Big mistake - RB w/number 1 pick - Reggie Bush

Practice Squad
The Texans would be making a mistake in taking Reggie Bush 1st. I do think Bush will be an excellent player and have a great NFL career but history has shown that RB's can be had for a lot less in the NFL. Plus a backup RB can easily fill the shoes of most NFL starting RB's. Do your research.

Who/when was the last RB picked No. 1?
Cincinnati took Ki-Jana Carter RB Penn State in 1995
Before that you'd have to go back to 1986 and Bo Jackson from Auburn
http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/drafts

If you look back in draft history you will see that many years (with the exception of last year which had great backs) RB's weren't selected until very late in the round.

The top rushing RB's were not selected first...
Emmit Smith (17th pick), Walter Payton (4th), Jim Brown (6th pick), Barry Sanders (3rd), Eric Dickerson (2nd)

NFL offenses start and stop with one player... QB The number 1 pick should be used for it.

Since you mentioned looking back in history go look at QB. Moreover, start in 1993 when the Salary Cap was instituted. Trade down.

2005 1 1(1) ALEX SMITH QB
2004 1 1(1) ELI MANNING QB
2003 1 1(1) CARSON PALMER QB
2002 1 1(1) DAVID CARR QB
2001 1 1(1) MICHAEL VICK QB
2000 1 1(1) COURTNEY BROWN
1999 1 1(1) TIM COUCH QB
1998 1 1(1) PEYTON MANNING QB

I think every team is trying to get lucky and find their Peyton Manning, im sick of all this bs talk about drafting another QB #1 overall, do you see Tom Brady on that list? The one QB that sticks out the most is Michael Vick because Vince is more like him then any of the other players currently in the NFL; he was drafted one year before David Carr on a falcons team that had allready been established and still has not done crap. Look at what my second team behind Texas, Carolina did to the falcons last week and who does Carolina have as their QB. Now, look at what good ol Jake is doing to the Eli and the Giants.

None of these number one overall QB's have proven anything, not even peyton manning because he has yet to win a superbowl. I say that the Texans are making the right decision, forget about drafting another QB and work on making the Texans a good team like Carolina is. I think they pick Bush, work on the OL and forget about the offense for awhile and work on making their defense, you think Carolina wins being a offensive powerhouse?

Or just trade down and get rid of all ADD

I somewhat agree. But you can't use the top overall pick on a QB every time you have the top overall pick. The Texans have already used the top pick on a QB.

What somebody else said. RB is not the answer at #1 overall. Trade down.

I agree... if your not going QB then trade down.

do you have short term memory loss? Do you not remember vick winning a playoff game on the road IN GREEN BAY, or have you just magically slipped and forgot about taking the falcons to last years nfc championship. Just because the falcons didnt make the playoffs this year doesnt mean vick hasnt done crap... the eagles didnt make the playoffs this year either, has donovan mcnabb done nothing?

Ok, so Vick and the falcons regressed this year, whoops, they sure didnt look like they were in the nfc championship last year and yes, they were so bad this year, it will make you forget about the previous year. As for the Eagles, Do you see Mcnabb on the #1 overall picked QB,s and he made the superbowl, I am speaking of #1 overall picks here. None have made the big show, in fact, why dont you tell me the last #1 overall pick at the QB position that made the Superbowl?

Aikman, Elway, Bradshaw, Jim Plunkett were all superbowl winning 1st picks.

Bledsoe lost to Greenbay in 96'

Plunkett won two Super Bowls with his 3rd team. I don't see how his #1 draft status helped New England (the team that drafted him) much.

Any particular reason why comparing him to Carter would be a bad thing?
