Bob McNair just passed away

This is really the point on all this. I'm sick of the racist thing. These people were raised and lived in a different time. And just like myself that my thoughts are somewhat stuck in the late 80s early 90s, my guess is he was stuck in the 50s early 60s pre civil rights stuff. My dad is 84 and says some of the most amazing things not understanding its really not the right thing to say in 2018. We have a very bad habit to hold older generations to the norms of the time and as we write the rule book I dont expect them to keep up.

As for Mr McNair. Football is a way of life in my house and has been since I've been 10 years old. I loved the oilers and was devastated when they left. Infact I hope Bud Adams is roasting somewhere for if nothing else not returning the oiler name to the McNairs and Houston. I am so greatful that Mr. McNair was a leader and fought for Houston and fought for us to have a new football team. And, things like the superbowl that make Houston a better place to live with more financial opportunities. And of course all the people he helped though the years and the Millions he just gave away to make Houston a better place.

I hope we beat the Titans 50-0 Monday. Any idea of dress for the game?

You’re a real one

Do you have employees - and / or a boss? Be sure and let them know that you have zero loyalty to them, and expect zero loyalty back.

Agree, however if they’re not performing at their job you have to set the standard. You can’t just keep underperforming employees around out of “loyalty”. Many feel that David Carr was kept around too long due to McNair’s relationship with the Carr family. Personal relationships should never get in the way of smart business decisions.

What is the source of the racist comments about McNair? I saw a comment on another site about a football fan calling him a racist. I don't remember him doing anything publicly to earn this slur.

Because he meant to say that “you can’t let the inmates run the asylum”, however said “prison” instead. So the SJW types who relate the word prison to blacks accuse him of being racist. It makes you wonder who the real racists are.

If it's that, or something (anything) to do with Colin Kaepernick then it's merely bullshit slander, not anything real. Neither of those things have anything to do with blacks in particular, but with players in general.

I'm not saying anything negative about him anymore. If there is an afterlife, I hope he's in a comfortable place. Cal may be a different story, but like Gaine I'll play wait and see for a while.

It was just that. He misspoke on a common saying which is not uncommon for people up in years. What I find ironic is all those that accuse that as being racist are immediately relating the word prison to blacks. So when they hear the word prison they think of black people.

Also he was referring to the players. Last I checked there were plenty of whites on the roster.

This just confirms what I have always thought. Those SJWs that are looking for an angle of race in everything are indeed the true racists. Normal people wouldn’t have given that a second thought but to think “he meant to say asylum, bless his heart.”.

Logic has no place here sir....

KaSm.gif

. THIS IS THE INTERNET!!!

But in seriousness anyone claiming racism is a hypocrite IF they have ever used the phrase "I could care less" trying to state they dont care at all.... which would be " I couldn't care less".

So if they call him racist for simply miss speaking a common idiom.... they are guilty of not knowing how to speak English at all for using the common phrase "I could care less" which is LITERALLY stating they COULD care less... thus implying some level of interest ... even if only a little bit.

Some people just like to find malice where there is none so they can have someone to be mad at... point the finger and scream "evil one" for a simple innocent mistake... yet oddly hate when the finger points at them for their mistakes.... funny how that works eh?

I dunno but think it was because of allegations made that Mr McNair made comments in the Texans's locker room once that he wasn't happy with Barrys election.
And you know what I beleive those allegations but I don't think it about , bu rather about Obama's political affiliation. The owner was passionate about the Republican party and despised Dems. I just don't think that Bob McNair was a racist.

I'd imagine the subject matter (blacks, kneeling, police brutality, kneeling, etc) that lead to his 'inmates/prison' comment had as much to do with the backlash as sjws looking for an angle.

And yes, I do believe there are sjw types out there who do do just that, but I also believe it's worth noting that the context at the time didn't do the apparent intention of his comment any favors.

Because he misspoke and was an unabashed conservative he got labled a racist.

BTW, McNair was quite the racist, he hired Bobby Greir as his personnel guy and kept him around a lot longer than he should have.

Also Ricky worked as the lead guy of the Texans org and represented the Texans at NFL functions, plus he severed on the NFL competition committee. The fact that he wasn't very good at his job and should've been fired on merit after the 2010 season, yet McNair kept him on as the face of his franchise was really a sign that McNair was a racist.

I've been very critical of the way McNair ran HIS franchise but the racism claims are bogus and just another attempt to take down a powerful guy by the SJW's that didn't care for his politics and that's just flat out wrong.

Why would a racist owner hire a black for a GM? Doesn't make sense. As to his political beliefs, if I held everyone accountable for their political beliefs, I probably wouldn't like anyone at all.

And get off my lawn!

I'm sure you will get some BS explanation from the SJW's.

I’m sorry, but that just drips anti-O’Brien. Fan and media sentiment, one way or the other, will be given the same weight as always when making football decisions, which won’t be much and never has been.
Well dang tootin I've never hidden my opposition to O'Brien and never suggested my sentiment will be given any weight. I do however hope Cal can see with his own eyes how bad his head coach is. You can not?

Correct. They are the ones who auto-associated the word "prison" to blacks, not McNair.

Yankees owner George Steinbrenner used the same phrase in 2002: "Those you build into stars, you make sure they are team players,” he told me. “When you start letting the inmates run the prison, you are lost. A lot of teams have done that."

