How did Phillip look in the preseason. I didn't get a chance to see much of anything, so I have no idea. Are we going to be calling him P-burnt by the end of the season?

I think we know one thing for sure about Buchanan, he is a pathetic tackler. OLE!!!!!!

Go over to Raider Nation and bring this subject up. He is widely refered to as one of the biggest draft busts for the Raiders in the past ten years. I saw him play live agains the Cowpies in the pre-season and was not impressed by much. Is he better than what you had last year with Glenn? Not even close.

This is a hard one for me. On one hand I see how he contributes special teams wise and I see the speed that keeps him from getting beat deep. However he has given up quite a few 1st downs because of how much he keeps in front of him and the receiver and he also tends to get picked on alot in the two minute drill. Sounds a bit like Aaron Glenn.

What he does for you on special teams he gives up for the opposing offense.

Overall he has been disappointing so far... way too much cushion given (even to #3 and #4 receivers who really are not a deep threat to him) to be in position to prevent an easy completion. There is a significant level difference visable between him and D'Rob so far IMO which is going to get him a lot of balls thrown his way.

I agree with the post that said Glenn looked better but I am still optimistic that the coaches will get him to pressure his man more and contest these 8-10 yard passes thrown to his side of the field more aggressively (a.k.a. D'Rob like) On the upside, the guy clearly has more speed than Glenn and more upside.

If the defense is going to attack the QB it needs good cover corners who can tackle. Buchanan to this point has done neither. I am very concerned with this position because Buchanan and Faggins have played very poorly.

He did seem to be playing soft off the line, but I didn't see him take the chances that got him that P-Burnt title in Oakland.

Who knows? The staff might have been weening him off the "big play", trying to prevent an untimely injury, or checking his tackling abilty. I doubt he plays as soft on Sunday.

DB's play the technique that the coaches call. It's not his call to be in press or in short zone or whatever. If he doesn't have a S over the top he will play back more than if the S is used in man. He can play closer to the WR if he has support...depends on the call and the technique the coaches call.

Relax, it was JUST the preseason.

Preseason games don't count.

Regular season is when it's for real.

He'll look grrrrrrrreat in the reg season.

P-Buch's ole'! tackling (like a bull missing the matador) serves one purpose: It displays what a great player Dunta Robinson has been.

If cloning were legal, I'd clone Dunta and put him at the other CB spot.

Glenn needed to go. P-Buch just needs to be humble and let Dunta teach him how to tackle and how to guage whether to go for the play or just concede the catch and stop the play for zero YAC.

I gotta disagree with you on this one. Personally I would have like to have seen Glenn stick around another year and groom another cb from the draft instead of trading a 2nd and 3rd for P-Buc. Hopefully P-Buc can start playing up to the potential that scouts saw in him coming out of college or that trade is going to be a big bust.

I think Buchanan is gonna be a good move for us. The guy was great in College and had undeniable skills. Unfortunatly he came into the pros with an overinflated ego and bad work ethic.

It looks like he has matured and I think we are gonna see him start developing into the kind of CB he could have been from day one, if he hadnt had the attitude issues.

does anybody know who the raiders got with our picks

The 2nd rounder got traded to the Jets who picked kicker Mike Nugent. The 3rd rounder was used by the Raiders to select ILB Kirk Morrison.
