Badboy, Beerlover and rmartin65's 2012 Combo Mock

interesting post. You think KJ's problems are due to adjustment to NFL?

Yes I do

KJ is strong and can manhandle college WR's. The 5 yd chuck rule has adversely affected his game. Because he cant mask his lack of game speed.

Yes, I know he ran a 4.45 at the combine. But his game speed is much slower. Kinda like Fosters game speed is much faster than his 40 time.

I saw this presented in his defense last season, perhaps by you but here is why I am doubtful. He played "bump and run" a lot and that scenario fits your assumption. However towards end of the year and almost every play this season, he stationed himself several yards off line of scrimmage which seemingly negates what you are saying. As you know there has been tremendous criticism of KJ playing so far off the WR.

How does this fit in? Interesting discussion btw.

Here's the dilema with KJ. He was mainly a bump and run CB in college. Where the 5 yd chuck rule doesn't apply. He doesn't have the speed tp keep up with professional WR's without bumping them after the 5yd area. IMHO

So Phillips has backed him off in an attempt to mask his lack of speed. Since KJ's never really played zone in college or last yr. He spends alot of time looking lost/falling down.

Since this is all new to him there's hope he will improve. But I wouldn't be suprised if Phillips loses patcience with him. Because he's making mental mistakes that are costing the team big time and this is a yr where the coaching staff doesn't have time for OJT.

Agree 100% and have posted the same. Bump & Run coverage takes a special CB in NFL. I think KJ has good speed but it comes after he has missed a bump or been fooled by a wily vet. He then tries to "catch up" and often gets close but is out of position to impact the play. QBs love him. I thought when he was moved "off" the reciever he'd make massive strides in improvement but have not see that.

Do you think he can play safety?

Since KJ's never played S in his life I wouldn't put him as the last line of defense this yr.

After an offseason of bulking up a bit and film study and a TC of OJT if he looked like he could do it in TC, then yeah I would give him a shot.

Most S are students of the game. Have you heard about KJ's film study habits?

lol, I am trying to salvage the pick. When he was drafted as you may recall, I was negative and got savaged by some posters.

Nah, the 5yd chuck rule doesn't hurt KJ; but it would hurt Prince Amakamura (more than his injury, LOL!).

KJ never had problem with receivers downfield in college.
He never had to face guard them or put a hand on them.
He played as if the NFL rules applied.

I don't think KJ played off the LOS anymore than Joseph or Allen.
I know for a fact that in the Saints game, he actually played closer to the LOS than Joseph overall in the Saints last 3 scoring drives.

I don't know when I can start concentrating on college players, and you guys always give me a good starting point.
Thanks, guys!
