Baylor QB, Griffin III...thoughts???

GP

Go Texans!
Anybody think it might be time to draft a guy like Griffin III and sit him a year or two while he watches Schaub?

I'd personally like someone at QB for the Texans, in the future, who can be more mobile than Schaub.

I saw his interception tonight vs. KSU...someone slammed into his knees right as he was releasing the ball and it made the pass go wonky on him--It was not like he threw it intentionally into that LB's hands.

He's got a hell of an arm and a quick release .... Accuracy on the deep ball is really good.

Only watched about a quarter of the game today .... and that was my first time watching him , I came away impressed.

That Baylor WR .... forget his name , has some great hands too.

#1....yeah, he could be a good one in the NFL. I agree.

LOVE THE GUY...

Here's what I posted on the Jags board.

The big 12 (If you can even call it that anymore) is quietly a STACKED conference this year....hell even Baylor with RG3. (Who BTW is going to make ONE HELL OF A NFL PROSPECT. He is light years ahead in his passing abilities compared to where Mike Vick was at on the collegiate level. He's a great kid too, no character issues at all...very bright and grounded. And at 6'2 and 220 pounds, he has plus size compared to Vick which should help him avoid injury a lot better than Vick. He's a great athlete. Baylor is lucky to have him, he is their entire football program right now.

RG3 is going to be one hell of a player at the next level.

What kills me in that quote was A&Ms collapse, I was really high on them on that board...even predicted them to beat OU. Oh well, I guess that can still happen. They need to nutt up, A&M is possibly the most talented team in this conference and they continue to find ways to lose, but that's for another thread.

Yeah, I would take him. It depends on how the rest of the season goes and who is available, but I think he could be something special.

I think more teams would be looking to draft a guy like Robert Griffin III because of how well Cam Newton is playing for the Panthers. This is a copy cat league and trust me teams will be interested in getting the next Newton. I think Griffin will go pretty high if he keeps playing the way he's playing. I don't think he'll be no.1 pick because Andrew Luck is pretty much a lock at that spot. But it won't surprise me if he goes somewhere in the top 5.

It could be a very strong QB class though. Luck, Barkley, Jones, Tannehill, Griffin, Weedon, Cousins, Lindley, Foles, Wilson, Moore, that is cbssportsline's top 11. That is a hell of a list. And it is a strong year for WRs and ILBs. Some players have to drop.

agreed.:cool:question is how will this impact Texans? are we good with Schaub, Leinart & Yates? I happen to believe Moore has a chance to be next Aaron Rodgers.

I am all for drafting another QB. Where? I dont know. I am certainly intrigued by the upper tier guys (guys expected to go in rounds 1 and 2), but a guy like Moore (I have a round 3 grade, but expect him to go no sooner than the 4th) allows the Texans to draft another position early and still grab a QB.

Moore is not the pure athlete that Rodgers is, but his arm (especially accuracy), mind, and leadership are on that level.

We have to many holes to draft a QB imo. Schaub is good for 2-3 years. i'll see maybe 2013 draft if then. We need CB2, WR2, NT, ILB and at least one Oline that can play guard and tackle. That's 5 rounds. We have a good prospect behind Schaub now.

Voice of common sense... bah.

These guys have talent, it is hard to pass on them. However, you are right, there are other, more pressing holes to fill.

Kendall Wright makes Griffin look better than he is. And that's not even a knock on Griffin, who I love.

Wright does not get the credit he deserves. Anybody see that TD catch on 4th down? Good lord.

RG3 is only a jr.

But if he comes out, even with all of the Texans needs I still would take him. He has a very rare quality arm/elite mobility/accuracy/ability to process info quickly.

I think he has a chance to be another Steve Young.

Regardless Kendall Wright is somebody the Texans should take in the 3rd/4th rd.

yeah , that was a hell of a catch .....

Who? Yates?

I think it is a bit early to state that. Not too often good prospects go that late. (Tom Brady expemption in effect).

Matt Cassell, Brian Hoyer???......all players that went "that late" and to the same team. There's plenty of good prospects that go that late.

Griffin was kicking *** and taking names well before Kendall Wright ever broke out this season. Kendall Wright is simply a NFL caliber prospect, which is exactly the type of receivers Griffin is going to be throwing the ball to once he comes into the league. This guy is a future star. With the way the NFL now plays their game, he's tailor made for this current league.

Aaron Rodgers sat on the bench behind Farve three years, never complained or made much fuss but Packers front office felt comfortable letting Brett Farve media circus take his talents elsewhere because they had Aaron in the wings. The rest they say is history, one Superbowl later (= Farve) & looking like the best QB in the NFL (Manning shelved).

