Best and Worst NCAA football fans

Yankee_In_TX

Dance Lindsay!
Just for fun, a chance to give props and to slam people.

For me...

Best - A&M. We went for the Nebraska/A&M game in 06. Despite A&M losing in the finals minutes of the game, no one harassed us or spewed foul langauge at us. When we got to Northgate, the Aggies said what a great game it was, a few people offered to buy beers. (granted, maybe it's a different experience if you're a Longhorn, lol!)

Worst - I thought it was Ohio State, until the BCS game. I have to go with LSU. Don't get me wrong, TONS of LSU fans were really nice and interesting to chat with. However, IMO, the scores of people (read - the college age fans) yelling "Tiger Bait" so close to your ear that their chest is pushing up against your shoulder, well... That's 100 times more annoying than general or foul smack talk from someone walking by you (which OSU does a LOT of!).

BAYLOR FOOTBALL FANS ARE PATHETIC.....as a whole

I love baylor Football, but kids at the school SUCK!!!! they look at a 12 O'clock start as annoying and wont go because its "too early". They are pathetic in every meaning of the word.....

I would have to agree 100% that it is LSU followed closely by OSU, OSU would not be bad but man they drink way to much and a fight can easily breakout or a couch gets accidently put on fire.

PSU is up there as far as some of the best, very respectful and they give it to you but not in a want to punch them in the face way but in the true spirit of college sports.

Thanks for the props for the Aggie fans. I know I am biased, but I think the Aggies are great fans. Knowledgable about the game and conscious for the most part (there are always some bad ones in a bunch) about being courteous.

Some of this may have to do with alcohol consumption. This may have changed over the years, but drinking was never a big part of going to an Aggie game.

We went to an LSU/ A&M game years ago in Baton Rouge. Terrible experience. The fans were drunk and obnoxious.

So overall, I have to agree with you 100%.

I'm glad you had a good experience here in Aggieland! Most of us can lose (and even win) with dignity and respect.

I have not had an experience with LSU fans but I am with you.... I have heard nothing but bad things about them.

P.S. - You are probably right about the Longhorn thing. :tease:

I didn't realize what poor sports we were until I started going to away games. It's like, hey, they're not threatening to kill me and my extended family, what gives?

As for our infamous riots, I can testify first hand that the trouble always started with non-students (we are an urban campus, and a lot of non-students live[d] across the street from OSU - since then all the low income/subsidized housing and 3/4 of our bars were bull dozed for "progess" - i.e. Barnes and Noble and "Eddie George's Grill," etc.).

Worst A&M -

Lived in aggieland for years and Never have cared for the team or school. The fans really for the most part aren't that knowledgeable(least the bulk of the ones I have met). They consistantly display a little brother complex to UT in so many respects and the culmination of every year it seems the goal to beat UT at anything. They love to talk except when stepping up to elite competition but when they lay a goose egg on national TV they fall back on the two UT wins the past two years. Pathetic IMO. (waiting for your neg rep again Lucky13 and you are so true to your maroon heart to give it to me again). On the flipside Some UT fans aren't much better :)

Close 2nd USC

Best -

I think I Agree with you Spec on PSU. The class of Joe Pa. kind of trickles down I think. Sad day for college football when he finally steps down.

I will have to say Notre Dame is not the worst but they are also not the best, some ND fans do have that entitlement crap going on. which sucks, they should be classier than that. on any list I can honestly see them being put in the top 10.

Have to give my team what it deserves.

From my personal experiences:

Worst:
Hawaii (never seen em' but I've heard stories)
Ohio St
Texas A&M
Oklahoma

Best:
Penn St
USF
Oregon
Colorado

Smirk.

Good to see you still can't stomach anything bad said about your Ags. Thanks for the neg rep and the class you're supposed to show. I'm willing to bet you sat beside the yell-leader who made that classy Paterno comment.

Well the obvious trend here is that the two guys who are devoted UT fans have had bad experiences with A&M fans. I am not surprised by that.

We generally display a wide array of hospitality, but when it comes to t.u.... all bets are off. It is to be expected.

In truth I wouldn't expect less. Doesn't change how I feel about my time in CS.

From just all around expereince

Worst

Aggies--These guys are still my best friends but in the mid to late 90s it was all Aggie talk all the time and nothing that happened was ever wrong. They were obsessed with UT or talking about recruiting or something. It was beyond annoying. They have gotten better with age but that stuck with me

Longhorns--While I love the Horns and grew up a Horn lover and had brothers that went there....as a fanbase I always laugh when watching games because some ref is either screwing them or a coach sucks. This has gotten better too.

Stanford: My best friend who is a Jags coach now was D Coordinator out there and played out there. I lived with him for about 2-3 months in 2002. Talk about wine and cheese. Not only that but they were older with headphones and really didnd't care. A big change from when I saw him play from the sidelines against Notre Dame and Bettis and those guys on ESPN.

SMU: Bad teams and a bad inferiority complex that makes them still talk.

Best:

Nebraska: They know football. I remember when TCU played them years ago and TCU gave them a good game people cheered and congratulated TCU. The same thing when Major beat them up there. They remind me of St. Louis baseball fans..knowledgeable and will appreciate a good game.

TCU: I mean we are cool

You and I must have been at the same LSU / A&M game. The fans were not only rude, but I had the pleasure of wearing someone's pizza (thrown, not re-gurged) while exiting the stadium. I was simply appalled.

Some of my friends went to LSU. Otherwise, very nice people. I just chalk up the idiocy to drunken "group think." I'm in no hurry to return.

F for hospitality. D for spirit. (A&M won that game, as I recall...hence the throwing of food, I suppose.)
