Anyone with Insider?

Does anyone have ESPN Insider?

There is an article by Chris Mortensen on the main page called something like Vince Can't Shake Doubters. I read the preview and it sounds like it has criticisms from NFL scouts or front office members who critique the games of Young and Leinart.

This could offer some insight in what people who actually know what they are doing think about him rather than blind faith Longhorn fans.

Thanks.

First let me thank the person for sending me a copy of the article.

Basically what the article said was that scouts really like that Vince is a tough competitor and a leader but that people shouldn't get overly excited about his athleticism because he is not nearly as fast or as sudden as Michael Vick and that he will eventually slow down after the beating he takes. They also have questions about his passing abilities. They do like that he has improved a lot since last year, but say that people should remember that USC does not have a good defense and that Fresno State put up 40 on them. His arm strength is marginal and won't have the same success running the ball in the NFL.

Leinart is a smart guy, doesn't have great arm strength, doesn't throw a great spiral, but has experience running a pro offense and will be successful if he is surrounded by a lot of talent. He won't carry a team by himself in the NFL.

Reggie is still a great player and will most likely go to Houston with the #1 pick.

Oh yeah, LenDale White is a monster and scouts love him.

I have a feeling that when the Texans make the decision to keep Carr, they are going to be leaking criticisms of Vince's game big time.

and leaking thousands of season tickets if they pass on Vince. Passing on DJ for Travis Johnson was bad, but it would pale in comparison.

and then new people would buy those season tickets

Yes, because the people with those credentials are always right.

I mean they were dead-on-balls accurate about their evalutions of Ryan Leaf, Cade McNown, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Tim Couch, Jeff George, Jim Drukenmiller, Heath Shuler, Rick Mirer, David Klingler, Andre Ware, Dan McGwire, Todd Marinovich.

Wow, do I really need to go on? And those are just some the QBs that these "experts" said were 1st round worthy. I didn't even touch the other positions that bombed.

Point being, Vince may or may not pan out to be a great NFL player. But you'll have to forgive me if I don't bow to the greatness that is the NFL scout.

Not really. There are still just as many pro-Bush fans and when you add in the "trade the pick" fans, there will not be the same uproar over not taking VY...if he comes out.

I'm not saying that scouts are always right because if they were then Tom Brady would have been higher than a 6th round pick, but at least this article offers a view of the other side of Vince and not the just the idea that Vince is able to walk on water and will be a hall of famer after his first season.

Whether you like it or not, there are some serious questions about Vince Young. If he is able to fix those problems is another story. He might be able to and become a great player, but he might not be able to soon enough.

There are questions surrounding every player that comes out of college. Vince is no different in that aspect.

Can he make the throws that will be required? Who knows until we find out? He's been able to make them in college which is where every other QB that was drafted made their throws before proving they could do it in the NFL.

So what are these serious questions that only apply to Vince?

Huge, thank you, having said that Tulexan is a 100% Bush lover. He gets all caught up in the perspectives of NFL and College scouts and refuses to watch or read up on any of his points. Vince Young has holes, yes, but Reggie Bush also has a few. Reggie has scouts questioning his durability and whether he can get inbetween the tackles and escapeor at least not get drove.

Tulexan, last time i checked Vince Young is projected to go no.1, Matt leinart #2, and your boy Bush #3. Mel Kiper ESPN - NFL Scout "pound it"

I don't have a problem with anybody that wants Bush. It'd make a lot of sense. And I'm not completely in favor of the team taking Vince. I'd just like to see arguments that make sense.

I thought White looked more NFL-type back than Reggie Bush, to be honest with you. Granted, I've only watched a few USC games this year, but the guy is a bruiser and has no problem running between the tackles. He seems more geared towards the NFL than Bush, IMO. But I'm just a fan, so what do I know.
