Bolts in Playoffs with 2 rookies starting Oline

And one of them is RT Olivea they got in the 7th round. The other tackle
was picked up in a trade this past offseason - in other words these guys
had barely met each other before they started practicing together this season. What is all this talk about it taking some Olines several seasons
to gell and mature before they can effectively work together as a unit.
 
Too bad for SD they have "Coach not to lose" leading the team! Has there ever been a worse post season coach besides Marty? Ok maybe Glanville , I grant you that one! :loser
 
Well besides the fact that the chargers have one of the best o line coaches in the nfl, the players that they brought in were good players. Oben has been playing LT for years and Olivea was projected as a high 3rd rounder before he got hurt at a workout before the draft.
 
The Chargers certainly disprove the "time to gel" theory. The announcers said that before this year that OL group had not taken a single snap together. 2 rookies and no experience working as a unit. :shocked

You may be right, but there has to be something said about the coaches getting their teams to the post season.

Jim Mora (Sr.) was horrible with the Colts and Saints. I don't think he won a single playoff game with the Saints or Colts though. Granted he did lead his team to three straight USFL Championship Games and won 2 of those. Does that count though?

Not necessarily true, because we've had time to develope 2 draft choices and 3 FA acquisitions who, not including T.Wade, have all been with us a minimum of 2 seasons. The run blocking is looking pretty good, but we
still are deficient when it comes to pass protecting. So clearly time isn't the
common denominator for the successful developement of an OL.
The Bolts didn't need time, and nobody ever claimed the Bolts were one of the NFLs best orgs. If they can figure out the successful formula, I think
we should be able to do the same.
Even in the next to the last game of the season, they were doing something as squirley as platooning the LT ? Talk about wierd. The OL/pass protection issue has been a real rubik's cube for this team. Apparently they can't figure out which of the parameters (OL personel, coaches, QB behavior in passing situations) is broke. Because they've had time.

You're saying talent and not time spent together is what's missing from our Oline - brilliant ! OK then, you sold me, so let's go out and get some talent.
 
Apparently it was just that simple for the Bolts, 'cause they made a collective upgrade to their OL that aided them in going from 4-12 to 12-4.
And they did it in one, count 'em, one offseason.
As far as the Texans' OL projects and David Carr's physical well being ,
I think that's something that Mr. McNair totally lost patience with right
about the time the 6 sack game ended with the Browns.
