2-Miami-Ronnie Brown (desperate for a good running back)

3-Cleveland-Aaron Rodgers (They need their future QB right here)

4-Chicago-Mike Williams (Moose is older and only a temporary fix)

5-Tampa Bay-Cadillac Williams (Gruden loves him)

6-Houston from Tenn-Derrick Johnson- I think with Tenn doing a massive rebuild they will want to trade down and pick up some extra draft picks. We give them our 1st and 2 3rds to move up. We will most likely still have another 3rd from dealing Sharper somewhere or we could possibly give up a 3rd from the 2006 draft and keep one this year. Besides, Tenn showed its willingness to trade with us last year so we continue the tradition this year.

7-Minnesota-Braylon Edwards (replacement for Moss)

8-Arizona-Cedrick Benson (could change if the Cards pick up Travis Henry)

9-Washington-Pac Man Jones (replacement for Smoot)

10-Detroit-Marcus Spears (This will give the Lions a good dl)

11-Dallas-Shawne Merriman (They need LB and he is a good one)

12-San Diego-Troy Williamson (Someone to catch the ball besides Gates)

13-Tennessee from Houston-Antrel Rolle (lost both starting corners)

14-Carolina-Alex Barron (Can't pass him up at this point)

15-KC-Dan Cody (They need defenseive help bad)

16-New Orleans-Travis Johnson (Their dl needs help)

17-Cincinnati-Carlos Rogers (Too good to pass up here)

18-Minnesota-Erasmus James (Will terrorize opposite of Udeze and he is from their own backyard)

If we move up to 6 - I think it would be for Braylon Edwards.

DJ could be agreat player - but is he the right fit? Does he play ILB or OLB? IF OLB, can he pass rush?

Edwards and AJ would present the same problems people use to have with Rice/Taylor.
 
I dont like the idea of trading up that high for DJ. You are at #13. See who falls. I would much rather take a player like Rolle, or Barron.
 
Wow...Yet another Texan fan mock with us trading up for DJ :thumbdown ...I guess we'll have to wait until April 23rd before people shut up about trading up for DJ...He truly is this year's Sean Taylor, in that respect...
 
I agree all the way i dont think that dj will fit very well in a 3-4 i would rather us get shawne merriman
 
First of All the Titans want to move up and get Johnson themselves... Cleveland wants him with the #3 pick... Its gonnna be difficult...

What if Scenario
#6 pick is 1600

#13 pick is 1150
sharper could be like 300-350
#2 is like 430
#73 is 220
#78 is 200

13 & sharper is max 1400 and a #3 to move up and the player might not be there.

I think we are better off Trading Sharper and a #2 to Pittsburg and drafting Darryl Blackstock
with the #13 pick draft Troy Williamson

thats hits our 2 biggest needs.

we still have 2 #3's, 1 #4, 1 #5, 1 #6, and 2 #7's

They have a hundred holes to fill--hard to see justifying giving up several players to fill one hole in their position. They seem like a team that very well could try to deal down to pick up extra 2nd and 3rd rounders to fill out their roster.

would i like to see Johnson here. Yes! but then the Browns, Titans, and Vikings of the world wont let it happen.. The cost of trading up that far is too much. Thats all i saying.
 
Moving up that high would not be smart. I think DJ is becoming like Sean from the previous draft, but we can actually get him. I mean we would have had to drastically overspend to get Sean, but if DJ by some chance falls to eight or nine then the value of those picks are well within our reach without giving up our draft.
 
Everything is a calculated risk. If the Texans see the payoff high enough for DJ then they will take the chance when appropriate. I could see us trying to draft him at 9 or 10, but the main philosphy of the Texans organization is to build through the draft and fill holes with FA not the other way around.

If we trade away too many picks then that forces the organization to pickup FA that otherwise might not be considered.
 
Yes the hype to move up is very similar for Sean Taylor and DJ, but one consideration makes the decision whether to actually do so somewhat different. GM's talk about building through the draft because of the cap. Free agent deals for high talent players are done at or above the franchise tag numbers. Draft picks even at the top of the draft can be brought in to play most positions at salaries below the franchise number. For example Dunta Robinson's contract is about $2 mil on average per year on the cap--the franchise tag last year for CB's was about $7 mil (this year it is $8.8 mil)--huge savings over going out and getting a top CB in free agency. Taylor at safety was in an entirely different position. Aside from all the picks the Texans would have had to give up, the Texans would have had to instantly make him one of if not the highest paid safety in the NFL. The 2004 franchise tag for safeties was $4.1 mil. Taylor signed a contract that over 6 years could pay $40 mil--$6.67 mil on average. DJ plays LB which demands a higher market value. The 2005 franchise tag is $5.95 mil so somewhere around the 7th pick in the draft or below, DJ becomes a value pick.

Just something to consider on DJ and in deciding where guys are going. QB's, CB's and WR's have by far the highest salaries--that is part of why they creep to the top of the draft.
 
good point infantry. that is a very smart move. I think if he falls past the vikings we will at least make a call to Arizona and Washington, that does not mean we will get him, but a call would not be bad.

Derrick Johnson will not, I repeat not fall past the Vikings, unless they've traded up to guarntee getting Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards.
 
The Vikings won't need to trade up to take Williams. He's almost certain to be there at 7, and they'll probably take him.
 
good point mr. shush. I think Williams will be available at 7. Hell both receivers could possibly be available if the top 5 go straight for needs. That would mean 2 qbs, 3 runningbacks and a corner which would leave Minn. with the ability to pick either WR. At that point their pick would be the most valuable in the draft. the thing is it is very very likely that DJ could be around at 8 and 9. The problem with trying to pick is every team other than minnesota has so many holes to fill you feel like you are in south korea.

I wouldn't mind swiching picks with Detroit, giving them Sharper and they could still draft Marcus Spears :thumbup
 
beer lover are we talking just switching and giving up sharper. Because that would be a hell of a steal, but then I would want to trade down and pick up some picks. 10-18 are about the same as far as quality of players in this draft, but then they said that when Ray Lewis was picked 20 something by baltimore.

I don't think so...Allegedly, Gruden ensured Williams he would be their pick if he was available at 5 when they met at the combine...But then again, he told the same thing to Cadillac at the Senior Bowl, so I'm conflicted...

Millen or Parcells could both use Sharper it would depend who is ranked where on their draft board and from that list who was still available or projected to be there @ #13 for them to switch 1st rounders.

The Chargers may be the more logical choice, they also could use Sharper (with restructerd contract) and take him in exchange for swaping places, the Texans would be sure to get Williamson @ #12 and the Chargers could take Barron (or who they had targeted all along) although some rumors I've heard is that they are interested in Williamson too. just throwing ideas out there :idea:
