Meh, I can't see Browns kicking him to the kerb just yet. They have been relevant over the last few years with him at the helm.
I could see them trying a new direction with coaching first - or improving the roster.

I'm having a harder time seeing another team trading for Mayfield's one year $18 million contract. It's guaranteed, so the Browns have to trade him to get out from under that cap hit.

Hmm...maybe Caserio would take a 2nd round pick from the Browns and take Mayfield's contract? Seems fair, considering.

I think Caserio can get a little more than that if the Browns truly want to cut bait. Maybe a 2nd round pick and Kareem Hunt?

Nope. Too early in the "yet-to-start-rebuild" to worry about a QB. Play Mills and continue to build the trenches on both sides of the ball.

As far as putting butts in the seats, fire Easterby.
Not that I care if they fire him or not but do you really think the average fan knows or cares who Easterby is? Other than the SI article, which I doubt to many read or if they did remember, he's not someone you hear much about really. What would put butts in seats is winning some games, covid not being a thing and our star QB not being accused by 20+ women. If those 3 things change seats will be filled whether Easterby is there or not.

The answer is no. Firing Easterby does nothing for the fan base.

The average fans thinks our QB is David Mills. The same fan who still thinks our TE was Daniel Owens. Probably thinks DW is sitting waiting for a trade and nothing else.

If you are on this message board you are .1% of fans that have intimate knowledge about the franchise.

Oh man, I have seen some dumbass **** posted on the Texans FB page. It's hard to believe how stupid and ill-informed some of those people are.

His coach was Coach of the Year just last season and the roster has been tailor-made for a QB with exactly Baker's extreme limitations.

And they've got to sh*t or get off the pot in terms of tying up valuable roster-improving cap space on him starting next year.

What more can they do just for Baker?

Why are you so much on the fire Easterby train?

Baker was playing hurt this yr when he shouldn't have been playing. Baker being the tough guy was actually hurting his team.

Jimmy G is solid. Kirk Cousins is solid. Tua is solid. David Carr is solid. Teams don't want a solid QB.

BTW, the Texans was the 2nd game of the season. So he was solid for one game you're saying?
He's been hurt all yr.

That's a completely fair point.

Doesn't really change my point though as even when healthy he's only so much of a starting QB, and one that will be looking to cash in soon thus limiting the roster options around him that are needed to offset his limitations.

And I say all that actually rather rooting for the guy. I like his competitive nature quite a lot.

Sure they do. Read comments sections, listen to the radio, talk to fans, read this forum.

First time in team history - even after multiple 2-14 seasons - that folks are giving up their PSLs, the waiting list is gone, and you can't even give away tickets.

You act like the fans are a bunch of dummies that have no clue. I, on the other hand, believe that fans know a lot more about things.

Winning puts butts in the seats, obviously, but part of winning is building something positive to be a part of. Having Easterby's toxic BS and past is counter-intuitive to that goal. He's a symbol of the failure of Cal McNair.

Agreed,

Why are you so much on the fire Easterby train?
lmao Do you not read this forum? :um:

I'm a Texans fan that wants positive things for the franchise, and he's detrimental to that cause. Why are you an Easterboy? lol

I'm indifferent about Easterby.

I dont think he's really got much of a role down on Kirby, other than to be a conduit between Ownership and the players. I happen to believe that many (Not you) dont like him because of his religious belifs and the fact that they consider him to be a phony. I've never met the man before or have I seen enough evidence to suggest that this is true. I'm very happy he was part of the equation to lure Caserio to Kirby.

In short I believe you and alot of fans have bought into the media BS that's been put out there by long time Bob McNair people that were let go and had an axe to grind. Fact is I'm very happy that faction of the FO is gone since in give or take they did very little to help promote putting a contending team on the field. In fact they may have been a detriment to putting a contending team on the field since under Bob McNair's and their leadership the Texans didn't have to put a winning team on the field to become one of the most profitable franchises in the NFL.

Now that Easterby's in the building the only way to get the fans back into the stadium is going to be by having to build a contending on field product. The Vinny saying of the Houston Texans are a marketing team with a football division is finally dead and buried and I'm so glad that this finally happened. It's about time.

Whether we like it or not Easterby being down on Kirby has forced the Texans org to change the way they've done business since their inception. With this said if I read tomorrow Cal fired Easterby I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought. As a person or an employee he's very insignificant to me and how the Texans operate and in a weird way has served his purpose very well in doing what he was hired to do. Effect change and take out the trash in both the FO/On field side of the Texans org.

Change is difficult, but change was badly needed if the Texans are ever going to be true contenders on the field.

2021 Building Block 1 / Go Texans
Wouldn’t it be nice to return the favor to Cleveland? Lucky was onto something and I’ll take that line of thinking up another notch.

Browns need a QB1 and the Texans have one just sitting around collecting dust. Browns have to ditch Mayfield since he has failed to live up to his draft status, especially after the Browns have really built a very good team around him.

Browns Get:
Deshaun Watson

Texans Get:
Baker Mayfield
RD1-13-013
RD2-13-045 **Taking on BM contract**
RD3-13-077
RD4-02-104
2023
RD1 & RD2
2024
RD1 & RD3

Texans have no need for Baker Mayfield and find a suitor:

Bears Get:
QB- Baker Mayfield **1 Season**

Texans Get:
QB- Nick Foles

This trade works for both teams based on who the current starters are…..Mayfield could push Fields in Chicago and Foles would be a solid mentor/QB2 to Mills.

Thoughts or comments? To me, I’m open to it. We have a clean palette to work with so, what’s to lose? Of course, I’m an eternal optimist when it comes to Houston football so…roses, cherries, koolaide, yada yada yada...

The media never wants us to have anything good. This is a Trojan Horse.

It’s not that I think they are dummies I just don’t think they care as much as you think they do. Most people that go to games, particularly Texas teams games, is the tailgate and the experience.

You are acting like Easterby is the sole reason, or even a big reason, that fans aren't going to games. In this age of Covid, horrible economy, highest inflation in 40 years, hyper politicized league with players using the games to push their own political ideas and frankly just bad play on the field with refs completely ruining more games than ever do you really think firing Easterby is going to cause anybody to go “Okay now I’ll start going to games again”? Hell even the meat people would buy to BBQ would cost them the price of a ticket right now.

Again I don’t care if they fire him or not, I just don’t think it will make any difference one way or the other and that you are giving him way to much credit/blame.

The primary fallacy in this article isn't that all these teams want him, it's that he's worth writing about in the first place. I can't remember the last time a QB has been marketed for this long while delivering so little.

I used the word awful because he's one of those QB's just good enough to keep you from drafting another one, but somehow doesn't come thru when he needs to throw the team on his back and it matters most. He's middle of the road to me.
This.

It's called Mediocrity Hell. I've come close to saying Schaub kept us there, but Schaub in his prime was pretty good, and much better than Mayfield.

I haven’t seen much football this season apart from the Texans, so I don’t really know what’s been up with Baker Mayfield, but I would think that he is a prime candidate to have a really good career as a reclaimation project.

I would not view any trade as being a 1 year loan but an investment in the next 10 years, with the chance to save ourselves a high top 10 QB pick, or even multiple.

Watson for Baker, Kareem Hunt and some draft compensation would be a serious haul to me. Even if Mayfield can’t be what he should be, solve the running back position, fix OL through the draft. I’d be optimistic.

Great comments and insight mi amigos. Being in Kansas, I get zero chance to see games, that being said…

What is your thoughts and comments on Mills moving forward from here? Is he a solid QB for moving forward?
