Antonio Brown traded to Raiders

He went from zero guaranteed to what 33M guaranteed. He has rings doesn't he. Dude wanted to be paid and is the man again in Oakland. And we will see how JuJu does without him. I do like juju

IMO, the Raiders got him fairly cheap. Only a 3rd and a 5th. Yes they are paying him, but they gave up dang little draft capital to get him.

It's still confusing as to what direction the Raiders are taking. First they clear cap room by trading one of the premier pass rushers in his prime. Then deal a young former top 5 pick at WR so they don't have to pay him. Then turn around and trade for an aging WR with the biggest AAV in the game. I'm not suggesting Brown won't make the Raiders better in the near term.. He will. But keeping Mack and Cooper would have also made them better in the near term. What exactly is Gruden going for here? Or is the owner making these calls?

Teams are going to be a lot more cautious about the character of players they front load contracts with after this. This is not good for the players in the long run. Fool me once

Yep. Lol at all of the media that keeps saying this showed that players are taking back the power. Please. The same franchise just let Bell sit for an entire season. This will make franchises more careful in my eyes and rightfully so. WR's like Brown are never worth it in the long run once they get to the levels of foolishness he has off the field.

I think he's going for quick star power for big plays and to get Vegas fans excited for the next season. Get those box seats ordered and make the Raiders a conversation piece. Let AB do that for a few seasons while they develop the young players on the franchise I guess. Other than that, it doesn't make much sense. They don't have a QB that they're set with so its generally pretty foolish to pay top dollars to a WR if the QB situation isn't set. I think it was a move for flare and glamor to make them relevant in the short term. The plus side of it for them was that they paid nothing for that type of talent.

But cap space, which they have plenty of. Enough to go after Bell, too. Just an odd way to build a team. I don't know the situation in Vegas. Are they having issues selling tickets and suites? That would surprise me.

Well putting Brown and Bell together right away is one way to improve an offense tremendously especially if you still have Carr who most feel could possibly put together a nice season with the right weapons and sustained health. Maybe Gruden is thinking this is his final look to see if he needs to move on from Carr or not. Or maybe he gets a rookie, who knows. I agree that its strange. That's why I think its more for flare and relevancy in the short term.

Time will tell if they did right paying and trading the WRs they did. Whoever made the calls did good to get a first for Cooper and then only spend a 3rd and 5th for Brown. Brown is still one of the best at 30. Long term Cooper has more upside because of youth, but time will tell if he will deliver on talent.

They soaked up some cap space with another brown

Raiders agree to record deal with OT Trent Brown 9 minutes into 'tampering period'

It’s a good thing we have a “legal tampering period” in NFL free agency. That prevents teams from ever talking to potential free agents about contracts before that period begins. The Oakland Raiders are just really fast at negotiating deals. They agreed to a four-year, $66 million deal with $36.75 million guaranteed, the largest contract ever for an offensive lineman, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter tweeted that news at 12:09 Eastern time. The tampering period started at 12 p.m. The Raiders, who somehow were rumored to be interested in Brown for a while but wouldn’t dream of tampering before it was allowed, negotiated a $66 million deal in nine minutes apparently.

Given that it had to take some time to text Schefter, and for him to then tweet the news with the exact figures, the Raiders had to have actually negotiated that deal with the former Patriots tackle in less than nine minutes. What an impressive feat.
