Tony Dungy vs. Bill O'Brien
In six seasons with Tampa Bay, Tony Dungy posted a 54-42 regular season record, and 2-4 playoff record (in 4 playoff appearances).
In six seasons with Houston, Bill O'Brien has posted a 52-44 regular season record, and a 2-4 playoff record (in 4 playoff appearances).
Amazingly close records!
Now, Dungy is a good coach, HoF inducted in 2016, but he had to go to another team to win a Super Bowl.
O'Brien might arguably be a good head coach (i.e. results-driven business), but he's reached his ceiling with the Texans.
A bold owner would recognize this and find a new HC that could take the existing talent over the hump and at least to a conference championship game.
Unfortunately, Cal is not a bold man in any sort of way, and certainly not a bold owner. He's status quo. And I'm not even sure he could identify a good HC.
Malcolm Glazer is a self-made man. Cal is. . .the son of a self-made man.
