They will still be dangerous with their oline - especially at the oilcan.
I remember well how Marlon Mack ran all over us behind it last time we met late last season.

I guess he just wasn't mentally tough enough.

I am for one think you can’t judge an athlete like this and say they are not “mentally tough enough.” He has the rest of his life to live.

A lacerated kidney, injured ribs, at least one concussion, torn cartilage in his throwing shoulder and, most recently, a calf and ankle injury. He had been playing behind an offensive line that has been worse than the Texans. Not to mention the dangers of CTE.

Yea - not tough enough.

Not really. He spent his high school years here. Much of his youth before that was spent in Europe where his dad was an executive for the World League of American Football.
His grandparents on his mom's side are here. Spent plenty of summers in Houston. His dad moved the family back to Houston in 2001 to become head of Houston Sports Authority. So Luck spent his middle school years here, as well. Houston was as much a home to Luck as anywhere, but I would guess he's heading to Czechia, where his wife is from.

I can see it all now. Andrew Luck comes back to Houston to become Head Something Or The Other of the Houston Roughneck franchise. He becomes so popular, the Texans hire him and he becomes GM someday. The Texans kick ass and finally make it to the AFC Championship under Andrew Luck only to lose that game to the Colts, whose head coach by then is O'Brien.

Who are the Houston Roughnecks?

new XFL team in houston

Finally someone had some creative common sense for Houston.

I swear I've been saying for at least ten years now that the Texans should totally scrap their team name, logo, and colors and start all over from scratch.

The Roughnecks is a fitting name which is even better than the Oilers was. Roughnecks are what they call the oilfield workers. Such a perfect name for any Texas football team.

You can seem them in all their minor league glory next spring at U of H's stadium. Which is actually a pretty nice college stadium.

Man, I say we scrap the whole lame ass Texans theme and roll with the Roughnecks. I like that logo as well other than the colors. Why would they use the same bullshit color scheme the Texans already have?

I'm sure the XFL's marketing guys were on this a while back. Put an oil derrick on a helmet, call them Roughnecks (kinda sorta maybe like the Oilers) and use the Texans colors.

Profit in their eyes. We'll see if Houston actually monetarily supports the team or just intends on catching them on TV.

Please refresh my memory. Back when the Gamblers played, IIRC, didn't last long, but did they have a good fan base? I recall that I really liked Jim Kelly, but I didn't go to any games and don't recall where they played or the average game attendance.

I had season tickets to the Gamblers, and most of the time the Astrodome looked like it was about a 1/3 to half full. So people did bother themselves to show up, and because the crowd size was smaller, it was more enjoyable (to me) than going to a crowded Oilers game.

People always get all turnt up about alternative football leagues. A natural and fun curiosity for an established product they already really like.

Then after about the length of a cup of coffee everyone forgets to give a sh*t because it's not the nfl or ncaa.

Just is what it is.

I am going to buy the stuff before it goes the way of Houston 1836 gear.

Easier to support them then the stuff on Kirby.

I agree, "Roughnecks" was actually one of the names that were in the running. I remember it being that, the Wildcats, Stallions and Texans. I think McNair had narrowed it down to the Stallions and Texans. McNair wasn't an oil guy so he had no intention of going with Roughnecks and I also remember people saying that opposing fans would be calling them "Rednecks".

That logo is cool though. I think the star on top of the derrick is inspired by the San Jacinto Monument, which is very cool since La Porte is my old stomping grounds.

I think at the time Roughnecks was to similar to Oilers and the ownership wanted a new "brand".

Yep, they did all they could to distance themselves from the Oilers and NFL history of Houston. That’s one reason why they never replaced the Oilers for me personally.

The Oilers, NOT the Titans in any shape or form, will always remain special to me. I lived and watched through the days of Pastorini, Earl Campbell and Warren Moon. And Dr. Doom. Double ought Burroughs. I loved those guys.

If any of you are thinking this opens the door for another division title, slow your roll.

Just saw on NFLN ticker that The Brock visited the Colts this morning.
