Oh my gosh some intra Board gossip on the ole Texans MB. I dunno how juicy is that ?Don’t forget this MB. Easterby OWNS several people on this board. I mean OWNS them.
I can say with absolute certainty that ownership does care about the quality of the product on the field.
They might not have known how to go about it until they got a GM but Cal wants to win just as much as any of us.
He just has to keep Janice from meddling .... and that's a difficult task when she's the one who ultimately cuts the checks.
Mary Cabot was a fair and honest reporter of Browns news.............up until the Watson era............which has left her in a position of having to carry the Browns' water.
Define "meddling"?I can say with absolute certainty that ownership does care about the quality of the product on the field.

Easterby is a phantom whipping post ..... Those idiots on 610 don't have a clue what a clue is.
99.9% of all the crap is the fault of two people - Teapot and Stinkfinger. OB & Watson.
I was wondering what was driving the obsession with Easterby. In Austin I never hear those guys, but it sounds like they're making him out to be Rasputin.
OB and Watson -- They share the crown for causing the most damage to the franchise. They suicide bombed it internally. They're worse than either Casserly or Albert Haynesworth.
Some fans need to find a villain. Easterby is their guy.
That’s good to hear. I think we have the be of the better GMs in the league who can work the board to find what his coach needs.
If you can, can you give us any insight on the following:
When was the last time Janice interfered?
When was the last time Janice attempted but was talked out of it?
Some fans need to find a villain. Easterby is their guy.
Do you mean Janick Casereby? Some fans need to find a villain. Easterby is their guy.
I do believe that Janice, Cal and Janick Casereby were all-in on McCown. However, it started with Brian Flores getting fired and why Culley got fired. Flores was a BIGtime Casereby buddy from their Patriot days. Flores was going to be the next Houston HC until he filed his lawsuit. Then there was a brief 3 interview fling with McCown until the same lawsuit sank his ship. And when Johnathan Gannon withdrew his name because he would not be allowed to hire his own staff the Boardroom was back at square 1 and in a worse FUBAR/SNAFU than the year before.I figure it was the Josh McCown as HC debacle. Apparently, Janice loved her some McCown.
Fortunately, Cal put his foot down in light of the public scrutiny due the Flores lawsuit.

So instead of starting all over again and becoming even a bigger inept laughing stock than they already were, they (Cal and Janice) turned to Lovie and Lovie agreed as long as it was on his terms, his rules, and his team. Cal and Janice agreed and explained the news to Janick Casereby and they both quickly agreed because they understood they were in the same boat as Zac Mayo, they had nowhere else to go.

That's rich from you, man, after years of you villainizing Rick Smith and Deshaun Watson.
Easterby is nothing but a pimple on a frog's ass. Fortunatley, SI did a solid job of making sure that pimple is now benign.
If there is one thing I have learned after following this team for over 20 years is that Cal is not a leader. He is a follower in the worst way.until Cal wakes up from his stupor, fires Easterbunny, makes consistently good, smart decisions, and tells Mama to sit down and zip it…this team is a dumpster fire and I await the next FUBAR.
Rick Smith endeared himself to Cal in much the same way Jack Easterby has. It's as though Cal and Hannah have to pay someone to be their friend. Smith and Easterby are paid, friends. Do you think the other NFL owners think the Houston Texans are being run by Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker?I don't villanize RS. He just wasn't good at his job and should have been fired after 2010. I looked at everything after that as wasted time.
Derrick's actions speak for themselves.
Telling your GM what kind of player's he can and can't pick.
Talking to the mother of your QB and then making your GM trade your pro bowl wr for peanuts etc....
BTW anybody know what's up with Deeann Watson and Hopkins? We haven't heard from them in a while.

exactly right and yet people defend these people because they want to win? It’s sheer incompetence and until the McNairs sell this team they be be mediocre at best in the long term. I do think they may have back doored and lucked their way into the best possible choice in Lovie, but like Water…luck tends to find its level.

You got the instance right but the reason wrong.I figure it was the Josh McCown as HC debacle. Apparently, Janice loved her some McCown.

Every quarterback we had targeted Hopkins the most. He was the best receiver on the team that every last one of those quarterbacks trusted. So why do we continue to bring up the targets? That friendship seem to end the minute Watson was no longer the one deciding how many times Hopkins would be targeted. Of course if Hopkins was smart, which I think he mostly is, then he would put as much distance from all of Watson’s issues as possible. He does not want to get people asking what he did and did not know.
The biggest instance and one that @steelbtexan mentioned above was forcing the Hopkins trade but there have been many smaller decisions since. Ultimately, she is the owner.
The latest - Josh McCown. That was shut down by Cal, he absolutely refused the idea.
You got the instance right but the reason wrong.
Cal stated point blank that Josh McCown was not qualified. It had nothing to do with the Flores lawsuit - Hiring Lovie just had the added bonus of blowing up the premise of the lawsuit.
And if you look back at the Texans hiring practices, they have been well ahead of the curve on hiring minorities to GM / HC and coordinator roles.
What's all this Janice McNair speculation?I was wondering who really was pushing McCown? We’ve all thrown around the idea that McCown was Easterby and Flores/Gannon were Caserio and ultimately they defaulted to Lovie but it sounds like this was a Janice thing. So what did she have a bug in her ear about him, like that he was a clean cut religious man or did she just like the cut of his jib?
What's all this Janice McNair speculation?
Next you'll be saying Janice's brother/sister/grandson says this or that.

