I really hope this guy gets an opportunity!

He doesn’t have a job, but he has plenty of prospects.

Linebacker Brian Banks, exonerated last month after five years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, will participate in the final two days of the Seahawks’ minicamp on a tryout basis. Before heading back to Seattle (where he had a workout last week), he worked out for the Chiefs, after the first day of the team’s mandatory camp.

Coach Romeo Crennel confirmed after the team’s Tuesday practice that Banks is in town and would show the coaching staff what he can do.

At least one other team continues to pursue Banks. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday that Banks could be coming to town.

“I know in talking to [G.M.] Rick [Spielman] and the scouting staff, that’s something we’ve talked about and there’s a good chance that he may be coming in,” Frazier said, via Brian Murphy of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Other teams reportedly interested include the 49ers and Redskins. The Chargers worked him out, but didn’t give him a contract. The Dolphins explored the possibility of giving Banks a tryout, but decided against it.

In the end, every franchise in the NFL can be interested, but until at least one team offers him a contract, it won’t matter. Recruited by Seahawks coach Pete Carroll when Carroll was the coach at USC, Banks has a natural tie to Seattle. And it’s hard not to think that, if no one else offers Banks a job, Carroll will give him the 90th spot on the roster, and a fair chance to make the long climb from 90 to 53.

Given the adversity he already has overcome in his life, that should be a breeze.

According to Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback column, Banks ran a 4.77 forty-yard dash time at 6-foot-2 1/2, 239 pounds during his Chiefs tryout earlier this month. Keep in mind Banks just began working out extensively on May 24, after he was exonerated.

A guy who has just been working out tough for about a month running faster than 9 other LBs at this year's combine? I'm rooting for this guy big time. I like the young guys we've brought in, but I hope someone gives him an opportunity to really get into a camp and compete.

I'm cheering for him, but the odds are very long here.
He hasn't played football in years, he has no experience except at high school, etc

His shot of making a team this year is probably zero...... I think the only way he has a shot in the league is having a team invest in him by stashing him on the Practice Squad for the season and allowing him to truly work out, get film work and meetings in, and get better with his technique. Not even Jordan was Jordan when he tried to come back and play basketball the year baseball went on strike.

Is is a long shot? Absolutely! But it would be a great story to see him overcome what he has, and be able to make a 53 man roster in a year or so.

DAYUM!!! I need to get a life. I read (NSFW) Briana Banks, she's worth a look, no?!!!

Brian Banks not sweating Atlanta Falcons' final cuts

Hundreds of men will lose their jobs over the next two days as NFL teams have until 6 p.m. ET Saturday to trim their rosters to 53 players.

The prospect of being out of work can overwhelm many players, but Atlanta Falcons linebacker Brian Banks isn't breaking a sweat.

You know Banks' story by now: The former promising high school player spent fives years in prison and five more on probation after being falsely accused of rape. He was signed by the Falcons this offseason.

Banks spent the pregame of the Falcons' final preseason game with his mother and said he had "no anxiety whatsoever" about making the roster, per the team's official website...

Background on the rape conviction/overturn.

*****************************

The woman whose false rape accusation sent a high school football star to prison has been ordered to pay a $2.6 million judgement in connection to the case, NBC 4 Los Angeles reports.

Wanetta Gibson (pictured) was ordered by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Friday to pay a $1.5 million, plus an additional $1.1 million in fees. Gibson was an acquaintance of Brian Banks at Long Beach Polytechnic High School when she accused him of raping her in a school stairwell. Gibson then sued the Long Beach Unified School District, claiming the school was not safe; she won a $750,000 settlement.

And what's going to happen to Gibson?...........NOTHING!! Turns out she’s broke and on welfare, having blown the entire monies she took in on cars, big screen TVs and the like. She has two kids with two different fathers, and was ordered to pay child support (perhaps her mother was taking care of them), but has been let off the hook. She’s a failure and in her position from very poor choices, but the state has decided not to prosecute her for either lying about the rape (and having Banks imprisoned and almost labelled forever a sex offender) or failure to pay child support.

Where's the justice?
