Any Carr contract news?

TEXANRED

Texan-American
Speaking of which, anyone hear if the Texans are even talking to Carr about his contract? I keep hearing that kubiak likes Carr and some are saying that he is the man but has anyone officially heard?

Casserly has indicated on 610 that the two sides have come to an agreement, and that we'll hear if it's a two or three year extension after February 1st.

So if they sign Carr, wouldnt you say that our only two options would be draft Bush or trade down. If you were the Texans would you sign Carr to his
extension just to turn around and draft Young? If you were Carr wouldnt you want some sort of reassurance(we really need a spell checker added to the board!) that you were going to be the starter and not about to draft your replacement?

Things to ponder.:hmmm:

I read somewhere that there is already an agreement in place between the organization and Carr which would be announced at a later time.....I'll see if I can dig up where I read that.

The Casserlyl interview I heard was worded by Charlie as a decision has been made by the Texans and David has been informed (in contrast to, they sat around the table and discussed it and came to some kind of agreement) but it will not be announced at this time.

Actually, you are correct. I don't know why I initially worded it the way I did.

IT's been pretty quiet on the Carr front. I was thinking that coaches do like to take their QB's with them when they leave. Is that how the Carr to Miami rumor started? Because maybe Capers asked Carr to come to Miami or vice versa?

Alright capologists out there. If we don't give him his bonus how much in real money are we saving on the cap? Also, if we do draft Young how many players will we be able to complement him with if we don't give Carr the bonus?

There's only two scenarios where he doesn't get either the two year or three year option plus the associated bonus.

1 is if they transition tag or franchise him - a one year deal that's an indicator that a trade is in the works. Immediate cap hit of around 7 or 8 million that goes away when the trade is made.

2 is if they decide to let him go free agency - which won't happen. And that would save whatever his '06 cap hit would be -- up to 8 million if you're calculating 'savings' based on the three year deal. (savings in quotes because you would have to replace him with another QB which offset some of that virtual savings away). Option 2 ain't happenin.

It will either be a two or three year option, OR franchise or transition tag.

I think the Texans should trade down, and hopefully do a better job in the draft.
