But that 2018 Draft - talk about busts because between Mayfield & Josh Rosen & Sam Arnold those socalled "Draft experts" missed it by a mile on three different first round QBs including of course the first overall !

I was wondering what was driving the obsession with Easterby. In Austin I never hear those guys, but it sounds like they're making him out to be Rasputin.
OB and Watson -- They share the crown for causing the most damage to the franchise. They suicide bombed it internally. They're worse than either Casserly or Albert Haynesworth.
Some fans need to find a villain. Easterby is their guy.

I figure it was the Josh McCown as HC debacle. Apparently, Janice loved her some McCown.
Fortunately, Cal put his foot down in light of the public scrutiny due the Flores lawsuit.
That's rich from you, man, after years of you villainizing Rick Smith and Deshaun Watson.
Easterby is nothing but a pimple on a frog's ass. Fortunatley, SI did a solid job of making sure that pimple is now benign.

I do believe that Janice, Cal and Janick Casereby were all-in on McCown. However, it started with Brian Flores getting fired and why Culley got fired. Flores was a BIGtime Casereby buddy from their Patriot days. Flores was going to be the next Houston HC until he filed his lawsuit. Then there was a brief 3 interview fling with McCown until the same lawsuit sank his ship. And when Johnathan Gannon withdrew his name because he would not be allowed to hire his own staff the Boardroom was back at square 1 and in a worse FUBAR/SNAFU than the year before.
So instead of starting all over again and becoming even a bigger inept laughing stock than they already were, they (Cal and Janice) turned to Lovie and Lovie agreed as long as it was on his terms, his rules, and his team. Cal and Janice agreed and explained the news to Janick Casereby and they both quickly agreed because they understood they were in the same boat as Zac Mayo, they had nowhere else to go.

exactly right and yet people defend these people because they want to win? It’s sheer incompetence and until the McNairs sell this team they be be mediocre at best in the long term. I do think they may have back doored and lucked their way into the best possible choice in Lovie, but like Water…luck tends to find its level.
until Cal wakes up from his stupor, fires Easterbunny, makes consistently good, smart decisions, and tells Mama to sit down and zip it…this team is a dumpster fire and I await the next FUBAR.
I don't villanize RS. He just wasn't good at his job and should have been fired after 2010. I looked at everything after that as wasted time.

That friendship seem to end the minute Watson was no longer the one deciding how many times Hopkins would be targeted. Of course if Hopkins was smart, which I think he mostly is, then he would put as much distance from all of Watson’s issues as possible. He does not want to get people asking what he did and did not know.

Honestly I don’t think SI had anything to do with it. It was a forgettable hit pieces article years ago about a football team few outside of Houston care about. If anything I think it was getting a real GM with a plan, good or bad, and a contract giving the McNairs 30 million reasons to let him do his job.

So if it’s good then it’s Lovie but if it’s bad then it’s Caserio and if there is any hint of confusion it’s Caserio, Easterby and the McNairs right? The biggest instance and one that @steelbtexan mentioned above was forcing the Hopkins trade but there have been many smaller decisions since. Ultimately, she is the owner.
The latest - Josh McCown. That was shut down by Cal, he absolutely refused the idea.
You got the instance right but the reason wrong.
Cal stated point blank that Josh McCown was not qualified. It had nothing to do with the Flores lawsuit - Hiring Lovie just had the added bonus of blowing up the premise of the lawsuit.
And if you look back at the Texans hiring practices, they have been well ahead of the curve on hiring minorities to GM / HC and coordinator roles.

Every quarterback we had targeted Hopkins the most. He was the best receiver on the team that every last one of those quarterbacks trusted. So why do we continue to bring up the targets?
Cal had Easterby to do his dirty work. He needed to clean that mess up or it was going to get worse.
Another thing Hopkins checked Watson during his rookie year. Dude was balling out of control then.

I was wondering who really was pushing McCown? We’ve all thrown around the idea that McCown was Easterby and Flores/Gannon were Caserio and ultimately they defaulted to Lovie but it sounds like this was a Janice thing. So what did she have a bug in her ear about him, like that he was a clean cut religious man or did she just like the cut of his jib?

The Easterby thing never made sense to me when it all broke….i said it was just too coincidental how he emerged overnight as the architect of all the recent woahs of this team.
And The McCown/Janice McNair thing makes a helluva lot more sense than what those idiots on 610/790 were pushing (it was all easterby).
It sounds much more plausible that momma Mcnair was trying to run things more after BoB died (which is when **** began going off the rails) and just got in over her head. The trade of Nuk…The events that led to the Watson saga…the subsequent hiring of Culley….Cal’s refusal to fire Easterby in the face of public outrage and the Josh McCown as HC thing….it all makes sense now.
Seems that Cal just didn’t want to throw his mom under the bus publicly by declaring she was behind alot of those decisions…

Started long before that, neither the media nor the NFL wanted a team in Houston they wanted a second one in LA but McNair made them an offer they couldn't refuse and LA never had the football fan base for two teams like NY does. Then on top of that they made some really stupid decisions in the early years, and the middle years and the later years, and Texans have always been either ignored by the media or a punching bag for them. Its why I view the talking heads the same way I view monkeys at the zoo, entertaining to watch just remember they fling their own crap and smell their own butts for fun.

Easterby's job was to cleanup the sexual harrassment in the FO and players side of things. A job he did very well and if Caserio does the job we hope he does will have the Texans much better setup for the next decade than the last decade. RS/Derrick didn't need to be villified their actions/job performance speak for themselves.
I've got no love for Easterby, he did the job he was brought in to do. (Cleanup sexual harassment in both the FO/Players side of the org.) He also told Rootes to fire Palcic because she didn't share the same values as the McNairs. I believe this directive came from probably Janice and maybe Calhoun. I dont think it was a coincidence that this article came out shortly after Rootes and Palcic exited Kirby. As you know disgruntled employees are the worst. Particularly longtime disgruntled employees.
I believe McCown was a prospective Janice/Easterby hire and Caserio did what he was told to do. (Interview McCown 3 times.) I also believe McCown would be the HC of the Texans if 1. Flores hadn't happened, 2. Calhoun talked his mother out of the McCown hire.

Mayfield for a 5th should've been an option for the Texans too especially for 1 year. I mean, what do you have to lose trading for a guy who went 7-9 on a team that won 1 game in 2 years before he got there. It seems Texans are always hustling backwards.
So Mayfield would be the missing piece to the Texans 2022 playoff puzzle? Nah. The Texans can lose without Baker as easily as they would have with him. By sitting on his hands, Caserio wins.

There's more to it than that.
When the Browns made the DW4 trade, I doubt they thought they'd only get a conditional 5th from the 2024 draft (iirc) for him. And I also doubt they thought they'd have to eat as much of his salary as they've ended up eating.
They probably proposed to throw Mayfield into the deal, but they were probably overvaluing him and Caserio would probably have lost one of those 1st rounders for him. So I'm fine with how this turned out.

Disagree. We ride and die with Mills this year. If he sucks we get a high draft pick and will draft a QB. If he doesn’t, we will get a middle of the pack draft pick and know not to draft a QB. We will be able to draft elsewhere.
With Baker in the equation then at some point then he immediately would be favored to be the starter or create controversy.
We are still in rebuild mode and Baker doesn’t move this team into a playoff contender. Nor would I want him to be the QB we are building around. He hasn’t shown consistently to be a top tier QB. His contract is up and he gets that much more expensive. Mills is cheap!
Let’s spend money elsewhere. We have next year and the following of two first round draft picks to draft a QB. If it doesn’t work out with Mills we still have time to draft a QB.
