Brian Hoyer Might Become Available

my sources are telling me that the browns just signed rex grossman and that the browns players have two camps, a johnny camp and a hoyer camp. maybe hoyer's agent can get him released.

I would definitely bring him in and see if he's a smart, good teammate. Not a huge fan of his, but at this point...
:toropalm:

I don't see Grossman as reason that Hoyer gets released. No matter whether Hoyer or Manziel starts, I see the Browns needing a 3rd QB for backup insurance. Hoyer is coming off of an ACL (I know, not as important in a QB, but still a factor).....and Manziel is an injury waiting to happen in the NFL. They need that 3rd QB.......if they are smart. But, of course, we're talking about the Browns.

I know Hoyer has familiarity with "the system" but it's too late to bring in a QB now.

Looks like they're all in with Fitzgerald... if that's true & then it's time to dump Case & start fast tracking Savage.

Hoyer already declined to chance to sign an extension because he wanted to prove he is worth more this year. Trying to get his release is probably not the best move. Hoyer is all in with the Browns now for 2014.

Why are you so hell-bent on a QB getting cut? It just doesn't make a bit of sense.

I do agree that it's probably too late to bring a QB in to be the starter, but not as a backup. :cowboy1:

I think we have too many depth issues to use a roster spot on a QB... & we've got three backups already, don't need another one.

Hahaha!! Well played!! :hothboy:

I agree that the Texans have depth issues, but my concern is over the quality of said depth, not quantity.
:doghouse:

My sourcces are telling me that the Browns signed Grossman because Thigpen played so bad. So bad in fact they cut Thigpen after signing Grossman. Kyle Shanahan has a strong familiarity with Grossman.

Would love to have Hoyer. He would instantly be the best QB on the roster and still has some upside in him. Not a world beater but I liked what I saw of him and think he could be that game manager type that can get you through and possibly more than that depending on development.

I thought we had that type of guy in Fitz but man he has some serious improving to do to get there. And by there, I'm talking a game manager type. I knew he was a journeyman but I've seen Fitz play way, way, way better then he did Saturday. Either that was a terrible aberration or he has seriously regressed ala the way Schaub did from 12 to 13.

It wouldn't take Hoyer long to get up to speed. If he wasn't ready game one it wouldn't be long after that so this idea that it's too late is just silly on it's face.

Having said all of the above, I don't see the Browns releasing him, and I doubt they will trade him either but who knows. It's worth a call for sure.

Lastly, Savage isn't ready to play and may not be this year at all and perhaps never. If y'all are looking to Savage to be the savior, you're in for a long wait.

I am firmly believing that is the plan. I was thinking it after the draft but now I am near positive that is what BOB is planning

I'm not sold on Hoyer as a starter because the Browns have one of the better O-Lines in the league.

Having said that, I'm not sold on Fitz as a starter for that matter either.

I'm with you.

Pretty sad if you're salivating over a QB the Browns don't want.

Grossman has history with Shanahan in Houston and Washington. He knows the offense and can be a reliable vet behind Hoyer and Manziel (on the sideline and the film room). Thigpen just wasn't going to cut it so they cut ties with him and brought in a guy who can help in more ways than just holding a clipboard. Connor Shaw will likely go on waivers at some point and if he goes through they will sign him to the practice squad.

"Dude, just throw it 80 yards down field. Slant passes are for wimps"

College stats that averaged about 55% completion and with Cleveland 58% avg last two years? Be still my beating heart.

If he becomes available, hell yes pick him up! He's been a starter for several teams including us and a hell of a lot better than Savage.

I'd rather have Kaepernick as a backup QB than Hoyer, and I'm not impressed with Kaepernick at this point. They'd be better of bringing Weeden back.

O'Brien knows better (or at least should) than to bring Brian Hoyer back into this building. What amounts to a disgruntled and confused fan base that's seen no progress whatsoever since he got here will get downright ugly and offensive if he tried to get his boy Brian back on the payroll.

We don't need another backup QB. If we did it would be Weeden who's been here and gone. Honestly I'd rather have Weeden than Savage at this point and I am very far from a Savage critic. I think in the right place he could still be something but the advantage of "knowing the offense" is no advantage at all here in Houston under O'Brien. The offense you know so well is composed of 10 other guys, many of who occupy positions they apparently are not capable of playing. The offense you learn here can be thrown out the window in the blink of an eye. In that case better to have Weeden as your backup. He's a guy who can apparently learn a few plays and go into a game and win it for you (as we've already seen). He's a better fit for make-it-up-as-you-go football and that's the kind of football O'Brien seems hell bent on making us play every single year he's here.

McNair fired Kubiak for putting Schaub back in a game when he was the backup QB. Can you imagine what McNair would do if Billy snatched Hoyer off waivers? Then put him in a game?

It would be Ricky who brings a guy in, remember?
And if O'Brien disagrees, they were supposed to go to McNair.
Ricky wins either way.

Did I hear right on NFLN that Shanahan is not letting Hoyer throw passes more than 10 yards?
