There were any number of GM's who thought the same way we did. He said it was a FOOTBALL decision. He had been thinking about it all week and was coming to the same realization.

Williams is young and still developing. Bush has already matured and may not get any better than he already is. In the NFL you have to get better.

What it reminds me of the coming out of Chang and Sampress in Tennis. When they were younger Chang was winning and they would say Sampress was the better one. How could that be, because Chang was dominating Sampress when they were young. However, when he matured you know the story. Chang had reached his peek and Sampress was still developing.

This is a young man on the rise and there are indications that his coaching was not the best in certain areas. He's not as polished as some would like, but he has the physical attributes and has demonstrated certain skills that only a few attain. I have faith in our coaching staff and I like the choices they have made so far.

I think Bush has more problems than most people think. I think he is going to be tied up is some nasty litigation before this is all over with. It is going to become very distracting. His mind is not going to be on the game of football.

The Texans have always been early signers. They don't want to deal with holdouts and Bush and/or his agent didn't believe that. The Texans were telling the truth.

Now they are trying to leverage NO and actually the agent has done it again to Bush, because he is taking away value from the NO pick. Perhaps NO will take D'brick and Bush might fall to 4th or 5th. Can you see Bush in the cold confines of Lambaugh stadium in the heart of the subartic. He could really be instore for a huge pay cut now. They got greedy, and as I have been saying, they had a lot to loose.

Be happy with what we have. We couldn't trade down and we did the best we could. It wasn't an easy or popular decision, but it was the correct one.

Word is coming out now that Mario is getting even more money than Bush was asking. :stirpot:

I think Bush wanted more, but we offered Mario more than Bush. Bush wanted the max he could get based on the collective bargining agreement.

Who? Who are these mystery GMs?

Supposedly we couldn't trade down, yet virtually the moment the decision was announced we're being told the Saint's phones were ringing off the hook with trade offers. What gives?

Maybe Bush's camp was hardnosed and thought they had the Texans over a barrel. We may never know.

It has been well known for weeks that no one wanted to pay #1 price and no one wanted to pay Bush's price. The #2 pick is far less pricey. Part of this is that NO lost who they wanted and now they have to rethink who they want at this point. Bush could fall to 5 or lower.

I can see where somebody may think the woeful Aints would be eager trade partners.

This is either going to be very good, or very bad. We've already had more than our share of bad (Babin, Buchanon) and very bad (Joppru, Boscelli) deals. AJ and DD and JM have been very good. We need Williams to be very good.

Yeah, let me take a wild guess on what GM's think Mario is the best player in this draft...Saints, Titans, Jets, 49er's.

Good choice of words...Very well said...But my only concern is still how are we going to prevent Carr from getting 68 sacks again this year?..what have we changed offensively to change this?? Like many of us on here, we believed Bush would have made a huge impact in this area..

This is (1) football and (2) Texas, please do not use a comparison to Michael Chang and Pete Sampras. The only thing I respect amongst theses to is that Sampras has a hot wife.

Mario's potential may develop like Sampras' or it may develop like Ryan Leaf's - potential is unproven. The first draft pick should be taken on the player that has the least amount of questions. If we are drafting on "what might be" why don't we take my cousin who is a sophmore in high school with the 33rd pick- he might be the next Peyton Manning, he has the strongest arm in his entire 10th grade class.

One GM is Bill Polian of the Colts. However, he was posturing to get Charlie to pass up Bush. Charlie ate it up as usual and sold it to the coaching staff and Mr. McNair. However, this was ultimately Kubiak's decision. The honeymoon is over, Gary this is a BIG risk, I hope it works out.

Casserly's legacy was already tarnished before this move. This is a bomb in the endzone with no time left on the clock. Everybody thinks Bush will be a star...If Bush becomes a bust and Mario becomes a dominating force in the league, he will look like a genius. If not, he won't be here to hear the backlashe ("you can blame me if it turns out being the wrong move"). I've never truly hated anyone and I can honestly say I hate this bastard.

The only bright spot in this whole mess is he won't be around anymore after this weekend. Its going to take at least 5 years to clean up his mess...

Just think, he still has 3 more picks to screw up today. He needs to be sent packing before the 33rd pick.

Well said IBAR. I'm very happy with the Texans taking Mario. They needed another stud DE and he has a lot of potential. I think Bush and his agent read too many newspapers about how great he is and being compared to some of the greatest RB's to ever play. Everyone is bashing CC, but McNair stated it was his decision.

I'm am absolutely stunned right now, but don't go overboard. You have to think where Gary is comming from. In his system he believes you don't have to take a back #1 ovrl. Kubiak won't be held responsible for this pick CHARLIE WILL!!! Either Mario is going to save Charlie's job or he is going to swing the ax. Mario damn well better be the next great DE in this league.