Also remember Aaron sitting in the NFL Draft Green Room for an embarrassing amount of time, when GB selected him #24 overall in that 05 draft much to chagrin of experts (didn't need a QB this high, still had Farve). Which shows all good things come to those who wait. That being said if Griffin III came out he wouldn't last to Texans selection but if he did Griffin certainly could fall into a similar situation here in Houston.

Like I said, I love Griffin and I'm not trying to knock him. That kid is special. He's been a star since his freshman year.

But you are underselling Wright. Just because you didn't know who he was until this year doesn't mean that he wasn't on the NFL radar already.

As a senior, this guy is leading the nation in receiving so far this year.

As a junior, he was Baylor's leading receiver.

As a sophomore, he was Baylor's leading receiver.

As a freshman, he was Baylor's leading receiver.

It's not like he just popped up out of nowhere. He was recruited in the same class as Griffin and he's been kicking ass just as long.

This is how I would grade the top WR options for Texans each round including Wright - solid 3rd rd. Broyles 2nd. Jeffery Alshon a 1st. If Sanu would come out he's my guy, period.

One difference is that Favre was LOVED in Green Bay. Schaub is not loved like that in Htown. In GB, a bad game did not mean the crowd was clamoring to put Rogers in, far from it. They fans loved and believed in Favre. A sizable portion were pissed when Rogers was elevated ahead of Favre.

I don't think Schaub has eanred that kind of support in Htown. He hasn't won multiple MVPs, he is not the face of the franchise(AJ is), and gets second guessed here all the time. Favre was second guessed in GB, elsewhere, maybe, but not in GB.

Griffin's knock is that once he starts getting consistent pressure or get's hit hard a few times, his game shuts down.

Let's see how he does against the better teams in the conference. Baylor hasn't played anyone really good yet.

his knock is that he's running the same offense as Vince Young. one read and done. not much to think about. doesn't really translate to the NFL.

but, his talent is definitely there. he's bizarrely accurate. and quite athletically gifted, well beyond Young.

He's faster than Young, though VY was a better ball carrier. Not a knock on Griffin though. He is more than efficient as a runner.

He's also smarter and more accurate.

I agree. I think he is easily a better prospect.

I think so too , mainly because he can throw the ball .... accurately.

He doesnt rely as much on mobility and has a much better release - VY has a funky throwing motion .... long windup.

I watch alot of Baylor games sense my future sister in law goes there. I like the kid alot BUT he gets dinged very often. PArt his play style, part because he has a very small frame. I would spend a two or three, but he will get picked early cause of the Cam Newton factor.

Not likely that Griffin will come out this year. He has repeatedly mentioned staying for his senior year so he can go to law school. The guy got his degree in political science in three years...very very smart, classy guy. His accuracy with the deep ball would be lethal with Andre. Just imagine Dre not having to camp under a ball for 2-3 seconds after beating his man!

I've been saying all year we should draft RG3 when he comes out, whether that is this year or next. He has the brains and the brawn.

As of now, Kendall Wright(#1) is a projected 2-3 round draft pick. That may be because of his size, I think he's listed around 5'10. I've seen him around campus and I would say he is definitely pushing 6'0.

I know the Texans like drafting "character guys" which makes me even more optimistic about either one of the above stated players come to Houston. Unlike many college football players, Kendall and RG3 seem to have their heads on straight. Even if you see them out at a party, they aren't drinking/smoking or really doing anything that could jeopardize their careers.

WR is an obvious need for this team, and like many have mentioned, when a great talent like RG3 is available, even if you are currently set at QB, it's not a bad idea to let the guy marinate for a few years.

I'd take him in a heartbeat...

Great or even good QB play will keep you in almost every game. Plus a mobile QB that could also throw would be sick in this offense.

RG3 needs to come out if he keeps it up . Tell him to ask the Texans backup QB for advice .

If you can't tell by my sig, I LOVE the idea of RGIII in steel blue. He has a pretty strong arm and is a pretty accurate thrower. Makes the bootleg game absolutly LEATHAL, and would have a pretty damn good offense to step into. You see less talented teams hit lightning in a bottle with a rookie QB and a new head coach, so why not? Our D looks good enough that it could weather some inconsistancy. Great oline, running game, 2 good tight ends, 2 good running backs. Why not? Too bad we wont do it. 8-8, injury excuses, no offseason, Gary and Co back, awful season next year, some random excuses, blah rinse repeat. Kill me

I don't think Griffin will come out this year. He would likely be the 4th QB drafted, but could be a top 5 pick next year. Also, someone around here was saying that he's very interested in getting his degree and isn't at school for football alone. Either way, I can't say I wouldn't want him on the Texans :)

He also wants to tryout for the olympics .
