I hate to see Carter as your #1 FS, and Wilson your #1 ILB. I want both with our 2nd round pick. Not looking good for me.

I like your stuff here. The only pick that jumps out at me is Dalton. I think there are a few better QB's than him for that #5 spot. Ponder, Stanzi, Enderle, McElroy.

If you are referring to my big board then yes. I have Bowers #3, Quinn #5, and Jordan #8.

I hate to see Carter as your #1 FS, and Wilson your #1 ILB. I want both with our 2nd round pick. Not looking good for me.

After watching some OU games Carter really really stood out to me. He may not necessarily get picked first, but I think he is definitely the best all around prospect there.

Wilson is a beast. He was an elite high school recruit but couldn't seem to find the right position in college. It was really probably more the Illinois coaching staff's fault than his. He really stood out as their MLB this year. He is ferocious with excellent athleticism for the position.

I like your stuff here. The only pick that jumps out at me is Dalton. I think there are a few better QB's than him for that #5 spot. Ponder, Stanzi, Enderle, McElroy.

I'm pretty good with all you other positions except WR. No way Julio Jones is #2. Barney Rubble and George Jefferson could be the only WR's in this class and Julio still wouldn't be #1. The guy is severely overrated because of his athleticism and "physical tools". He is a bad route runner and is inconsistent with his hands.

I like seeing Martez Wilson getting some love. Dude is straight up beast.

I'm not impressed with the class either. I wouldn't take any of these QBs in the first round. But I think Gabbert has a chance to be a starter in the NFL if he can sit first.

Jones is a weird one. He has the body of a #1 WR, the skills of a #1, but the hands of a backup. His hands are inconsistent at best. But he is a fierce blocker in the running game. And he is the kind of guy that can take a lick from a LB or S over the middle of the field. His athleticism alone gets him drafted high. A pro coach should be able to help him with his routes and a jug machine should help him with his hands.

On the contrary, when jones puts up those pretty measureables at the combine/pro day he might rise to be the #1 prospect @ his position or at least become equal with green...If no one else, Al Davis will make sure of that!

At the moment, all I can say is I agree with Newton as the #1 QB draft prospect.
I'm not one who likes QB who makes play with his legs,
but Newton has shown me that he's way ahead of VY and Tebow at this stage in their career.

WR- I have not seen enough of Green, but I'm sold on Julio Jones since his soph season. He can make catches anywhere on the field the way AJ does. He can bail out the QB quite the same.

OT - Solder impressed me, Sherrod did not.
Carimi lost a few pounds and looked better than I saw him the previous year; I like him.
I don't know what happened to Castonzo; he looked better in his previous two seasons.

A.J. Green is by far the superior WR prospect to Jones. Green and Patrick Peterson are far and away the two best skill players in the draft.

Yep

He certianly has the height arm and brains for the position. He's also got outstanding speed. With pro coaching to help shorten Kaepernicks release point and you've got a 1st rd talent in rd 2/3.

Actually I wouldn't mind getting him in the right round . Heck him and Locker may end up swapping spots , take Locker . If Matt gets hurt and the backup can move the chains with his legs ... so be it . It would add a new dimension to the team that who ever we're playing didn't count on .

I just finished my first mock draft. I try not to favor the Texans too much (by letting players fall to us who probably wouldn't) to keep it realistic.

Anyway, here is what I had for us.

1. Cameron Jordan - DE, California
-I know Jordan isn't gonna be a real popular pick on this board, but I have him rated real high (#2 34 DE, #8 overall) and he fits the defense perfectly. I didn't want to reach on something I could get later on in the draft, especially with an elite talent on the board. Others I considered were Aldon Smith, J.J. Watt, and Ryan Kerrigan.
2. Rahim Moore - FS, UCLA
-My #2 FS as I have Quinton Carter going at the end of the first round. Fills a big time need right at the spot in the draft where I see him going. I know Phil Taylor is one of the board's favorite players right now, but I have Moore rated a little bit higher so I grabbed him.
3. Jabaal Sheard - OLB, Pittsburgh
-Played weakside DE in a 43 at Pitt. Questionable motor but can get to the QB when he is running hot. Had 14.5 TFL, 9 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles as a senior. My #7 34 OLB.
4. Ian Williams - NT, Notre Dame
-Not a huge nose tackle, but he is my #3 NT. Not a threat to make plays but he can tie up blockers.
5. Greg Salas - WR, Hawaii
My #22 WR. Excellent production (topped 100 receptions each of the last two years) in a pass happy offense against questionable competition. Decent but not great size. Average top speed. But looks to have solid quickness and runs crisp routes. Solid option in the slot.
6. Bruce Miller - OLB, Central Florida
-My #13 34 OLB. Four year starter at UCF with 35 career sacks as a DE. Never had less than 7 in a season. Anchor of the #1 defense in C-USA. Not the most talented guy. Gets by on grit, technique, and relentless hustle. Not many sixth round picks hang around for very long. A guy with his heart at least has a shot.
7. Davonte Shannon - SS, Buffalo
-My #12 SS. Four year starter at Buffalo. Set the school record for tackles as a true freshman. Lowest season total was 96 as a junior. Went over 120 twice. 27 TFL for his career, excellent for a safety. 4 INT his senior year. Not a great athlete (if he was he wouldn't be around in the 7th), but great instincts. Excellent tackler with average ball skills and above average cover skills for a SS.

Good question. I mean Jordan is talented, but with Mario and AS we're in much worse need of help in other defensive positions besides DE.

I think there will be situations where all three can be on the field at the same time. And I also don't think there is anything wrong with having a good platoon of players on the d line.

If I'm running the draft, I do everything I can to trade back. Even if I have to sell the pick for less than it's worth. But at this spot in the draft, I could either take the one elite player left on the board or I could reach for a player at a need position.

I do think it is important to draft for need. But at the same time, I don't think that our defense is so talented that we can just turn away guys that might be potential elite players.

its kinda like an inside joke isn't it?

number one, Jabaal Sheard, would have to convert to OLB. Which you do need to find somebody and fast because you allocated the first two picks on 5 technique DE & FS, so I understand the urgency. I really prefer taking a OLB who has played the position & proved at the highest level he belongs, that is probably where you must change your first pick to Von Miller or Justin Houston, by that's just IMO.

Good defenses that draft well often have talented rookies playing a backup role for their first year or two. Ours is not that talented but at the same time I don't think the difference between being good and average or average and bad is going to be a single three down rookie. If Jordan is the player that will make the biggest impact over the course of his Texan career he should be the pick even if he doesn't start day 1. I still think chances favor us going OLB but Jordan is growing on me.

Z-Report Says: I wanted to put Aldon Smith from Missouri or Ryan Kerrigan from Purdue in this spot, but my guess is that the Texans will see the OLB position as a position that they have covered on their roster currently or as a position they can grab a little later in the draft. It is difficult to find 3-4 DEs who can rush the passer effectively and that might end up being what Jordan can bring to the table. Jordan was one of the most dominant pass rushers in Senior Bowl drills and his father, Steve Jordan, played tight end for the Minnesota Vikings and was a 6-time Pro Bowler.
