Houston Texans defensive end Mario Williams has a hard time finding clothes that fit. At the Giorgio Armani store recently, the 6-foot-7-inch, 290-pound football star blamed his big thighs and my gluteus maximus for his inability to find on-the-rack clothing. His solution: More than 30 custom-made suits.
He insists hes not a clotheshorse. I want to look presentable at public events, he said. I wont wear a wife-beater and shorts.
Williams, in a custom-made Armani suit, and Esquire magazine hosted an evening of shopping and cocktails. Made-to-measure specialist Mario Vergani was on hand to take orders. Ten percent of sales benefited the Center for Citizen Leadership. A custom-made Armani suit starts at $3,200. One nice feature (besides a perfect fit): Each suit has the name of the owner embroidered on an inside pocket.