Source

When Steinbrenner said it, no one accused him of being racist because the world hadn't lost its mind yet.

BTW, I had to find that New Yorker article on Steinbrenner through my own Google research. Zero media sources mentioned it in comparison to McNair's statement, although ESPN was certain to mention McNair's prison quote in their report of his death two days ago. It's all pretty disgusting.

If it's that, or something (anything) to do with Colin Kaepernick then it's merely bullshit slander, not anything real.

Exactly. It's a slander of a good man who didn't deserve it. McNair put his money where his values were, while these drooling automatons just mutter "racist racist" like aphasic children.

Speaking of...

so the rasist finally meets his maker

Meatbear just called, he said to tell you he found some lead paint that needs huffing.

I don't know much about Bob McNair. Only what is said here. But I kinda heard McClain say McNair came to Houston with $700 to his name. Started a couple of businesses that failed before having success with an energy company.

Is that right?

No, and there’s a proper thread for your opposition. This one isn’t it.

So sad to hear about the passing of Mr. McNair. I've been upset all weekend.

Decent football owner, but way better of a person. Talk about a guy that lived out his faith. 500 million given to charity that is known and he did so much more behind the scenes, some of which is coming out now, some of which we'll never know.

One of those is that Bob quietly paid for the funerals of all 9 victims of the Dylan Roof church shooting in SC. This past summer, he went to SC along with all the Texans players with SC roots and visited the church and tried to lift up the people who had lost so much. All while dying of cancer. Some racist he is.

He was once asked why he wants to keep most of his philanthropy quiet, and he quoted the bible - Matthew 6:1-8

Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

One time he said "What good is having money if you can't use it to help others".

THAT is Bob McNair. True southern gentleman, classy, who never once cussed in public and who was quietly one of the greatest philanthropists of our times.

Like the parable of the talents in Matthew 25, I can imagine Jesus saying ‘Well done, good and faithful servant"!

Well done indeed. Rest in Peace Mr. McNair. You will be sorely missed.

Do you have employees - and / or a boss? Be sure and let them know that you have zero loyalty to them, and expect zero loyalty back.
I was overly loyal to my bosses even when I disagreed with them and could prove them wrong. Loyal to another whom I had solid proof from his VP that he had kept money from me --twice. Loyal to employees I supervised until they had proven they were not only not good for my employer but could not be retrained. I was in a management position most of my work history but in labor jobs many years including several years as a fulltime union rep.

Is there really any disagreement that not only McNair but also some of his management team (Kubiak for one) were overly loyal at times? Has that not been discussed in this MB over the years? When contract criteria is met by either side negotiations can began. Why is that a bad thing? Do I feel some players deserve what they want? Sure. Do I also think for better of team the team should get what they need? I have defended Clowney this season more than most and with facts not just "he's a Texan!". If team can be made better moving a player, count me in 90 percent of time.

Really well Seegara brought it up before me:

The way he went about improving the team was controversial, but he tried and he cared. Now I'm sure he has accomplished what it was said to be hard for a rich man to do. May we go on to win the SB as he looks down on his team.

What changes will be made after things settle back into everyday mode? Will Billy get canned? Will the GM stay on and have the responsibility for the team's operation? Time will tell.[/QUOTE]but I'll move on with no disrespect for any McNair.

Well placed loyalty should mean rewarding employees/players and sticking with them when the are performing their job/duties at an acceptable level. Rewarding employees/players and keeping them around due to a personal relationship when they are not performing at an acceptable level is just not good for business. The latter is what people mean when they say Bob McNair was too loyal.

I don’t live there anymore so don’t know of recent examples but it clearly was an issue with David Carr.

As for an example of someone who wasn’t loyal at all see Bud Adams.

RIP

Thank you for football in H-town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish he lived long enough for team to raise the Lombardi. T'was not meant to be.

I wonder if they will have a tribute for him tonight before the game? Moment of silence? And do you think it will affect the play on the field?

Yes there will be a tribute, how would you know if it affected play on the field? Last time Texans played them they lost, last time at home was a blowout

I guess it got me thinking about how flat they came out after the hurricane last year

I want to personally thank you mr. mcnair. You singlehandededly brought football back to houston. Without you we couldnt have reached the success we have reached. You were the guiding light in a dark room. I want you to know that you will be forever missed. We appreciate all you have done for us mr. mcnair.
Rest assured that your son will continue your success.

I personally want to thank McNair for being a classy dude. I'm sure he took a lot of crap about his team, but he didn't let it get to him. I don't like owners who make everything about them & knee jerk after knee jerk.

We're where we are now... looking at where the Browns are (the 2nd youngest NFL team)... we're not doing too bad.

Look at where the Jags are... 3rd/4th youngest team... we're not doing too bad.

Look at the Panthers... eh.

Some good photos from the pre-game commemoration of McNair last night.

How the Texans honored the late Bob McNair before Monday night's game

Players stood on the sidelines with heads bowed, and linebacker Whitney Mercilus at one point knelt in front of McNair's initials, RCM, which were painted on the NRG Stadium field at each 25-yard line. Texans players wore identical RCM helmet decals.

...

"That one's for you, Bob," radio play by play announcer Marc Vandermeer shouted as running back Lamar Miller raced 97 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for the Texans...
