Are you happy with day 1?

Go away! It's not that you are being critical about the pick, it's that you have no freakin' clue what you're talking about.

A few tidbits for you to try to absorb :

1. Bulman was not drafted in the early rounds(my point exactly.....we could have waited)2. Babin was drafted by Casserly and coached by Capers and co.
3. Barwin is the second (Mario) DE drafted on the first day by Kubiak and the first drafted by Rick Smith
4. The fact that Barwin plays DE and he's white doesn't mean that he's going to be the same failure as Babin. That is probably the dumbest argument I've ever heard.(What the...never said that. Babin was a tweener and was touted was versitle athletic player who could contribute to the pass rush....sound familiar.. We dont need a tweener not at that pick...nothing to do with race...ridiculous comment)

Why don't you talk about why Barwin won't be good and how he's like Babin? Lining up a couple random sets of circumstances and drawing a conclusion based on that is worthless information and makes you look ridiculous.

And repeating the same mistakes...what does that make you.

Please tell me what he brings that we didnt have and couldnt have waited...why was it so urgent to draft him...please.

Was it depth????? we could get depth later

Was it a pass rusher to go opposite Mario....well what does that say about Antonio Smith and Cato June.

Tim Bulman proves we could have waited....
Fred Bennett was a third rounder right? Is there another FB out there?
Is there another Slaton or a player to compliment him?
I am sorry for not drinking the Koolaid this time... I just dont see the logic in this pick.

Why compare Barwin to Babin? How about Dwight Freeney or Robert Mathis? They were both considered a "tweener".

Barwin weighs 256 lbs, runs a 4.5, and had 11 sacks in his first year as a defensive player. I'm not sure why you don't see that he could be a good pick. Tim Bulman is a try hard guy that is nice to have on the end of the roster. He's not a guy I want to rely on for a pass rush. First of all, he's a very limited athlete. Second, he's the slowest DE off the ball that I've ever seen. If you are so ignorant of the Texans' deficiencies that you don't believe they needed a pass rusher off the edge, then clearly you don't pay much attention to them.

Feels like Texans just had their lunch served to them in the 1st half (hope they can come back in the 2nd half/day). front office sitting around on their hands, can't pick up a phone or make a call? @ best close to fair value for picks taken, nothing that seperates Houston from the competition. I thought N.E. was going to take Barwin because he fits a 3-4 OLB? Here situational pass rusher, rotational TE & special teams player, thats just great. Cushing, enough said about him, I never saw him impact a game @ USC.

not just no, hell no :foottap:

What are your thoughts on day 1?

(Edit: There was supposed to be a poll.)

Choice 1: Happy with Cushing, but not Barwin
Choice 2: Happy with Barwin, but not Cushing
Choice 3: Happy with both
Choice 4: Happy with neither

Choice 3

I went and watced some saved Senior Bowl practices that had Barwin lining up at TE and running routes. The guy is extremely quick.

Day 2 should be exciting.

I am so-so with the Cushing pick just because of his injury histroy. If he stays healthy, He will probably be a great player.

I do like the Barwin pick. He has talent with a high motor and sounds like he is a smart guy.

I give the first day 4 out of 5 stars.

the texans blew it in the first round and not because he is another Babin. its because we drafted a guy with a history of injury problems and wasn't even a full time starter. that worries me and should worry any sane texans fan.

the dude looks like a ********* steroid boy that belongs more in the WWE than the NFL. just sayin. hopefully it works, but all points (and Smith's recent 1st Round selections) to it being an epic fail.

Oher would have been the smart pick and would have allowed us more flexibility in case Brown continues to look less than adequate at LT. Unger would have been a better pick as well because he would have fit a position of utmost need, Center.

but at the end of the day, what we think doesn't matter. if these picks don't work out and Okoye and Brown continue to look like projects rahter than quality starters, Smith and/or Kubiak will be unemployed and we'll bring in some other system that we will have to rework our entire roster to fit into. Lets hope these guys are successful and prove me wrong because I am sick of losing.

If they can find a way to get Miller out of Texas and Coffee out of Alabama, I will be happier and maybe this draft can be salvaged. Expect Cushing to be out during training camp with an injury.

Love the Barwin pick though because he seems like the type that will use his athleticism and length to get past the opposition's OL. I love the fact that he played on the Bearkats basketball team and is so good of an athlete that he was moved to DE by his coaching staff....and it worked out wonderfully.

I like the 2 picks- Cush & CB! I just think this team is too "mild" & that we needed someone with a mean streak who loves to HIT!!!! Barwin, I think could become a steal - the guy is big & fast, & I don't know why some posters here thinks he's the second coming of Babin! First, the Texans did their homework in evaluating him & Cush! Unlike stupid, arrogant Casserely who probably didn't evaluate Babs well & gave up a bunch of draft picks, as if the team was one player away from contending! Man, I glad he's gone!:cowboy1:

Initially, I hated Cushing. That might be my hatred for USC though, so I am trying to be objective. I am ok with it, kinda lukewarm. And as I have said before, Barwin will be a great player. By year 3 he will post double digit sacks.

7.8/10
C+

I am ecstatic with day 1. That's pretty much the best they could've hoped for with no trades and the way the board fell.

I think it was Vinny who said that there was no difference between 15 and 35 but I disagree. There was no difference between 15 and 46 imo because I think Barwin is gonna be just as good a player as Cushing if not better!!!

And that's not an indictment of Cushing, I think he fits our SAM like a glove for the next 10 years, that's just how happy I am that we got the steal of the draft with our 46.

We solved the biggest weakness on the team (pressuring the QB, get Mario help) this offseason and we haven't even used our 3rd round pick yet!!!

I'm good with it.

1. We addressed an obvious need for an upgrade at Sam LB. I actually liked Laurinitis better but he probably would have needed work to move to Sam. Thought about Rey M. but when they showed his clips, he couldn't cover.
2. We picked up some one to spell Mario at end and who may be an upgrade over Bulman. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a special teams star.

I'm not about to make myself crazy over this. The '06 draft taught me never again to get too emotional at this stage of the game.

I'm okay with Cushing, I felt the same when Daniels was picked. I'm really looking forward to seeing Barwin, though. He can be special :fans:

Bulman is a beast..he made plays and disrupted the back field then more than our ahem.....prodigy Amobi.(14 sacks Amobi...make a tackle)

Bulman needs more time on the field and I feel that Barwin can at best be another Bulman..not worth 2nd round pick.
