either.
Yeah, I thought about that after I'd posted. Guess it shows the "talent" and lack of experience available in FA for QBs these days.

I don't think he has either. That's just how bad this FA QB class is. Hoyer is actually the one with the best resume and that's not really saying a whole lot. I can't get behind Sanchez or Locker, and even the opportunity to get Kaepernick isn't all that exciting.
I'm extremely excited about Mallet.........not so much about Hoyer.
Not to add any controversy/anxiety to the Hoyer acquisition, but I can't help but being somewhat guarded re. Hoyer after being knocked out of the end of the season with a "shoulder injury" when he was driven into the ground.........of his throwing arm. He tried to throw a week later and could hardly get the ball out of his hand. What did not get widely publicized is that he also suffered a biceps injury during that same play. I certainly hope that Hoyer will be thoroughly checked out medically (including MRI/MRI arthrogram as appropriate) and performance tested before all is finalized. A QB coming back from an ACL can be quite different from a QB trying to come back from some combination shoulder and biceps injuries.
I posted this in the Mallet thread, but think that it's probably more appropriate to be posted in this thread.
I'm thinking OB played Jedi Mindtricks on them & have them thinking we've got a real shot at the play offs. With our only competition for these "signal callers" being the Jets...
We've got a better shot than the Jets do for winning our division, but after that we're all wild cards & I wouldn't count the Jets out any more than us.
What if Mallet sucks, or if he gets hurt for a string of games? Having a solid back up is a nice luxury to have. And Hoyer is a great back up.
I think we could win several games with Hoyer possibly. Especially if we get him some help. We can't win any SB's with what we got, but it's the best alternative I've seen that we have, and this way we have two options back there at QB at least and some better depth than what we had last year.
So the question becomes:
1) No AJ
2) No Meyers
3) + Hoyer
4) + Second place/div schedule (instead of 2-14 schedule)
Does this team go 9-7 or better?
I hate to say it, but I'd lay odds against it.
OYE!
So we signed Ryan Fitzpatrick without the beard?
I'm wondering if BOB is trying to play "Jedi Mindtricks" on the fans! "These are the QB's we're looking for." "There's nothing to see here." "Move along!"![]()
If I can use a Game of Thrones analogy.... I expected him to be neutered, I expect Hoyer to be neutered. But I'm hoping for the Unsullied variety, or even the Varys kind, not the Reek version.
"The Season is long and filled with terrors!"
I first read this as "terriers". Which may also be accurate."The Season is long and filled with terrors!"
If he neuters these guys like Fitzpatrick was last year, then I'll be upset. Fitz was a gunslinger before he came here. He threw that ball around like he didn't have a care in the world... & he was a sub .500 QB.
I'm glad that he played a restrained & controlled game, but I'd have liked to have seen a play every now & then, & not just his Tebow impression.

I don't know about yall, but do you ever get the feeling that not all of us who post here are actually serious about this ****?
If Mallett is the starter, which he better be over Hoyer, then the question of if Mallett sucks isn't going to matter because once we're playing that QB carousel again, going to our backups, then we're not going anywhere anyway.
The chips are in on Mallett, hopefully that parlays into something big. If it doesn't and we've got Hoyer/Savage driving the boat, then we're still in the market for a QB like half of this league is every year.
I see this as a three point issue with both Mallett and Hoyer.
1. The Brownstains and the Jets are both dumpster fires compared to the Texans and who really wants to go into a bad situation with all of the distractions, media and otherwise? The Texans offer a much more stable atmosphere.
2. Both know the offense and will have a head start as opposed to learning a whe new system.
3. The Texans are, imho, a much more talented team. That included recent player moves.
Going to a stable environment, playing on a talented roster, in an offense that you already know has to be preferable to the circus that is Manziel and the NY Jets.

