Az-Zahir Hakim

pittbull

Rookie
With Hakim on the market, could this guy be a cheap pickup to add to the receiving corp. Many say his production fell off, but also, look at the offense he was in, the QB situation, new coach, and new system. He may have some gas in the tank to possibily add to the Texans. No doubt, he's gotta be better than Bradford! :hmmm:

The Lions passed up on Bradford and were going to keep Hakim until they drafted WR in the 1st round if that tells you anything...

If there's one thing I'm sure about from the offseason moves so far, they're not about to go after Hakim if there are younger, cheaper players on the roster with comparable skills. Besides, as I posted HERE last year , I just don't think the guy's that good.

Just say no to Hakim.

Bradford knows our offense and hakim knew the lions which was why he was favored over bradford.

Hakim actually has a pretty pricey deal. I don't know the exact numbers but i know he got a big deal because it was before they got any of their first round wr's. He may be worth picking up out of free agency if he is realeased but like the guy posted earlier we are looking for youth.

It had more to do with trying to put a slot WR in the #1 role. Then there was all the injuries. Not to mention the drops.

I will say though, he played well out of the slot. The problems arose when he was forced to play #1 (first year), #1 when CR went down (second year) and #1 when CR and RW were injured (third year). When he matches up against the nickels he usually did alright. But he did drop some balls also.

Where did you hear this? I thought Bradford passed on the Lions, not the other way around?

It has been rumored for awhile that he was going to be cut June 1 anyway, they were just waiting to sign another WR (Hilliard had been mentioned).

hakim is too old and too tall to play for the texans. all those years with the rockets took a toll on him and from what i hear, he's not that good of a football player. just let the man retire in peace.

Hakim is a slot guy. I think Armstrong and Gaffney are better fits and better talents. With Mathis, Starling, Sloan, AJ, and Bradford the Texans definitely don't need another receiver.

This falls squarely in the "should we pick up Joe Schmoe who was just released by the Puscaloosa prison league team" category--in short, no.

I've heard a lot of good things about Joe Schmoe. He runs a 4.5 in the 40, and before you say that's too slow for an NFL WR keep in mind he ran that 4.5 while being part of a chain-gang. He's not a flashy player, and the only jewelry he wears are "bracelets" on each wrist. He's got great hands. In 5 years in prison he's never dropped a bar of soap. I say sign him. :thumbup
