BCKEY's 7 round Texans mock

bckey

All Pro
1-Clay Matthews LB
2-Michael Johnson DE
3-Jairus Byrd CB
4-Cedric Peerman RB
4-Chris Clemons FS
5-Terrance Taylor DT
6-Trevor Canfield G
7-Blake Schlueter C

I would like to see the Texans pickup Frank "the tank" Summers RB but the Steelers are after this guy and if he goes undrafted that is probably where he will end up. They may pickup Chris Ogbonnaya RB from Texas if Summers isn't available or if they like him better. I believe the Texans will sign a TE, WR, QB and some more defensive players that go undrafted. I wish there was some way we could land Alex Mack C but I just don't see it with all our holes on defense.

Question on Peerman, how do you respond to evaluation that he is not that good but some teams love his speed? I have him in round 5. I like Canfield with first pick in 4th. I am afraid he will be gone before we draft in 3rd. I have Gartell Johnson for my power back in 6th.

Not a bad draft Bckey. Can definetely live with that. Not that it matters, but I'll throw mine up here as well. I think they will try hard to trade down and pick up another pick, but my draft doesn't include that. It's just too hard to forecast.

rd 1 - Clay Matthews OLB USC - Could go several different ways, but ultimately this guy has tremendous upside and will start early in his career.

rd 2 - Darius Butler CB Uconn - I heard somewhere that the Texans are high on Butler so putting him here as the pick. Can play the slot while he learns and should eventually take over for Reeves.

rd 3 - Brandon Williams DE Texas Tech - Pass rusher with good speed and burst who can add enough bulk and muscle to eventually be an every down end. For starters, he's your 3rd down guy.

rd 4 - Emanuel Cook SS South Carolina - Add another Gamecock to the secondary! 3rd time is a charm. Arrested on a gun charge, so not sure if he fits here. Also a little short but he is fearless and a good hitter and tackler. Exactly what we need at SS to pair with Eugene Wilson.

Rd 4 - Arian Foster RB Tennesee - Good size at about 230, good leg drive, shows good potential as a pile mover/short yardage back. And not slow either. Just what we need to backup Slaton.

rd 5 - Cecil Newton C Tennessee State - Could also play guard. Admittedly, didn't watch him play, but he seems to have what it takes to excel in our scheme. Could eject our current C in short order. At worst, a versatile interior lineman who can backup 3 positions.

rd 6 - Anthony Hill TE N.C. State - They need a potential replacement for Bruener and I think Hill has that potential. Main concern was a torn ACL in 2007, but he can block well and is a decent target in the short to intermiediate areas.

Rd 7 - Rudy Carpenter QB Arizona State - The QB project of the year for Kubiak. Has some tools and some mobility, but his arm strength is questioned. He is as good as choice as any this late in the draft.

My draft addresses all three levels of the D with key additions early, including two in the secondary. Then it addresses depth needs on offense with the last 4 picks, although it wouldn't suprise me if Newton eventually started.

IMO, Butler will not be there for our 2nd and the 3rd's way too early for Williams. I don't think Cook will last that long either.

BTW, where do you think Brandon Williams will land? I'm very high on him. I have him in the 3rd or 4th at worst.

I know the question wasn't directed at me Porky but I have him in the middle of the 4th.

Ya, I have him mid 3rd to mid 4th somewhere. I don't think a mid 3rd is too high. He said way too high. I was just curious about where he thought he might land. I could be totally wrong on the guy, but I think he has very good potential.

I was thinking somewhere between 4-6. But, the way team's value pass rushing DE's, he could very well go in the 3rd. I could be way off base, Porky.

If we haven't addressed DE by the 4th I would use our first one on him.