We could be in the market for a big time QB for another 10 years. If you don't understand that by now, then you had better start believing in that possibility real real soon. Sometimes it takes teams that long and even longer to get a hold of that long term solution. Finding a QB is extremely difficult.
All hail Cult Leader Bill. Save us Cult Leader Bill. We bow to your greatness.
Well good thing Cult Leader Bill is a master recruiter. Save us, Master Bill.
You can keep throwing underlying insults out at Bill O'Brien all you want, but he is the leader of this team whether you want him here or not, and he is going to be here for quite a few more years. Bob isn't quick to fire anyone and has full confidence in this guy right now. OB is an ex Patriot HC that does things in a very similar fashion and is likely going to keep bringing in Patriot players here which is what you don't like.
I've told you that you should have plenty of room on the Denver bandwagon now that the coach you like is there. Lord knows I'm sure that several Denver fans have jumped off that bandwagon now that Kubes is there, and will be happy to let you melt down and have tantrums on their ship instead of ours. You seem like you'd be a lot happier over there.
Either way, OB is the face of this organization now and you're going to have to accept it at some point.
Agreed. I have seen the light myself and I love this Houston Texans team more than ever. Today is a promising start to many successful seasons ahead. We have to keep building on last season's 9-7 team.Either way, OB is the face of this organization now and you're going to have to accept it at some point.

Better yet, keep building on that 17-10 hard-fought loss at Indianapolis late in the 2014 season. That was a game we sort of got a preview about life without Andre Johnson, as he was out with a concussion, but unfortunately we were down to an injured Tom Savage playing quarterback at the end. As we continued our all-time winless skid at Indianapolis, 0-13 all time. But that game and close loss gave me a ton of hope for the future.
I actually feel that the Houston Texans will win a Super Bowl or two sometime during O'Brien's tenure. I never felt that way about Dom Capers or Gary Kubiak. All we need now is to be patient and allow the man to put together his type of offense. Defensively, we are closer to having a Super Bowl caliber team. We just need to stay healthy and keep working hard. Special teams has also improved although we could always use a game-changer in the return game.
You're right. If we have those two things in 2015 then I expect a wild-card berth if nothing else. 9-7 (again), 10-6 or 11-5 type of record. I feel like we improved our quarterback situation today with Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer. We'll improve at wide receiver in the draft and free agency. The Colts will be tough to overtake for the division title but the Texans aren't far away from dethroning them again. Like I said, our last game against them, on the road no less, we fought them tooth and nail and that 17-10 loss I couldn't have been prouder of the way the Texans played. All we need right now is more talent and some of our big guns, two of them being rookies last year, staying healthy on defense: Cushing, Clowney and Nix.Health and luck are always the most important things in sports.
I cleared my ignore list a couple of days too soon.
They are desperate for a veteran quarterback to compete with Geno Smith. Watch them end up with Ryan Fitzpatrick. The big guy John McClain was chirping into my ears a few minutes ago saying that Brian Hoyer is likely to sign a three-year deal with the Texans sometime on Tuesday afternoon (tomorrow). So I guess it's just last-second flirting with the Jets at this point. Now they're starting to say that maybe Hoyer will go with the Jets, instead...

If I'm JJ Watt, I'm practicing throwing the football during the offseason. It looks like he might have to play offense and defense for us to have a shot at the playoffs. Mallett and Hoyer as the QB for the Texans?! YIKES!!!!
Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer are Bill O'Brien type of quarterbacks who played behind Tom Brady while he coached in New England. I'm much more comfortable having two guys like that on the depth chart as Tom Savage continues to learn and grow as the third-stringer.If I'm JJ Watt, I'm practicing throwing the football during the offseason. EDIT: I should clarify that I have zero expectation that you'll actually reply to this or those posts. You never do. You're a Selective Replier who's been clowned time and time and time and time again repeatedly without any accountability whatsoever and yet you keep still peddling your nonsensical, bizarre narrative. This is for others to click and read about how disingenuous you are and continue you to be. Basically Barackxecutioner.
OB got highs from Fitz in comp.%, TD%, YPA, his second lowest INT%, and blew away his best TD-to-INT. He managed to max out his big plays while limiting his mistakes to a near minimum.
I'm not sure what more plays you could envision from the guy that wouldn't have inevitably resulted poorly.
Now they're starting to say that maybe Hoyer will go with the Jets, instead...
I like the way this man thinks.if I were hoyer I'd probably go with the jets too. easier to beat out geno smith than mallett, and the jets have great receivers in decker and brandon marshall.

I was actually looking forward to seeing more 358 yards, 6 TDs, & 0 INTs of the Titan's game with Fitz in year two of "the system" but c'est la vie
