Best role model/leader/player

YodAa

Rookie
Who do you think is the best role model/leader/player (I'm talking all of those qualaties in one player. Player you choose can be from any sport.)?

I think its Derrick Brooks or Michael Jordan

Shame on you Yodaa. David Carr by a longshot. A few years ago there was a baseball player named Dale Murphy who was a great role model. Carr seems to be cut from the same mold.

O uh did I leave out Carr? Silly me! cough*not!*cough jk I think Carr could one day be the poster boy of what an NFL player should be like.

I'm probably in the vast minority saying this but I don't consider and never have considered any athlete a "role model"....I think that should come from parents, friends, people you have contact with and know.

I admire many people in the public arena but as for "role models"...no they are not for me.

I agree...There's nothing wrong with admiring an athletes body of work, but I've never looked at an athlete as a role model...Even as a young boy, I was aware that most athletes portray an image of being a role model, yet do completely opposite things behind closed doors...Kids' role models should be family members or close friends of the family...

Cal Ripken Jr. The guy was and is class all the way on the feild and off. He is what all athletes should measure themselves against and and strive to be. Also David Carr is a terrific role model also and am glad he is on our team.
I would rather have a quality person and player than a T.O. or Randy Moss.

I'm not into athletes as role models either. I do appreciate decent people who are in the spotlight though (like Carr or Biggio). People are people whether they are tax accountants or wide receivers. Nobody is any more important than anyone else. People should look within their own families and within their own communities (like your Church, school or comparable organization) for their role models (somebody you know....really know). I don’t know why people want to put people blessed with speed or strength on a pedestal to be admired like intellectuals should be.

Truer words were never spoken. Now maybe we should start to treat them (teachers, doctors, military etc..)and pay them like the role models they are instead of giving 10 million dollars to anyone who can throw a ball a 100 miles per hour. Not saying a teacher should make 10 million but you know what I mean.

I dont mean you have to pay them as much as pro athletes and I believe I stated that, just that they deserve to make more. And what revenue is really worth more than the education and furthurment of our childern. I do understand where your coming from Vinny and I do think that athletes deserve their earnings because they do generate alot of revenue for their employees but I'm just saying that they(teachers, military, fire fighters and others) deserve to be held in higher esteem when looking at "role models" and they deserve to be paid more.

I think teachers are one of the worst role models, they're always so smart but in the end their dumb enough to work for hardly no money. Thats the way I see it.

Theres few athletes that i can consider role models, but in the newer generation there arent many. but if u look back in the past 20-30 years there were some real good people out there, speakin of someone who just sadly recently passed away sam mills.

Couldn't it just be that in the end, some people would rather reflect upon their lives and think, "I made a difference in the lives of a few people" instead of thinking, "I made a lot of money, yippy"? Money is good and all, don't get me wrong, but it isn't everything...

Your right but there arn't many teachers like that now, the ones I've had in recent years definently don't deserve to be called role models. They're all paranoid or really scared of their students. One day we had a sub and she just came and shouted "I don't want any of ya'll to make a noise or I'll get krunk wit u! (someboy smacks lips) Who just did that?! Huh?! You were brave enough to smack your lips now be brave to say you did it!" We hadn't done anything and this teacher automatically thought we were all gangsters! I only know 3 teachers that are good role models so really I think teachers aren't role models, good teachers are role models (but I mean really good teachers).

I've really lost it for baseball. But, I think that Art Howe would be a good candidate.
Personally I like Charleton Heston. I know, he wasn't a pro athlete. But, he spoke from the heart.

As for Jordan, he wasn't the best role model. At times he seemed to openly flaunt his gambling problems, and marital infidelity.

You won't find many true role models in the sports world, but I think guys like Troy Brown or Maurice Cheeks are someone kids could look up to.
