Just a few comments:

Joe Thomas at #2. Is he really that good? I mean, it makes sense to me that he might be drafted way up there, due to the needs for/importance of LT. But, it doesn't seem to me that I hear people talking about him being really great, the way I've heard other LT prospects discussed in the past. It sounds like he's a clear starter-quality, but not quite the "star" level I'd think of for the #2 prospect. I get the feeling that he has moved up the draft boards more because of where he plays than his real potential. I'd probably knock Levi Brown down a little, too.

Landry at #4 seems too high. I don't know that any safeties are really that game-changing enough to draft that high.

Russell has the potential to be a major game-changing player. He also has lots of question marks. Overall, though, I'd move him higher.

Personally, Branch seems like a bust waiting to happen. I wouldn't put him that high, but it's at least reasonable compared to lots of analyses.

I think Okoye and Carriker are too low.

So, I'd rearrange the top few (myself) more like:
Johnson
Peterson
Russell
Adams
Anderson
Thomas
Quinn
Landry
Okoye
Houston
Carriker

you base this on the lack of hype he's getting, so that doesn't mean much.

Yeah - that's mostly true. In fact, I'd have to say that "hype" is how I make a lot of my judgements (and I think most people do...) - I get most information from reading message boards and a couple of scouting reports. Only a few of the players (like Peterson and Russell) have I been able to actually watch and judge myself.

But, if Thomas is really that good, why don't we hear more hype about him? For the #2 prospect, I expect a dominant game-changer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't people criticize his run blocking - not what I'd expect from the #2 prospect?

Besides Johnson, I think Peterson and Russell have the "dominant game changer" quality. And, from what I've read (i.e. from the hype), I think Adams and Anderson are closer to that than Thomas is. I'm not saying Thomas is bad or anything (I mean, I still have him as #6), just that he doesn't seem to be that great.

All of this is moot, of course. He'll be taken top 5, and well before the Texans pick.

you are wrong, actually. thomas is excellent in the running game and pretty much everyone agrees that's his strongest ability.

you're not hearing more hype because there is no hype. everyone agrees he is going to be a franchise tackle in the NFL for many years. there's nothing ultra-exciting about him. he doesn't have that long wild robert gallery hair with tats everywhere, he doesn't have the possibility of going to new york like d'brickshaw ferguson, and he's also not being talked about around here because he really has no shot to go to houston.

however, if you actually read what the scouts say and not just looking for hype, you'll see most feel he is one of the best prospects to come out in a long time at his position.

Joe Thomas is ideal except for knee injury concerns. its simply amazing how fast he's recoverd, proving he is a very good athlete playing one of footballs most elite positions. personally I would like to see him go to a team that could give him more time to strengthen his knee & not simply insert & roll him out day one despite his capacity to start. I would try to nuture & protect him until I knew for sure he was 100% recoverd, but thats just me:twocents:

OK, I just now ran through some of the websites quickly - here are two reviews that say he's strong in pass protection, and weaker in run blocking:
http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=211&p=8&c=1&nid=2405649
http://football.about.com/od/nflplayerprofiles/p/joethomas.htm
To be fair, though, most scouting reviews don't mention that. I probably got that impression from reading one of those two websites, and it stuck with me.

What you say about the hype makes sense. So, consider me reprimanded - my #6 for him is too low.

And, sorry to hijack the thread...