The Easterby thing never made sense to me when it all broke….i said it was just too coincidental how he emerged overnight as the architect of all the recent woahs of this team.
And The McCown/Janice McNair thing makes a helluva lot more sense than what those idiots on 610/790 were pushing (it was all easterby).
It sounds much more plausible that momma Mcnair was trying to run things more after BoB died (which is when **** began going off the rails) and just got in over her head. The trade of Nuk…The events that led to the Watson saga…the subsequent hiring of Culley….Cal’s refusal to fire Easterby in the face of public outrage and the Josh McCown as HC thing….it all makes sense now.
Seems that Cal just didn’t want to throw his mom under the bus publicly by declaring she was behind alot of those decisions…
In a way, I hope you are right. Because this would mean that Cal has to know he has a couple of buffoon knuckleheads sitting in his boardroom. Then again, I highly doubt it after seeing a video of Hannah gushing over how calm Caserio was in Texans' draft war room. The latest - Josh McCown. That was shut down by Cal, he absolutely refused the idea.

Well when you have a few players/ ex players bringing up his name in a negative way. Then the media will spew it as such. Overall they’re saying this is a terribly ran organization from the top to the bottom. Started with the late Mr. Bob McNair comments before he passed away.

Then show us where she meddles. You do realize that Janice, not Cal, actually owns the team and can have final say on anything she wants final say on right?
Then show us where she meddles.
Specifics please, no opining.
Just want to see specifics without opinionated fanspeak. You seriously haven’t been following the thread have you? See @Corrosion post 171 in this thread.

Teapot and Stinkfinger?
I know Hollywood is running out of script ideas but those are horrible Bond villain names.
One sounds like they will tea bag you to death... the other chase you around the room sayin "Smell muh feenguur".
Now we know what that was truly all about....................................................Smell muh feenguur...........................................................

Honestly I don’t think SI had anything to do with it. It was a forgettable hit pieces article years ago about a football team few outside of Houston care about. If anything I think it was getting a real GM with a plan, good or bad, and a contract giving the McNairs 30 million reasons to let him do his job.

Man, I don't care either way, but you've clearly needed a villain and Rick and Deshaun have played that role for you for years. Who is the next object of your ire?
I don't buy the "hit piece" angle without justification. It makes zero sense that lacks credibility, and this "hit piece" nonsense was born of a poster's imagination that is nothing but baseless speculation based on political ideology. Swing, and a miss.
Show me another NFL front office exec that has received that type of scrutiny without any sort of justification from a national media source. Seriously, show me another "hit piece" by SI on a front office exec that was not justified. It should be easy to find since it is an oft-repeated accusation. Saying something over and over does not make it true.
Where there is smoke there is usually fire. I'm not buying the poor-lil-Jack BS. He's a grifter that was caught and was/is fortunate to have extremely gullible bosses.
He's a nothing now simply because we have two actual football men running the organization and Jack provide zero insight into their jobs. It was easy to fool Janice and Cal. Not so much Nick and Lovie.
Cal can say whatever he wants in hindsight, but multiple interviews with McCown over two HC hiring cycles leads us to believe otherwise.
Cal's words are empty when his own actions clearly undermine what he's spewing.
Heck, Lovie admitted that he didn't even know he was being considered until the evening he was hired. C'mon, that's some Captain Obvious connect-the-dots when being objective about it.
Whatever the logic (or lack thereof), we dodged a bullet when they didn't hire the Goldilocks zero-experience "leader of men" backup QB. That his name was even in the mix shows how misguided these owners are. NO OTHER TEAM HAS EVER INTERVIEWED JOSH McCOWN FOR HEAD COACH. The Texans interviewed him 3-4 times. lmao

Huh? What? You're saying no to a minimum of (2) 3rd RD draft picks? Really? Is this you Nick?
Miller made it out of camp and even started some IIRC.Baker went for a conditional 5th. The same thing Anthony <iller went for who didn't make it out of camp.
So Mayfield would be the missing piece to the Texans 2022 playoff puzzle? Nah. The Texans can lose without Baker as easily as they would have with him. By sitting on his hands, Caserio wins.Mayfield for a 5th should've been an option for the Texans too especially for 1 year.
Mayfield for a 5th should've been an option for the Texans too especially for 1 year. I mean, what do you have to lose trading for a guy who went 7-9 on a team that won 1 game in 2 years before he got there. It seems Texans are always hustling backwards.
